2019 Infiniti QX50 Bows In LA With World's First Production Variable Compression Engine

Image
Following a preview earlier this month, Infiniti has unveiled the 2019 QX50. Previewed by the QX Sport Inspiration concept, the production model has a "Powerful Elegance" design that has been created to give the crossover a commanding presence. As part of this mission, the model has been equipped with a bold front fascia that features a double-arch grille and slender LED headlights. The dynamic styling is evident elsewhere as designers installed a clamshell hood, strong character lines, and tasteful amounts of plastic body cladding. A closer inspection reveals a chromed dual exhaust system, LED taillights, and 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels. Infiniti interiors have always been a bit of a mixed bag but the cabin in the QX50 makes an impressive first appearance. A variety of different types of leather will be available and they can be mated with wood or aluminum trim. Another notable interior feature is the new InTouch infotainment system which consists of a...

2019 Infiniti QX50 Uncovered Before LA Premiere

Image
The first official image of the 2019 Infiniti QX50 mid-size SUV has been published before the vehicle’s launch at the LA Auto Show. In designing the QX50, Infiniti has kept the styling eerily similar to the QX50 Concept from earlier this year. In fact, the only significant differences on the front fascia are unique headlights, fewer chrome accents and a set of small faux air intakes under the headlights. Like the concept, the side of Infiniti’s new QX50 features black wheel arch trim, chrome accents around the side windows and a pair of seductive lines running horizontally along the doors. Beneath the sleek bodywork of the QX50 sits a new front-wheel drive platform that’s 23 per cent more rigid than the old model. The headline of the new Infiniti QX50 isn’t the platform, however. Instead, what really sets the SUV apart from any other production vehicle is the VC-Turbo four-cylinder, featuring a continuously adjusting compression ratio between 8:1 for maximum performance and ...

First Teaser of 2019 Infiniti QX50 Reveals Fresh Design Ques

Image
Infiniti is gearing up for the big debut of the all-new 2019 QX50 at the LA Auto Show, dropping at the same time the first teaser image ahead of the November 28 reveal event. The released picture shows a front end with similar design cues of the recently revealed 2018 QX80 but the new QX50 is expected to feature a more sculptural and dynamic shape. The biggest news however are expected to come from under the bonnet as the new QX50 is reportedly going to become Infiniti’s first model to use their new petrol engine with variable compression technology. The engine itself will be a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged unit with 268hp and 288lb-ft (390Nm) of torque and will feature an electrically controlled actuator and a unique "elliptic device" called a multilink, enabling it to adjust its compression ratio from 8:1 to 14:1. Infiniti expects the new QX50 to be 27 percent more fuel efficient with the new engine, compared to the outgoing 325hp 3.7-liter V6-equipped mod...

2018 Infiniti QX50 Revealed In New Patent Photos

Image
Infiniti recently unveiled the QX50 concept at the North American International Auto Show and now we could be getting our best glimpse of the production model. These patent images show a stylish crossover which closely mimics the aforementioned concept. Despite this, there are a handful of changes including a slightly smaller grille and a new front bumper with more restrained air intakes. The side profile remains pretty true to the concept but designers installed traditional door handles and revised side skirts. Additional changes are limited but there's a more conventional rear bumper and a new tailgate-mounted spoiler with a smaller third brake light. Infiniti hasn't said much about the model but when they introduced the QX50 concept, they strongly hinted the production crossover would use their new Variable Compression Turbo (VC-Turbo) engine. At the time, Infiniti mentioned that the crossover is "one of the ideal applications" for the 2.0-liter VC-Turbo...

Next year's  Detroit Auto Show  will mark the global debut of the new Infiniti QX50 Concept, representing the brand's vision for a next-gen mid-size premium SUV. In terms of design, the QX50 Concept is an evolution of the  2016 QX Sport Inspiration , while attempting to show how the brand's 'Powerful Elegance' design language could be adapted for a future production model. The new concept features what Infiniti calls a "cabin-forward" silhouette, combining taut, muscular lines with flowing surfaces in order to obtain a dynamic yet practical appearance. Inside, the "driver-centric, passenger-minded" cabin is a reflection of the exterior - blending progressive design with high levels of modern craftsmanship. The concept's interior also reflects Infiniti's desire to challenge conventional premium interior designs and introduce their own take on it. "With the unveiling of the QX Sport Inspiration at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show, we show...
