New Citroen C5 X Is A Comfort-Focused Flagship That Walks Between Wagons And SUVs

Image
This is the all-new Citroen C5 X, the new flagship model from the French carmaker described as a blend of a saloon, estate, and SUV. The new Citroen C5 X draws heavy inspiration from the 2016 CXperience concept for its design, adopting a wagon-like bodywork with a sloping fastback-like roofline towards the rear end, and is also the first model to feature Citroen’s new ‘Advanced Comfort’ active suspension system that promises a ‘magic carpet’ ride quality. Both ends of the new C5 X feature Citroen’s latest V-shaped LED lights, a design cue that was first seen in the latest C4, while the body is distinguished by the high waistline, the long bonnet, and the fluid lines in general. The new Citroen C5 X measures 4,805 mm long, 1,865 mm wide, and 1,485 mm tall, which gives it a size similar to that of a VW Passat Variant, or Estate. The wheelbase is quite long, measuring 2,785 mm, ensuring outstanding legroom for the rear passengers according to Citroen. Citroen’s new flagship model will bec...

Citroen’s New Electric 19_19 Concept Has A 500 Mile Range And 30-inch Rims

Image
Citroen’s newest concept car is called 19_19 and it was designed to express the French automaker’s vision for “ultra-comfort” and extended mobility. On display at VivaTech in Paris on May 16, the 19_19 Concept will look to entice the crowd with its all-electric range of 800 km (497 miles), suspended cabin technology (Progressive Hydraulic Cushion suspension, combined with smart active control), and autonomous driving features. Citroen went as far as to call this concept “a true UFO in the automotive sector,” which is perhaps somewhat appropriate since it was inspired by the worlds of aviation and interior design, and has an overall streamlined exterior design. In fact, the French automaker claims that this concept’s body resembles the fuselage of an aircraft, while the canopy-like upper part (also called the capsule) is like the “transparent bubble of a helicopter.” Then there’s the road stance, which is quite powerful thanks to the “super tall and narrow” wheels and the ve...

Citroen Ami One Concept Is Like A 2CV From The Future

Image
Imagine yourself navigating the crowded streets of Paris in the near future behind the wheel of something very similar to this Ami One concept by Citroen. It’s part of the French automaker’s vision for the future of urban mobility and while it doesn’t look particularly elegant, it’s definitely quirky, which suits the double chevron brand just fine. It’s also environmentally-friendly, which suits just about everyone else. Smart PourDeux? Pretty much. But that’s only because Smart did it first, and it’s hard not to mention them whenever we come across any similar or even remotely similar product. The Ami One measures 2.5 meters (98 inches) in length, 1.5 meters (59 inches) in width, and stands 1.5 meters (59 inches) tall. It also weighs just 425 kg (937 lbs). Compared to a brand new Smart ForTwo, the Citroen is definitely smaller. However, it has just about identical dimensions to the first-generation ForTwo, which came out more than two decades ago. Enough comparisons t...

DS3 Crossback Goes Official With Petrol, Diesel And EV Powertrains

Image
DS has officially unveiled the all-new DS3 Crossback. Featuring “distinctive sculptural styling,” the crossover has a prominent grille which is flanked by DS Matrix LED Vision headlights and vertical LED daytime running lights. The Crossback also has plastic body cladding, a relatively flat roof and a controversial ‘wave’ accent near the B-pillar. While the styling won’t win everyone over, the model has flush-mounted door handles which are similar to the ones used on the Range Rover Velar. They automatically deploy when the crossover is unlocked and then retract when the vehicle is locked. Moving into the cabin, drivers will find a digital instrument cluster, a head-up display and a 10.3-inch infotainment system. Other highlights include a flat-bottomed steering wheel, diamond-shaped air vents and a 12-speaker Focal audio system. DS didn’t say much else about the interior, but the boot holds 12.4 cubic feet (352 liters) of luggage and the company paid particular att...

New DS3 Crossback Teased Ahead Of Thursday Unveiling

Image
DS Automobiles will reveal its latest product this Thursday, on September 13, at the DS Design Studio in Paris. The event will be streamed over the web, and one teaser image released on social media appears to shed some light on the case. The French upmarket brand will most likely reveal the DS3 Crossback, their smallest crossover to date, which according to a set of leaked patent images, looks pretty much like a smaller DS7 Crossback. In these patent images, the DS3 Crossback’s design is very much DS-ish, with lots of curves and trademark detailing, creating a small SUV that looks ready to take on the Mini Countryman and Audi Q2. DS’ designers have went for a very funky cabin too, featuring diamond-shaped details. Elsewhere, the interior of the new crossover will feature a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel and floating-style infotainment system, at a first glance. Beneath the skin lies the CMP architecture that will underpin the next generation Peugeot 208. It all...

Refreshed Citroen C4 Cactus Gains Hydraulic Suspension For A Smoother Ride

Image
Citroen has pulled the wraps of their facelifted C4 Cactus, which becomes the first European model to offer the company’s new Progressive Hydraulic Cushion (PHC) suspension. The system debuted with the C5 Aircross and aims to give the more affordable C4 Cactus a buttery smooth and comfortable ride through a set of secondary hydraulic dampers in each corner which replace the conventional bumpstops at both ends. Citroen has opted for a more comfortable set of the regular springs and dampers in order to further cushion the ride quality. The French company has also redesigned the seats which are now filled with high-density foam for even more comfort over longer drives. Part of the update is of course the new exterior look of the C4 Cactus, which continues to feature the signature Airbumps, only now they’re mounted just above the sills and are smaller in size. Other changes include new bumpers front and back along with physically larger lights all around, making the ...

Citroen Reveals Funky New C3 Aircross Small Crossover

Image
Citroen has officially revealed the new C3 Aircross, the French answer to compact crossovers like the Nissan Juke. The new C3 Aircross is also the successor to the C3 Picasso, with Citroen ditching the MPV style of the old model in order to attract a younger audience and that is portrayed also on the design of the new model. Citroen will offer 90 exterior combinations and five interior design schemes to match its fresh design and let customers customize their vehicles to their personal taste. Despite being a sister car to the Opel Crossland X and the upcoming Peugeot 2008, the new Citroen C3 Aircross looks to have its own unique personality both inside and out, with the interior featuring a user-friendly horizontal design approach. The new 4.15m-long C3 Aircross claims to offer class-leading space and modularity in its cabin, featuring a sliding bench in two independent parts and a flat-folding front passenger seat for a load length of 2.40m. Boot volume is rated from 410lt ...
