Opel Reveals Range-Topping Insignia GSi With 252HP

Image
This is the new Opel Insignia GSi, the sportiest derivative of Opel’s mid-sized model, which is expected to make its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September. Power comes from a turbocharged 2.0-liter petrol engine that makes 252hp (260PS) and 295lb-ft (400Nm) of torque and is mated to a new eight-speed automatic gearbox with paddles shifters on the steering. Opel also points out that despite the new model being less powerful by 69hp than the previous-gen Insignia OPC, it still manages a faster lap time at the Nurburgring. “It is this combination of low weight – especially on the front axle – low center of gravity, easy handling, high power over a wide rpm-band and best traction which makes the GSi so fast” said Volker Strycek, Opel’s Director Performance Cars & Motorsport. “That is pure efficiency. The high grip level is perfect for the Nordschleife and a fun-to-drive as well as safety advantage on public roads.” One of the reasons is because the new Insi...

Opel Insignia Sports Tourer Officially Stretches Its Roof From Geneva To Markets Worldwide

Image
Wagons may be a dying breed in America, replaced (alongside the minivan) by the ubiquitous crossover. But the state of the estate is still alive and kicking in many overseas markets that even an American automaker like General Motors can't ignore. Hence the new  Insignia Sports Tourer . Based closely on the recently revealed  Insignia Grand Sport  sedan, the new Sports Tourer is set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month to replace the outgoing model that won Europe's Car of the Year award back in 2009. So what we're looking at, essentially, is the same fresh architecture and  Monza -inspired design, but with a stretched roofline to offer more utility. More than 100 liters (3.5 cubic feet) more utility, in fact, as cargo capacity has grown to 1,640 liters (68 cubic feet) thanks to a load floor that's nearly four inches longer. That means the new Insignia Sports Tourer is larger than the model it replaces, but thanks to lightweight construction materials and ...

GM Unveils 2017 Opel Insignia Grand Sport, Previews 2018 Buick Regal & Holden Commodore

Image
Following  yesterday’s revealing scoops , the time for GM to pull the wraps off the new Insignia Grand Sport has come, with Vauxhall being the first brand to do so.  The  new Opel / Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport  is based on a new modular platform which allowed not only for athletic proportions but also for a more spacious cabin and class-leading aerodynamics with a Cd figure of 0.26. The  new underpinnings  also brought significant weight savings of up to 175kg (385lbs) with the body-in-white being 60kg (132lbs) lighter on its own. The roofline is now lower by 29mm with the tracks being wider by 11mm. The wheelbase is now longer by 92mm, with the overhangs reduced significantly.  As for the design, it’s pretty obvious that Opel wanted to bring as many elements of the Monza concept to production as they could. “Its design combines flowing lines and subtle surfaces with crisp, precise lines to exaggerate its dramatic proportions: it looks longer, low...

All-New 2017 Opel Insignia Spied Undisguised; Previews New Buick Regal & Holden Commodore Too

Image
If it feels like we've gone from seeing the next-generation Opel/Vauxhall Insignia - which will also wear the Buick Regal and Holden Commodore badges, go from fully-camouflaged to letting it all hang out rather quickly, it's probably because we have. Meet the  all-new 2017 Insignia  in all of its sleek, almost four-door coupe-like glory. Well, aside from a few pieces of black tape covering the emblems that is. Other than that, we're should pretty much feel unencumbered to analyze its rather Passat CC-rivaling appearance. In other words, it looks sporty and elegant at the same time, plus the model caught by our spy photographers here is wearing the OPC-Line package (see badges underneath turn signals), 20" wheels and the spoiler package. Since we're talking visuals, if you think the new Insignia definitely looks bigger than the  outgoing model , it's probably because Opel made sure that would be the case. The new-gen car is longer by 5 cm (1.9 in), with an ...

All-New Opel/Vauxhall Insignia Officially Previewed

Image
Vauxhall, the British counterpart of Opel, gave us an early peek at the upcoming Insignia. The current Insignia wasn’t exactly the most compact of its class, but Opel decided to make it even bigger in order to offer a cabin that can safely be described  as cavernous . Based on GM’s new modular architecture called E2, the new Insignia will come with a longer by over 9cm wheelbase while the overall length has also grown by over 5cm, measuring almost 4.9m in total. Tracks are also wider by 1cm with the roofline lowered by 3cm, giving the new Insignia a more imposing stance on the road. However and despite being noticeably bigger than its predecessor, the company says that their new model will be lighter by as much as 175kg compared to the current Insignia thanks to the clever use of lightweight materials.  The range-topping model at launch will be called Grand Sport and will be powered by a 247hp turbocharged 2.0-litre engine paired to a standard eight-speed automatic gearbox....
