When it was designing the latest iteration of the Pathfinder, Nissan turned to the original SUV for inspiration. That helps explain the 2022 model’s new chunky design and, specifically, the three slots at the top of the grille. Although the rugged new styling might be the most notable change for the Pathfinder, a new transmission, different proportions, and a better suite of technology all feature prominently. To start, Nissan slotted a familiar 3.5-liter V6 under the hood. Making 284 hp and 259 lb-ft of torque, it’s the same engine Nissan uses today, but the automaker should be able to get more out of it thanks to a new 9-speed automatic. It replaces the CVT and, although EPA figures have not yet been released, it should help it achieve better fuel economy than the outgoing model. With a selection of off-road features, seven driving modes (standard, sport, eco, snow, sand, mud/rut, and tow) the new Pathfinder should be able to live up to its name. Nissan is getting ready to debut the SUV version of the NP300 Navara pickup truck but a pair of grainy photos spoiled the surprise. This is apparently the new Nissan XTerra, Paladin or Pathfinder, depending on which market it’ll become available and unlike previous Navara-based SUVs, this time the company took the time to make it look a bit more different than the model it’s based on. The front end now features wider headlights and what appears to be a different bumper and hood while the differences continue towards the rear, ditching the hardtop pickup truck look of its predecessors for a more modern SUV style. Nissan is expanding its Midnight Edition equipment package fleet by introducing five new models at the Chicago Auto Show 2017. Already available for the  Maxima SR , Midnight Edition versions of the Sentra, Altima, Rogue, Murano and Pathfinder have been launched with the same variety of visual modifications. The six Midnight Edition models can be painted in black, white, gray or red and all come with black wheels; 17-inch units for the Sentra SR and Rogue, 18-inch for the Altima SR, 19-inch for the Maxima SR and 20-inch for the Murano and  Pathfinder  Midnight Edition. Additionally, all six include black mirror caps and a selection of other black trimmings, including rear spoilers, roof rails or splash guards for the SUVs. Although the packages for each model are very similar, they do differ in price. The  2017 Nissan Pathfinder  gets an updated face, a new engine and a round of upgrades do to battle among all of the other three-row crossovers in a bid to be the people-carrying king. Nissan took the wraps off of the updates to the  three-year-old Pathfinder  Thursday in Dallas, Texas and concentrated attention on the blockier, more trucky front-end, which does away with the swooshy old Nissan corporate face that adorned many of its sedans. The Pathfinder doesn't want to be mistaken for a tall wagon or minivan, anymore, apparently. New LED lights, redesigned wheels and other nip-tucks are more predictable changes to keep things fresh-looking. Another big change for 2017 is the adoption of a direct-injection system to the previous 3.5-liter V6, which now makes 284 horsepower instead of 260 – and is now competitive with vehicles like the  Honda Pilot .
