Gordon Murray is best-known for creating the McLaren F1 and now he’s following up with a spiritual successor of sorts known as the T.50. Designed to be the purest, lightest and most driver-centric supercar ever created, the T.50 improves on the McLaren F1 “in every conceivable way.” Of course, that’s a bit subjective as T.50 looks like a McLaren and a Porsche 918 Spyder. That being said, the car does take the idea of the F1 into the modern era. Starting up front, there’s a wedge-shaped nose which features a pair of F1-inspired LED headlights. The model also has a rakish windscreen, dihedral doors and engine covers that open upwards. The design of the doors is echoed on the glass roof, but the most notable characteristic is the roof-mounted scoop which feeds air to the naturally-aspirated V12 engine. In 2022, Gordon Murray will launch the spiritual successor to the iconic McLaren F1, which he masterminded back in the 1990s. The new supercar, dubbed T.50, will be manufactured by Gordon Murray Automotive and is being touted as the “purest, lightest, most driver-focused supercar ever built.” Powering the T.50 will be a naturally-aspirated 3.9-liter V12 developed and built by Cosworth with 650 HP and 331 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque, which will rev to a stratospheric 12,100 rpm. While those figures aren’t extraordinary in the modern world of supercars and hypercars, Murray notes that maximum power is, in reality, closer to 700 HP thanks to the ram-air effect provided by the large roof scoop. New details of Gordon Murray's supercar are starting to emerge, as it will be built under the revived IGM brand, which was first used in the late '60s on the designer's 'T.1' IGM Ford Special. Teased in an official image that partially reveals its mid-engined shape with soft and muscular lines, the as-of-yet-unnamed vehicle is a 50-year celebration of Gordon Murray's career.
