Suzuki E-Survivor Concept Looks Like A Jeep-Inspired Mars Rover

Image
In between developing of an entirely new Jimny and upgrading some models, Suzuki took their time to create a fresh study called e-Survivor. Displayed in front of the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show audience, the e-Survivor is an open-top two-seater off-roader that looks basically like a Mars rover inspired by Jeep, but that's a completely different story. What we should focus upon instead is its very generous ground clearance and chunky off-road rubber that give it a go-anywhere flair; and the thing is that this small Suzuki study might just do that - go anywhere, as it's built on a ladder frame. Moreover, as its name suggests, the e-Survivor is a zero-emission vehicle, set in motion by four electric motors, one integrated in each wheel, which creates an all-wheel drive system. The Japanese automaker decided to keep specs close to its chest, claiming that it could target the segment up to 100 years into the future. With this bold statement, one might assume that the...

Suzuki Xbee Concept Revealed

Image
Suzuki has a raft of concepts lined up for the Tokyo Motor Show next month, including the Xbee you see here. Not to be confused with the Scion xB, the Suzuki Xbee (pronounced “Crossbi”) takes the form of a retro off-roader in similar style to – but smaller form than – Toyota's discontinued FJ Cruiser. The small crossover is ostensibly based on the Hustler minivan, and will appear at the Tokyo Big Sight convention center in three forms: the yellow Xbee, the beige Xbee Outdoor Adventure, and the black Xbee Street Adventure – each displaying another take on the same design. Along with them, Suzuki is showcasing the futuristic e-Survivor electric off-roader, as well as two approaches to the Spacia wagon: the retro baby-blue Spacia Concept and the more aggressively styled white Spacia Custom Concept. There's also a light delivery van called the Carry Light Tiger Ichi Concept and an array of motorcycles as well, showing that while Suzuki may have withdrawn from...

Suzuki e-Survivor Concept Previews The Electric Off-Roader Of The Future

Image
If you told us this was Jeep's vision for a the pocket-sized off-roader of the future, we might almost believe you. But it's not. It's a Suzuki. Called the e-Survivor, the show “truck” (if you could call it that) draws on compact sport-utes from the Japanese automaker's history, like the Jimny, Sideckick/Vitara, and X90. The concept is built on a truck-style ladder frame, which tells you this is no car-based crossover. But it integrates electric propulsion, with an individual hub motor in each wheel for through-the-road (or off-the-road) all-wheel drive. Details are otherwise rather scarce at the moment, but as you can see, it features a two-seat open cockpit, with clear doors that may be the next best thing to taking the doors off completely, Wrangler-style. With the wheels extending about as far as the bumpers, it also looks like it'd have nearly 90-degree approach and departure angles, and enough ground clearance to drive over one of the company's ...

New Suzuki Swift Sport Packs 1.4 Turbo, Weighs Less Than A Tonne

Image
The third generation Suzuki Swift Sport made its global premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show. As expected, the new Japanese hot hatch ditches the naturally aspirated 1.6-liter engine of the previous model for the company’s 1.4-liter BoosterJet unit which makes 138hp and 169lb-ft (230Nm) of torque. The new model is also lighter by 80kg compared to its predecessor, tipping the scales at just 970kg. The new platform is not only lighter however but stiffer and safer as well. The 1.4-liter BoosterJet engine features direct injection, a short-port intake manifold and an integrated to the cylinder head exhaust manifold. Paired to it is the six-speed manual transmission used in the previous Swift Sport but now it has been tuned for improved smoothness, better feel and increased rigidity. The front suspension utilizes Monroe dampers, along with thicker anti-roll bars while the wheel hub and wheel bearings are now combined into a single unit for better rigidity. The rear s...

2019 Suzuki Jimny Leaks Looking Familiar

Image
Not long after spies snapped the 2019 Suzuki Jimny in the midst of testing , images of the redesigned SUV have emerged following a company presentation detailing its product roadmap. As we long suspected (and hoped for), the new Jimny hasn't totally sacrificed its iconic design and still remains identifiable. What that means is that the SUV maintains its small proportions and its front end continues to be dominated by a slim, horizontal grille and a set of simple headlights, now round rather than the square shape of the original. The interior of the new Jimny also has a very boxy design reminiscent of the old car but there are some changes, most notably a large touchscreen infotainment screen and a redesigned steering wheel. Sources suggest that the 2019 Jimny will use a ladder frame and the firm's AllGrip Pro all-wheel drive system. Engines remain unknown at this stage but the 110 hp, 1.0-liter engine of the Baleno is expected. Expect to see the 2019 Suzuki Jimny pr...

Suzuki Reveals All-New Swift Sport, Confirms Frankfurt Show Debut

Image
Suzuki has confirmed the latest generation of the Swift Sport for the Frankfurt Motor Show, releasing its first official photo as well. The compact hot hatch is set to continue the company’s hot-hatch tradition, only this time the time has come for its zingy, naturally aspirated 1.6-liter engine to retire and make way for a turbocharged unit. The new engine will most likely come from the Vitara’s range and is no other than the turbocharged 1.4-liter BoosterJet unit, which makes 138 HP and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque in the case of Suzuki’s SUV model. Combine this with a really low kerb weight, with reports talking as low as 870kg (1,918lbs), and the new Suzuki Swift Sport suddenly sounds hotter than ever, as it will deliver an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 159hp per ton. We will know for sure once Suzuki releases all the details about the new Swift Sport on Tuesday, September 12. Carscoops

Suzuki Reveals New Swift Ahead Of Geneva Debut

Image
We've seen the  spy shots , we've seen the  leaked images ... but now it's official:  Suzuki  has revealed the  all-new Swift . Shown and detailed here in JDM spec, the new hatchback looks exactly as expected – which is, to say, instantly recognizable as a Suzuki Swift, but as a completely new one. In its home market, the new Swift will be offered in seven trim levels with three engine options: a 1.2-liter inline four is the base engine, but a mild hybrid version of the same will also be offered – along with a 1.0-liter turbo in the sportiest RSt model. Output figures have yet to be released, but a number of drivetrain configurations have. The hybrid is mated (as is typical) to a CVT, while the base engine offers a no-cost five-speed manual option as well. Both can be had with front- or  all-wheel drive , but the turbo model only comes in front-drive spec with a six-speed automatic. Along with the new engines, Suzuki has equipped the new Swift with all t...

New Photo Emerges Of Next-Generation Suzuki Swift

Image
An intriguing image of the updated Suzuki  Swift  has emerged online and despite its low resolution, it’s certainly provides us with our best look yet at the model. Earlier in the year, a number of apparent  official renderings  of the next-generation Swift emerged online, showcasing a much more modern and flowing design. This particular image also shows the Swift with a new look but it differs on a number of fronts from those renderings and, of course, the outgoing model. For starters, it has been fitted with a set of distinctive headlights with more curved edges than the current car. Additionally, the inner design of the headlight units themselves have been refined. Other noteworthy elements include the new fog lights and the black fog flight surrounds which stretch across the entire width of the front fascia. Unsurprisingly, there’s also a new grille. Other points of difference are hard to notice from this single image but there does appear to be a contrasting ...

New Suzuki Ignis Lands In Europe, Plans To Steal The Hearts Of SUV-Lovers

Image
Suzuki brought their new Ignis at  the Paris Auto Show  for its European debut, with the new compact crossover wanting to attract customers out for a versatile model that easy to live with.  Based on Suzuki’s new lightweight new-generation platform, the new Ignis comes powered by  a mild hybrid powertrain  which combines a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine with an integrated starter generator (ISG) and a lithium-ion battery pack.  A five-speed manual transmission will be offered as standard, with an five-speed AGS (Auto Gear Shift) automated manual gearbox to be offered as an option.
