2020 Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 Shooting Brake Combines Performance And Practicality

Image
The Mercedes-AMG lineup is continuing to grow as the company has introduced the new CLA 35 Shooting Brake. Designed to appeal to drivers who want a little performance with their practicality, the CLA 35 Shooting Brake has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 302 hp (225 kW / 306 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. The engine is connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission which sends power to a standard all-wheel drive system. This setup enables the wagon to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.9 seconds before hitting a limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). Besides the upgraded engine, the entry-level AMG has a unique grille and an AMG Line front bumper with flics near the air intakes.  Designers also installed a front splitter, silver chrome accents and aerodynamically optimized 18-inch lightweight alloy wheels.  Other notable features include sportier side skirts, a tailgate-mounted spoiler and a unique rear bumper with a...

All-New Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake Blends Practicality With Sensual Purity

Image
Mercedes has lifted the veils off their all-new CLA Shooting Brake at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, adding a touch of practicality to the four-door Coupe model’s expressive styling. The new car is more grown up compared to its predecessor, measuring an extra 48 mm (1.88 inches) in length, an additional 53 mm (2.08 inches) in width and 2 fewer mm (0.07 inches) in height, while the wheelbase has grown by 30 mm (1.18 inches). The exterior aspect of the all-new CLA Shooting Brake doesn’t come as a shock. We knew what to expect ever since we saw our first spy images and began applying those visual cues to the already-unveiled CLA Coupe. The Shooting Brake features the same “sharknose” frond end design, with an elongated hood and striking powerdomes. Since the car utilizes Mercedes‘ Sensual Purity design language, there’s a considerably less pronounced shoulder line, while the entire body features soft sculptural curvatures. Of course, the main addition, compared to the regular CLA...

New Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake, Concept EQV And GLC Facelift Confirmed For Geneva

Image
The Mercedes-Benz Concept EQV and the CLA Shooting Brake headline the automaker’s presence at next month’s Geneva Motor Show. The company has announced the full lineup for the 89th edition of the Swiss auto show and there’s a lot to talk about. For starters, the Concept EQV is described as “the world’s first SUV in the premium segment with purely battery-electric drive.” Where does that leave the EQC, then? Anyway, Mercedes says the EQV study is a near-series concept vehicle that combines “locally emission-free mobility with impressive performance, maximum functionality and aesthetic design.” Unless the press release mistakenly describes the EQV as an SUV instead of an MPV (which is most likely the case), we should be in for a big surprise. Judging by the study’s name, one would be inclined to think it’s an all-electric version of the V-Class. The mystery will no doubt be solved on March 5 when the press conference is scheduled. Since we’ve mentioned the V-Class, the people-...

New Mercedes CLA Coupe Is More Baby-CLS And Sportier Than Ever

Image
Mercedes has officially revealed the all-new CLA Coupe at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas as promised through a series of teasers. The new compact four-door coupe measures 4688mm long and 1830mm wide, making it 48mm longer and 53mm wider than its predecessor, while the wheelbase is also 30mm longer. As you would expect, the bigger footprint of the new CLA Coupe has given it a roomier interior. The second-generation CLA debuted in Las Vegas in CLA 250 form, meaning it’s powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol with 222hp (225PS) and 258lb-ft (350Nm) of torque. Paired to it is a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Mercedes didn’t detail the rest of the engine range, only saying that it’ll include most of the engines on offer with the A-Class, along with the selection between manual or dual-clutch transmissions and the option of the company’s 4Matic all-wheel drive. Driving dynamics play a big role in the new CLA; the front and rear trac...

Mercedes Aesthetics A Concept Previews New Design Language

Image
The design language set to be adopted by Mercedes-Benz’s future range of compact vehicles has just been previewed in the form of the Aesthetics A  sculpture . In the coming three years, up to eight models from the German brand will adopt styling inspired by the Aesthetics A, including the  next-generation A-Class  and B-Class. Additionally, successors to the CLA, CLA Shooting Brake and GLA will all receive updated designs, reports  Autocar . Mercedes says that the look previewed by the sculpture is a development of its ‘Sensual Purity’ design language. At the front, these developments include a new grille design mimicking the look first implemented into the range-topping AMG GT-R, dubbed the Panamericana grille. The hood continues to be characterized by aggressive lines and sharp creases. Perhaps the most obvious alteration in the brand’s design language are the simplified sides. Rather than supporting a host of different lines and shapes, the sides now simply con...

Daimler Road Map Reveals Mercedes-Benz GLA Coupe, E-Class All Terrain And More AMG GTs

Image
Hidden inside Daimler's half-year sales  results  is a small image that depicts what the Germans have in store for 2017. Joining the  GLC Coupe  and  GLE Coupe , the new GLA Coupe will be one of the first additions to the range. It will probably carry an identical front end as the  regular GLA , the same interior layout and probably most (if not all) of the engine lineup, waiting patiently for BMW to make a similar move with a possible  X2 . The E-Class family is also bound to expand beyond the current Sedan and Estate, with a  two-door Coupe  and the  hairy-chested All Terrain , which will rival the likes of the Audi A6 Allroad thanks to its increased ride height, plastic body claddings and adjustable air suspension. We also have the  E-Class Convertible  on this list, which is currently undergoing testing, so chances are it will go official the year after, when the  CLS  is also expected to turn the page. Mercede...

Mercedes-Benz Facelifts 2017 CLA Just In Time For New York

Image
Mercedes sent the CLA and its Shooting Brake counterpart to the plastic surgeon  for a light refresh  and these are the results.  The  differences are subtle  on the outside with new bumpers, a diamond radiator grille and new alloy wheel designs as Mercedes didn’t want to mess too much with the successful design of its compact model.  The cabin now benefits from new upholstery options and trim parts, as well as chrome-plated controls while on the technology front Mercedes added a slimmer-looking freestanding eight-inch media display. Other new tech features include the Active Brake Assist safety system, the Hands Free Access system which allows the tailgate to be opened without any physical contact and the optional LED High Performance headlamps which offer a color temperature closer to daylight than traditional xenon headlamps.  US models will be available with two petrol engines: the turbocharged 208hp 2.0-litre in the CLA 250, mated exclusively t...
