New BMW 1-Series Is FWD And Looks Just Like The X2

Image
The all-new BMW 1-Series has just been revealed as the first 1-Series to be front-wheel drive in 15 years. The German car manufacturer has overhauled the exterior and interior designs of the new 1-Series for its third generation and it shares a striking resemblance to the larger BMW X2. Up front, there is an enlarged kidney grille and a pair of sharp headlights placed diagonally on the fascia. The rear incorporates a set of sleek LED taillights and in range-topping M135i guise (pictured in blue), includes a subtle diffuser and twin tailpipes. BMW says that the new design and shape of the 1-Series has allowed it to significantly boost interior space. Rear passengers now enjoy an extra 19 mm of headroom, 33 mm of additional legroom, and 13 mm of elbowroom. Additionally, the new car features 380 liters of cargo space, 20 liters more than the outgoing model. Rear cargo space increases to 1200 liters with the rear bench seat folded down. The new 1-Series will be available with a...

Although BMW officially announced its  new 1-Series Sedan back in July  when they released a single picture of the car, they’ve mostly kept us in the dark about their new compact saloon that will be made for, and sold exclusively, in China. But China, being China, new photos and information about the 2017 BMW 1-Series Sedan have already trickled out on the internet ahead of a reported world premiere at the 2016 Guangzhou auto show in November and before it goes on sale in the first quarter of 2017.  These images, courtesy of China’s  Autohome , provide a first look at the 1-Series saloon’s rear end, which may give some of you  a US-market VW Jetta /Passat vibe, along with the exterior differences between the various trims.  They also tell us that BMW’s Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA rival will be available in China in at least three model flavors, including the 118i said to be powered by a 1.5-liter turbo’d gasoline 3-cylinder producing 136 horses, the 12...

BMW's 1-Series Sedan Is Here And It's only for China

Image
Making the transition from the  Compact Sedan Concept  to the BMW 1-Series Sedan, Bavaria's smallest four-door model is finally here.  Designed, developed and built solely in the  People's Republic  by the brand's local joint venture, BMW Brilliance Automotive, the vehicle has mostly remained faithful to the study, design-wise, carrying a more toned-down look in the front, larger side mirrors and wheels that are more suitable for real-world driving.  Despite becoming official, the  BMW 1-Series Sedan  is not ready to reveal all of its secrets just yet, though word on the street has it that it rides on the UKL1 platform, the same one that underpins the  2-Series Active Tourer and Gran Tourer  and the  latest-gen X1 . This means that front-wheel drive is standard and the xDrive all-wheel drive is probably part of the options list. Also, we should expect to see the usual crop of 3- and 4-cylinder turbo'd diesel and petrol mills ...
