Following last week’s major leak, Citroen has officially released the first batch of photos and information around its new C5 Aircross, set to debut at the Shanghai Auto Show. Inspired by the 2015 Aircross concept, the new C5 Aircross represents an important milestone in Citroen’s market strategy, being the first model to come with the company’s new innovative suspension that features “Progressive Hydraulic Cushions”. According to Citroen, the new suspension ensures a “uniquely smooth and comfortable ride that is typically Citroën” as it replaces the conventional dampers, springs and mechanical bump-stops with two hydraulic stops to each suspension unit – one for rebound and one for compression. The French company also claims that the new C5 Aircross offers class-leading space for all occupants, thanks to one of the longest wheelbases (2,730mm) in the segment and the non-intrusive dashboard. Just when we thought that the C5 won't make a comeback anytime soon, as it will be replaced by an SUV that adds the Aircross suffix, Citroen are getting ready to give the Chinese customers a new model. Created especially for the Chinese market, the brand's take on the family sedan segment will celebrate its world premiere next week, during the Shanghai Auto Show. Normally, the official announcement would have been accompanied by a teaser image, but Citroen have yet to provide one. Instead, they're saying that the new model features an "elegant and prestigious styling outside and inside, with an emphasis on modernity and comfort". While Citroen continues to drop new teasers of the C5 Aircross, the brand's latest SUV has leaked in all of its glory. Published by AutoHome and AutoWeek, these images portray the final production version of the vehicle, which was inspired by the Aircross Concept, though has a more toned-down look. Citroen have yet to detail the exact specifics of the car, but the Chinese media reports what was already on everyone's mind, which is that it uses the PSA EMP 2 platform, shared with the new Peugeot 3008, known as the 4008 locally. The architecture however isn’t the only thing that's being shared by the two vehicles, as almost the entire engine lineup is expected to be adopted by the new C5 Aircross. This includes the turbocharged 1.6-liter and 1.8-liter units, producing 167hp and 204hp locally, both married to a 6-speed auto gearbox, which power the Peugeot 4008 in China. Citroen's Aircross Concept has been given the tick of approval for production and will debut as the C5 Aircross at April's Shanghai Auto Show. Although the C5 name was previously reserved to one of the brand's sedans, it will be used for the new crossover as the French marque looks to expand its range of SUV and crossovers to meet burgeoning demand for such vehicles. Two sketches of the production-spec C5 Aircross have been released and it closely resembles the concept that debuted almost exactly two years. The car depicted is finished in the same shade of red as the concept, includes almost identical headlights, a similar front grille, roof racks and a set of large wheels. No official details are known about the vehicle at this early stage but it is expected to be based around the same EMP2 platform as the Peugeot 5008 SUV.
