New Skoda Karoq Unveiled With Five Engine Options

Image
Skoda has unveiled the all-new Karoq at a special event in Stockholm. Set to slot beneath the Kodiaq, the Karoq is a stylish crossover with a sculpted hood, a slender grille, and optional LED headlights. The model also has muscular wheel arches, plastic body cladding, and chiseled bodywork. Rounding out the styling features are a tailgate-mounted spoiler, distinctive taillights, and an assortment of wheels ranging in sizes from 16- to 19-inches. Overall, the crossover measures 4,382mm (14.3 feet) long, 1,841mm (6 feet) wide, and 1,605mm (5.2 feet) tall with a wheelbase that spans up to 2,638mm (6.2 feet). The interior is relatively straightforward but the Karoq becomes the first Skoda model to be offered with a digital instrument cluster. Customers can also order a heated steering wheel, heated front / rear seats, and LED ambient lighting. Other highlights include a wireless smartphone charger and infotainment systems with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Buyers...

Skoda Previews New Karoq Compact SUV Ahead Of Its Debut Next Week

Image
Skoda is preparing to roll out its new Karoq next week. But before it does, it's giving us a glimpse at what to expect. Several glimpses, in fact, as the Czech automaker has revealed five new teaser images (in addition to the nameplate previously announced) of the forthcoming compact crossover. The latest embodiment of Skoda's current design theme, the Karoq will feature the brand's signature grille, flanked by (optional) LED headlights, with (standard) LED taillights around back – all with “crystalline” elements evocative of Czech glassware and sharply angled to make the model stand out in an already crowded segment. At 172.5 inches long, 72.5 inches wide, 63 inches tall, and riding on a 104-inch wheelbase, it's closer in size (for comparison's sake) to the previous third-generation Toyota RAV4 than the newer, larger fourth-gen model. It's also a fair bit bigger (in every dimension but height) than the Yeti it replaces – to say nothing of the larger Ko...

After confirming that the brand new Karoq compact SUV will be properly unveiled on May 18th, Skoda has now shared more details about the model's styling, features, powertrains and market launch. The Karoq will hit markets in the second half of 2017, following its May 18th world premiere in Stockholm. Offering a choice of four new engines, the Czech automaker's new compact SUV will also come with up to five driving modes and a special off road mode. Still, before we talk powertrains, let's run through the Karoq's appearance and dimensions. It's clear that Skoda applied its new SUV design language to the Karoq, characterized by dynamic lines with numerous crystalline elements. Full LED headlights with clear-lens optics will be available as an option, starting with the Ambition spec, whereas the new interior LED ambient lighting in the decor strips of the doors and dashboard can be set in ten different colors. In terms of size, the Karoq measures 4,382 mm (1...
