Mazda has introduced the new CX-8 in Japan. Set to become the brand's domestic flagship crossover, the model adopts a stylish KODO design which was created to "look both timeless and edgy" so it will "continue to excite owners even after many years." The entry-level model comes nicely equipped with LED headlights and 17-inch aluminum wheels. The range-topping variant goes even further as it boasts LED fog lights, bright roof rails, and 19-inch alloy wheels. Overall, the CX-8 measures 4,900mm (192.9 inches) long, 1,840mm (72.4 inches) wide, and 1,730mm (68.1 inches) tall. This means the model is about 165mm (6.5 inches) shorter and 130mm (5.1 inches) narrower than the CX-9 which isn't offered in Japan. Mazda is about to introduce a new SUV in its Japanese lineup in the form of the CX-8, a slightly shorter version of the CX-9 and a few photos of its brochure have found their way online ahead of its official reveal. As mentioned before, the new Mazda CX-8 will ride on the same platform with the CX-9 and even share its 2,930 mm (115.3 in) wheelbase with its longer sibling. However the footprint of the upcoming CX-8 will be a tad smaller, as it will be 115 mm (4.52 in) shorter in length, is 129 mm (5.1 in) narrower and 17 mm (0.7 in) lower than the CX-9 which isn’t available for sale in Japan. Customers looking for a three-seat crossover can head to their nearest Mazda dealership and check out the CX-9. Right? In America, sure. And other markets, too. But not in Japan. That's where the forthcoming new CX-8 comes in. Previewed in this first exterior image, the CX-8 looks an awful lot like the CX-9. But it's actually one smaller. Though riding on the same 115.3-inch wheelbase as the CX-9, and boasting six- or seven-seat capacity (depending on setup), the CX-8 is slightly smaller in every exterior dimension: four and a half inches shorter from nose to tail, five inches narrower, and more than half an inch lower. It's wrapped in similar sheetmetal to the CX-9's as well, and is even shown with similar wheel design. But if you look closely, even just in profile, you may notice a few small stylistic differences: the window frame in the D-pillar kinks a bit higher, for example, and the front fender line drops off towards the front door handle more sharply. A single image and a number of specifications have been released about Mazda’s next SUV, the CX-8. While news of the vehicles comes out of the blue, it has been confirmed that the CX-8 will be offered in Japan, at least initially, and have six- and seven-seat configurations. Also, the new model will join the CX-4 as Mazda's second SUV offered solely in Asia. The CX-8 is believed to be based around the same platform as the CX-9, as it shares its 2,930 mm (115.3 in) wheelbase with its bigger and older sibling.
