Aston Martin’s Limited V12 Speedster Wants To Blow You Away With Its 690 HP

Image
Aston Martin is presenting the new V12 Speedster, a screen-less bespoke supercar designed to be an “uncompromising, visceral two-seater” for a few lucky customers. The new Aston Martin V12 Speedster draws inspiration from the company’s rich racing history and will be produced by the company’s Q division in just 88 examples, each priced at £765,000 ($1 million). Power comes from a twin-turbo 5.2-liter V12 engine, which is tuned to produce 690 HP (700 PS) and 555 lb-ft (752 Nm) of torque. That’s enough firepower to send the new Aston Martin V12 Speedster from naught to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.5 seconds before hitting a limited top speed of 186 mph (300 km/h). We’re guessing that you might want to use a proper helmet before going out and explore the new V12 Speedster’s potential. Underpinning the wild carbon-fiber bodywork is a bespoke aluminum platform that mixes parts from the DBS Superleggera and Vantage. The new Aston Martin V12 Speedster rides on adaptive dampers with...

Aston Martin V12 Speedster Teased, Production Capped At 88 Units Worldwide

Image
Not willing to let McLaren and Ferrari have all of the fun, Aston Martin has just announced a limited-edition Speedster of its own, aptly dubbed the ‘V12 Speedster.’ The car, teased through a single sketch, has been created by the British brand’s in-house bespoke service Q by Aston Martin and features a design reminiscent of the 1959 Le Mans-winning DBR1 and the CC100 Speedster Concept from 2013. Powering the Aston Martin V12 Speedster will be the company’s flagship 5.2-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine that will produce “around” 690 hp and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. Interestingly, both of those figures are less than what the DBS Superleggera pumps out. The V12 Speedster will be rear-wheel drive and feature a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. While the limited-edition model, capped at just 88 units globally, won’t be the fastest or most powerful Aston Martin available, the lack of a roof will mean owners get to enjoy the twin-turbocharged V12 engine in all its glory. ...

New McLaren Elva Is An Extreme Roofless Hypercar With No Windshield And A Twin-Turbo V8

Image
This is the new McLaren Elva, the brand’s Ultimate Series roadster and the first open-cockpit road car that came out of Woking, as well as the lightest. Power comes from a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that here produces 804 HP (815 PS) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque and is paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.McLaren claims that the new Elva is capable of a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in less than 3 seconds, while 0-124 mph (200 km/h) takes just 6.7 seconds, making it faster than the Senna. McLaren created the Elva to celebrate the classic M1A, M1B and M1C sports cars of the 1960s, which were ‘customer’ versions of the brand’s Group 7 race cars. Production of the McLaren Elva will be limited at 399 examples, with each one priced from $1,690,000. The new McLaren Elva is the first to feature Active Air Management System (AAMS). The system sends air through the nose of the speedster to come out of the front clamshell at high velocity ahead of the occupants and then ...

BMW Makes i8 Roadster A Speedster For Formula E’s New Safety Car

Image
BMW revealed the new safety car for Formula E, a specially modified i8 Roadster, on the eve of the Monaco E-Prix. The new safety car has been modified extensively and specifically for use on the race track, with its design based on the i8 Coupe Safety Car. The biggest visual highlights of Formula E’s newest safety car are the shortened windscreen and the new rear wing; moreover, the new BMW i8 Roadster is the world’s first safety car that can be used with an open cockpit. Compared to the standard production model, the i8 Roadster safety car sits 15mm lower to the ground, wears a FIA-approved roll bar, a new front splitter and of course the mandatory light bar, which is mounted above the rear wing for better visibility. Other modifications include the addition of communication and GPS antennas, a rear view camera and more. No changes were announced in the plug-in hybrid powertrain, which utilizes a 228hp 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with a 141hp electric motor for ...

2019 Porsche 911 Speedster Is Just Like A GT3 But With Looks To Die For

Image
The 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster has just been introduced at the ongoing New York Auto Show after the vehicle was shown off in concept guise late last year. Sitting at the heart of the new Porsche 911 Speedster is a naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine which delivers 502 hp and 346 lb-ft (469 Nm) of torque while revving to an extraordinary 9000 rpm. This engine is the same basic unit fitted in both the current 911 GT3 and 911 GT3 RS and incorporates individual throttle bodies just like the 911 GT3 R race car. The 911 Speedster will be sold exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission which sends power through the rear wheels. The sprint from 0-60 mph (96 km/h) will be dealt with in just 3.8 seconds and the German sports car can power through to a 192 mph (309 km/h) top speed. Lister’s Upcoming Knobbly Concept Revealed

Image
Lister has been on a roll as of late, unveiling potent variants of the Jaguar F-Type and F-Pace and allegedly mulling over a 1000+ HP, 250 mph hypercar. However, the British outfit also has something else up its sleeve. Lister co-owner and chief executive Lawrence Whittaker recently took to Twitter and shared an image of the ‘new Lister Knobbly concept’ that’s currently in development. The image may only show the vehicle from the side, but as side profiles go, it is among the very best. The sports car has two tiny doors and immediately reminds us of the Ferrari Monza Speedsters. The front half of the concept is dominated by curvaceous wheel arches that sit well above the hood and are sure to create a menacing stance when viewed from the front. Also visible in this image are circular headlights, large rear wheel arches, and a set of lovely buttresses. Lister’s original Knobbly was revived a few years ago when the company started building continuation models of the race car. Lik...

Porsche Is Putting The New 911 Speedster Into Production

Image
Sleeker than the 911 Cabriolet and more potent than the 718 Boxster, the 911 Speedster follows in a grand tradition of chopped-down, open-cockpit Elfens. The manufacturer first showcased the new concept with a throwback livery at its Zuffenhausen home in Stuttgart this past June, before taking it on tour around the world. And to coincide with its production announcement, Porsche is showcasing it again – this time in Guards Red – at the Paris show. The crimson paintjob is drawn from the 1988 original, as the car also features 21-inch cross-spoke alloys and a black leather interior. Otherwise it looks pretty much like the one we already saw, right down to the chopped windscreen and double-bubble rear cowling – which is no bad thing, considering how striking it is. The finished product will be produced by Porsche Exclusive in a limited run of 1,948 examples, referring to the year in which the company was founded. It’ll feature a lightweight tonneau cover with Tenax butto...

Infiniti’s Prototype 10 Is A Futuristic Speedster Inspired By Electrified Performance

Image
Monterey Car Week is underway and Infiniti has used the event to unveil the Prototype 10. Designed to capture the “spirit of early speedsters,” the Prototype 10 is a stylish concept that is being billed as a “physical manifestation of Infiniti’s creative and ambitious plans for electrified performance.” Unlike last year’s retro-inspired Prototype 9, the Prototype 10 is a modern speedster which features an aerodynamic front fascia and thin headlights. The latter components reside above angled air intakes and a contrasting black chin spoiler. The concept’s profile reveals a long body, short overhangs and an open cockpit. The model also has a small windscreen and a triangular fin mounted behind the driver’s seat. This element is echoed in reverse on what would traditionally be the passenger’s side. Out back, there isn’t much to report as the concept has a rounded rear fascia which is only broken up by a trapezoidal element. The only other notable feature is Infiniti lette...

Porsche 911 Speedster Concept Makes Surprise Debut At Company’s 70th Anniversary

Image
Porsche is celebrating its 70th anniversary and the company gave itself one heck of a birthday present – the 911 Speedster concept. Designed to capture the brand’s “essence,” the 911 Speedster concept is a one-off model that “offers a glimpse of a potential series-production version.” That’s a bit disingenuous, as we’ve already seen spy photos of the production model, but Porsche suggested the road-going car won’t be unveiled until 2019. Getting back to the concept itself, Porsche says the model features a shorter and more rakish windscreen which is reminiscent of the 356 1500 Speedster. The concept also has a carbon fiber rear cover featuring a double bubble design that hides the roll-over protection structure. The humps are connected by a floating third brake light which illuminates “Porsche” lettering. Besides the unique rear end, the Speedster features a lightweight tonneau cover instead of a traditional convertible roof. Designers also installed a carbon fiber co...

Porsche 911 Speedster Spied Ahead Of A Possible Debut At Goodwood Festival Of Speed

Image
Rumors about a Porsche 911 Speedster have been swirling around for months and now spy photographers have finally caught the model undergoing testing. Designed as a last hurrah for the current-generation sports car, the 911 Speedster is apparently based on the 911 GT3. While much of the design carries over, the Speedster has a unique hood and eschews the GT3’s massive rear wing. The styling changes don’t stop there as the model will adopt a unique soft top and rear deck lid. Porsche attempted to hide the changes by disguising the model as a traditional Cabrio but we can see the soft top is significantly smaller than what the company wants us to believe. The rear deck also appears to be sportier than the one used on the last 911 Speedster which arrived in 2010. If the GT3’s powertrain carries over, we can expect the model will have a naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 500 hp (372 kW) and 339 lb-ft (459 Nm) of torque. It enables the model to accele...

Stärke will accept any Boxster built between 1998 and 2012 and immediately sets about stripping the sports car down to its shell.
