Hot on the heels of unveiling of the R1T, Rivian has taken the wraps off their new R1S SUV. Set to be shown at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the R1S is largely identical to the electric pickup but it features unique styling aft of the A-pillar. The biggest change is the new body style which results in the R1S having longer rear doors, a gently sloping roof and a more practical interior that can set up to seven people. Like the R1T, the R1S will be offered in multiple configurations and the base model will have a 105 kWh battery pack which powers four electric motors. This setup gives the SUV a combined output of 402 hp (300 kW / 407 PS) and 412 lb-ft (560 Nm) of torque. In terms of performance, the entry-level model can accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 4.9 seconds, hit a top speed of 125 mph (201 km/h) and travel more than 240 miles (386 km) on a single charge. The dawn of the electric pickup truck is upon us, as Rivian has just unveiled their take on the segment in the R1T, which has been dubbed an ‘Electric Adventure Vehicle’ with a range of more than 400 miles (643 km) and enough room to seat five adult passengers comfortably. The R1T is one of two all-electric cars that Rivian will showcase at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show, the other one being a fully electric SUV called R1S. “I started Rivian to deliver products that the world didn’t already have – to redefine expectations through the application of technology and innovation. Set to be unveiled on November 26th, the electric pickup will have a unique front fascia with a slender light bar and that connects two vertical headlights. The latter components have four stacked lights which are surrounded by an outer light ring. Additional styling details are hard to make out, but the model appears to have small side mirrors and a plastic front bumper. We can also see a contrasting roof, a relatively small bed and full-width taillights. Little else is known about the truck, but previous reports have suggested the model will be about the same size as the Honda Ridgeline and have a base price of approximately $50,000. The entry-level truck is also slated to have an 80 kWh battery pack, a range of around 200 miles (321 km) and a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time of less than five seconds.
