Lego McLaren 720S Is For Those Who Can't Have The Real Thing

Image
Life is tough. You see a new supercar like the McLaren 720S come out, and you want it. But you can't have it, either because you're too young to drive, or don't have the cash to put down. Well, Lego is here to help with what may be the next best thing. The Danish toy company has added a miniature version of the British supercar to its Speed Champions (alongside the McLaren P1), and it's far more accessible. At £12.99, the Lego version doesn't cost a fraction of the £208,600 that McLaren gets for the real thing. Plus you don't need a driver's license to buy one and enjoy it. The set comes with enough pieces not only to build the little car, but an accompanying designer at his desk – complete with coffee cup, design sketch, and (most meta of all) even a 3D-printed model car. The designer even gets a helmet for driving on the track, there's swappable wheels (or hubcaps at least), and a little wrench for changing them. The box hits shelves in June, ...

Life-size 1964 Ford Mustang recreated in Lego

Image
What you're looking at here is 194,900 Lego bricks. The pieces were constructed to recreate this life-size 1964.5 Ford Mustang V8 coupe, making it the latest and possibly greatest attraction at LegoLand Florida Resort (so far). It was built as part of a partnership between Southern Ford Dealers and Lego, and will have a permanent home outside of the Ford Driving School attraction at the park from here on out. The car measures in at 15 feet long, six feet wide, and more than four feet tall. It weighs a total of 1,712 pounds — 960 of which are pure Lego and Duplo bricks, while the other 752 is a flat, aluminum “chassis” designed specifically for the build. It was created by a veteran team of Master Builders at Lego Systems, Inc., in Enfield, Connecticut, and was first introduced at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the 40th anniversary celebration of the Mustang Club of America early in September. The Mustang build will replace a full-...

Caterham 620R Lego Set Ready To Drive Off The Shelf

Image
The appeal of the Caterham Seven is just how basic it is. The iconic design, you might say, is boiled down to its building blocks. But now Caterham is taking that idea a step further with a new Lego set. The  latest crowd-sourced design  from the famous Danish toy company replicates the  Caterham 620R  – one of the most hardcore iterations of Colin Chapman's original design to date.  The proposal was submitted  through the Lego Ideas platform  by one Carl Greatrix and garnered the 10,000 votes necessary to put it into production and onto shelves at toy stores around the world. Now revealed in its final form, the kit is made up of more than 770 pieces and includes a removable nose cone, removable engine cover, opening trunk, detailed engine... even axle stands that allow the assembled model to be displayed with its wheels off. Once completed, the Lego 620R measures 11 inches long and four inches tall, and comes in yellow with black racing stripes. It...
