North American International Auto Show Officially Moving To June In 2020

Image
The North American International Auto Show has been a January tradition for decades but, in the face increased competition from the Consumer Electronics Show and declining automaker participation, the show is officially moving to June. The change will take place in 2020, when the show will kick off during the week of June 8th. The move has been under discussion for over a year and previous reports have suggested General Motors was pushing for the show to be held in June. While the first summer time event is nearly two years away, the show is already hinting at what to expect. According to show’s organizers, the main event will continue to take place inside Cobo Center as various vehicles and technology exhibits will be on display. However, there will now be outdoor events which are envisioned to include dynamic vehicle debuts, consumer ride and drives, autonomous driving demonstrations and an off-road driving course. The show suggests these events could take place at ...

Evantra Millecavalli unleashed with 1,000 horsepower

Image
Codenamed “EV-R,” the Evantra Millecavalli is far from being a pure electric vehicle as the internal code would suggest. After a very long teaser campaign, Italian specialty marque Mazzanti Automobili is finally showing us the final version of the car which will be on display between June 8 and 12 at the 2016 Salone Auto Torino in Italy. Billed as being the “most powerful street-legal hypercar ever built in Italy,” the Evantra Millecavalli is motivated by a newly developed biturbo 7.2-liter V8 engine. The massive unit is able to hit the magical 1,000-hp mark and generates a peak torque in excess of 886 pound-feet (1,200 Nm). Looking like a hardcore version of the original Evantra, the Millecavalli will run to 60 mph (96 kph) from a standstill in just 2.7 seconds. There’s no word about top speed, but it should be pretty high taking into account how much power the supercar packs. In addition, weight is likely very low since the regular 224-mph Evantra tips the scal...

New Audi A5 to debut in Ingolstadt on June 2

Image
Audi  will introduce the second-generation  A5  during a late-night lightshow at its Ingolstadt, Germany, museum on June 2. In the announcement, the company only called out the standard model, but a new  S5  coupe is probably not too far behind. Details on the next A5 have been scarce, and  spy shots  haven't revealed much. Our most recent images  come from June   of last year  and show a vehicle that more or less follows the current A5's theme – a two-door  A4  with a few small visual tweaks to distinguish it from the sedan, including a wider stance. Expect an interior treatment very similar to the  A4 's as well. The new coupe's mechanicals should mirror those of the four-door as well. The A5 will likely stick with a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder (the A4's currently makes 252 hp) and ditch the current car's eight-speed automatic transmission for a new seven-speed dual-clutch. Unlike the sedan, the coupe is lik...
