McLaren To Unveil 18 New Models, Including P1 Successor, Until 2025

Image
At Goodwood, McLaren has announced its new Track25 business plan, aimed at taking the British automaker well into the next decade. Among the milestones set by the Track25 roadmap is to ensure that McLaren’s entire sports car and supercar range will feature hybrid power within the next seven years, among them a new Ultimate Series that will succeed the petrol-electric P1. McLaren will also evaluate new augmented driving features in order to develop a lighter, superfast-charging, high-power battery system for performance applications, expected to offer more than 30 minutes of electric range around a race track. The soon-to-open McLaren Composites Technology Center (MCTC) will be where the automaker will develop and manufacture lightweight technology. Once operational, the MCTC will ensure that roughly 57% of vehicle content by value will be UK-sourced. Mostly, though, the focus will be to develop 18 new models or derivatives that should lift production by almost 75%, meaning b...

Lanzante Shows Off The McLaren P1 GT Ahead Of Its Official Debut

Image
It’s hard to believe the final McLaren P1 was built back in 2015, but the model is once again in the spotlight as Lanzante has released the first pictures of the P1 GT. Set to debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the P1 GT is a beautiful hypercar that features a dark green exterior with a prominent carbon fiber front splitter. The car has also been equipped with additional vents, a larger roof-mounted intake and a massive rear wing. Other changes include the addition of a four-tailpipe exhaust system and a modified rear diffuser. Moving into the cabin, we can see a unique carbon fiber steering wheel with green leather grips. Additional changes are hard to spot but the GT has two-tone seats, green door pulls and a special badge on the driver’s side. The GT appears to be based on the P1 GTR which featured a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine with 789 hp (588 kW / 800 PS). The car was also equipped with a lightweight electric motor that contributed an additional 197 hp (...

McLaren P1 LM Prototype Edges Out NIO EP9 and Huracan Performante, Sets 6:43.2 Ring Record

Image
After becoming the fastest road car ever to run up the Goodwood Hill, the McLaren P1 LM has just added another big notch to its belt. This XP1LM prototype is said to be identical to all five P1 LM production cars ever built, which is why we should take note of its amazing achievement at the Nordschleife. After the XP1LM managed to set a new lap record of 6.43.2, it drove directly from the Nurburgring back home in the UK. This project represents only the latest collaboration between Lanzante Motorsport and former Indy 500 winner Kenny Brack. The project was also backed by McLaren and Pirelli, with the latter constructing a specific size and compound road legal Trofeo R tire for the P1 LM. To put this achievement into perspective, we will remind you that the Huracan Performante turned heads with its 'Ring time of 6 min and 52 seconds set last year, whereas the lightning-quick NIO EP9 did a 6:45.9 - slower than the P1 LM by a little over 2 and a half seconds. McLaren's New Entry-Level Model Is An All-Electric P1

Image
Have you been waiting for a new version of the  McLaren P1 ? Perhaps with an open roof, central driving position, and, say, an  electric powertrain ? Well we're glad to report that your day has come. But it's not exactly what you may have expected. The latest vehicle revealed by McLaren Automotive is a ride-on, Power Wheels-style  toy for kids . It's designed to look like the P1, only smaller. Much smaller.  It features the company's signature dihedral doors, a Volcano Yellow and black paintjob, and an onboard audio system that plays popular nursery rhymes. We'd even wager it's mostly made out of composites, even if they're toy-grade plastic (and not lightweight carbon fiber). As befits a McLaren, it takes just two seconds to reach its top speed – although that top speed is just 3 miles per hour. It does have a reverse gear, should your kid find him- or herself in the tire wall, and best of all, its price undercuts even  the entry-level 570S . The ride-on...

NextEV to Reveal New McLaren P1-Rivaling Hypercar This Year

Image
NextEV is planning to release a new McLaren P1-rivaling hypercar by the end of next year. The Chinese-backed NextEV company is headed by former president of Ford of Europe Martin Leach and also runs a Formula E team. They won the Formula E drivers’ championship with Nelson Piquet Jr. in 2014-2015. The NextEV supercar is reported to have performance to rival the likes of the McLaren P1 and LaFerrari. It will also likely rival both cars in terms of price as well. The car has reportedly been under development for the past two years in Munich. “The first car is designed to attract attention and to show what we can do from a technology standpoint,” Leach said. “But we will ultimately offer a wider range of models.” The NextEV hypercar will be launched in Europe by the end of next year. We will keep you updated as we hear more.
