General Motors and Holden Special Vehicles have reached an agreement which will ensure the latter company remains active following the death of the rear-wheel drive Holden Commodore. Described as a "pivotal moment" in HSV’s history, the agreement paves the way for an assortment of new vehicles to come to Australia. There will be two "product streams" and the first will consist of the familiar vehicle enhancement program that is offered on existing Holden vehicles. An example of this is the new HSV SportsCat which is based on the Holden Colorado. The model features an all-new front fascia with a revised grille, tow hooks, and LED fog lights. Other notable features include new fender flares, a retuned suspension, and an increased ride height. Power is provided by a 2.8-liter Duramax Turbo Diesel engine that produces up to 197 hp (147 kW) and 368 lb-ft (500Nm) of torque. The Chevrolet SS, one of the  most honest and talented four-door models of the market , is apparently heading to its extinction this year. The confirmation came from Alan Batey, President of GM North America according to  WardsAuto . It will be a sad day when the SS ceases to exist but we all knew that this was approaching fast; the slow sales didn’t help the SS but to be fair, Chevrolet didn’t do much to promote it either. Essentially the left-hand drive version of the Holden Commodore, the Chevrolet SS was praised by many, but bought by too few. Many people and the press saw  a true spiritual successor of the E39 M5  in the SS, and that means a lot to the right ears.  It was also offered with a six-speed manual gearbox as well, but these days no one is really  looking to buy a thirsty V8-powered four-door  that demands you do the work of shifting. Among the  myriad of Camaros  making their way to the Las Vegas strip for this year’s SEMA show are two concepts from Chevrolet named the Turbo AutoX and SS Slammer.  Starting with the Turbo AutoX, it’s based on the  2.0-liter turbocharged Camaro sporting  a hard-to-miss Shock Yellow paint-job complemented with Pearl Nickel hood stripes and satin Carbon Flash Metallic accents, with Chevy stating that it comes with “more agile handling that’s ideal for autocross enthusiasts.” The bow-tie brand says it improved the car’s roll stiffness and turn-in performance through a series of suspension upgrades. These include an available Chevrolet Performance lowering kit with stiffer springs and specifically tuned dampers that lower the ride height up to 0.75 inch (20mm), matched to conceptual parts, including a “plus performance” handling kit with larger stabilizer bars and stiffer suspension links, and a strut tower brace under the hood.  Other additions include a ...

We already know that GM will pull the plug on their Australian production facilities  in 2017 , which in turn leads to the death of the Holden Commodore and its American cousin, the Chevy SS. Right? Wrong.
