2020 Volkswagen Golf Mk8 Photographed Virtually Undisguised From All Angles

Image
While VW did not reveal the all-new 8th generation 2020 Golf at this week’s Geneva Motor Show as many of us anticipated, we believe we can make it up with the best and most revealing photos of the popular compact model yet. It’s virtually undisguised, as only the front and rear lights have some distracting fake decals. However, the production car will use similar lighting units on both ends, so styling-wise, we don’t anticipate any surprises between now and its unveiling later this year. VW’s latest design language seems to fit the MK8 Golf pretty well, giving it an overall sleeker and more modern appearance, while also paying homage to the MK7 model, which ditched the MK6’s curvy lines in favor of a sharper look. Still, every single body panel is new on the MK8, and the front end design gives it a squinty, sort of menacing aesthetic, somewhat similar to the Arteon’s. The car also looks wider than before and if you look close, you’ll notice that the base of the mirrors...

2020 Land Rover Defender Teased, Could Debut Next Year

Image
Land Rover is getting into the holiday spirit by releasing a new teaser image of the 2020 Defender. Showing the model being unloaded from a trailer, the teaser says “Do not unwrap until 2019.” This suggests the Defender will be unveiled next year, but Land Rover also hinted additional information will be released on December 27th. While the teaser image is surprisingly low resolution, that isn’t much of a problem as spy photographers have already caught the three- and five-door variants undergoing testing. Those photos show the model will have a bit of a resemblance to the LR3, while also being unmistakable as a Defender. In terms of styling, the Defender has a squared off front fascia with a small grille that features a horizontal bar. Further below, we can see a rounded bumper and mesh screens which likely hide large air intakes. Moving further back, the model has pronounced fender flares and slab-sided bodywork. Fans will also notice front fender vents, a rakish win...

All-New 2019 Mazda3 Looks Sleek Inside And Out In Best Photos Yet

Image
Ladies and gentlemen, these are the very first spy shots of the upcoming 2019 Mazda3 hatchback. Scheduled to debut later this month at the LA Auto Show both in hatchback and sedan body styles, Mazda’s all-new compact model looks promising in these first spy shots. Photographers spotted a fully-camouflaged prototype in Europe during testing and even got a peek at its interior. Fortunately, Mazda didn’t bother disguising the cabin that much. As you can see here, engineers tested the all-new Mazda3 alongside a VW Golf and Audi A3. Furthermore, a current Mazda3 was also part of the test group. Both the bodywork and the cabin reveal clear influences from the Kai Concept, although the 2019 Mazda3 obviously looks a bit toned down in comparison. The new Japanese compact hatchback displays harmonious proportions and striking details. Those include the sharp headlights and taillights, the gaping grille, as well as the dynamic treatment of the C-pillar. All of the above are inf...

2020 Mid-Engine Corvette C8: This Is It

Image
This is our first proper look at the upcoming next-generation Corvette, as a test car showed up at the Nurburgring without wearing the black covers previously applied. The car remains covered in full-body wrap but it’s the first time we get to see a lot of design details of the mid-engined Corvette. Where do we start? The front end appears really sharp and aggressive, with the bumpers giving us a Lamborghini vibe while the headlights seem to adopt a curvy L-shape that follows the lines of the bonnet. The highlight on the sides is of course that massive air scoops for the engine bay while it appears there are a few character lines present for a more muscular shape. It looks clean and dynamic, but with the camo on it’s risky to jump on conclusions. The rear end tries to throw us off with the use of Camaro taillights instead of the finished items. The rear window over the engine is accompanied by two sets of air outlets while underneath the lights there’s also anoth...

The Lexus LC F Is Finally Happening, Here Are The First Photos Of The New Performance Flagship

Image
Rumors about a Lexus LC F have been floating around for months, but spy photographers have finally caught the model undergoing testing. Snapped in Germany, the high-performance coupe has a modified front bumper with huge air intakes. The bumper doesn’t appear to be production ready, but the car also has extended front wheel arches which suggest the model may have a slightly wider track. The rest of the styling largely carries over, but the LC F has lightweight wheels that are backed up by a high-performance braking system. We can also see a stacked four tailpipe exhaust system which echoes other F models such as the RC F and GS F. Lexus has been tight-lipped about the highly-anticipated model, but it appears the company is already gearing up for the car’s marketing campaign. As you can see in these photos, the LC F was being lead by a camera crew in a Mercedes C-Class Convertible and we’ll presumably see the footage in a video documenting the car’s development. O...

Lexus RC F GT Spied With An Assortment Of Carbon Fiber Components

Image
Lexus RC sales are trickling off, but the company is hoping to renew interest in the model by developing a range-topping RC F GT. Previewed by the RC F GT concept, the production model will be a track-oriented coupe that is designed to slot between the standard RC F and the RC F GT3 race car. Given this mission, the car has been equipped with an assortment of carbon fiber components including a ventilated hood, roof and side skirt extensions. Besides the carbon fiber goodies, the RC F GT has a revised grille with updated air ducts. Other notable changes include the addition of a large rear wing, a new rear bumper and a small diffuser. Interestingly, the car has also been equipped with a modified front bumper and new headlights. We can also see restyled mirrors which echo those used on the LC 500. These changes suggest Lexus isn’t just working on the RC F GT, but a facelift for the entire RC lineup. Lexus hasn’t said much about the RC F GT lately, but the concept compet...

Facelifted Hyundai Elantra / Avante Shows Bold New Design Ahead Of Next Month’s Unveiling

Image
The facelifted Hyundai Elantra / Avante has been spied undisguised, ahead of its unveiling in South Korea next month. Looking far more radical than its predecessor, the updated model has been equipped with an all-new front fascia which eschews the gentle curves of the current model. The subtle styling cues are replaced by hard, angular lines and triangular shapes. The triangular styling can also been seen in the car’s new headlights which now extend into the grille. The latter has also been redesigned as it features a revised shape as well as slender horizontal bars. The sides remain largely the same, but the Elantra has been equipped with new taillights that have a more dynamic appearance. The rear bumper is also new and it includes a recessed area for the relocated license plate. While the pictures don’t give us a glimpse of the interior, Almuraba.net reports the car will have a new infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. We can a...

Audi SQ8 Caught Undisguised, Will Likely Feature 500 HP Hybrid V6

Image
This is the upcoming S version of the new Audi Q8, spotted free of camouflage during its late development stage. A recent report on the range-topping RS Q8 claimed that it will feature the same plug-in hybrid powertrain used by the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, where it makes 671 HP. That, however, would make it more powerful than the Lamborghini Urus, which, given that both companies fall under the VW Group umbrella, seems unlikely. Besides, Audi has teased the production SQ8 with the Q8 Sport Concept that was powered by a mild hybrid powertrain consisting of a 443hp 3.0-liter V6 TFSI hooked up with a 27hp electric motor, offering a total of 469hp (476PS) and 516lb-ft (700Nm) of torque – something that seems more plausible. The car will feature the brand’s 48-volt electrical architecture and a small lithium-ion battery pack mounted under the boot. The SQ8’s V6 engine is also expected to feature an electric compressor along with a traditional turbocharger, a technology...

2019 Mercedes GLE: Most Revealing Photos Give Us Our Best Look Yet

Image
A production-spec version of the new 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE has been photographed wearing a thin disguise that reveals many new details, including a better look at the front and a nearly unobstructed view of the rear and profile. We can’t shake this feeling of how much this prototype reminds us of the smaller GLC crossover. It’s a little more elegant, yes, but the overall shape is similar, as is the tailgate and even the taillight design. At the same time, the GLE’s rear lights seem to be less bulky with pointier endings than the GLC. The sharper front fascia incorporates a mixture of GLC and all-new CLS styling cues with extra large openings on the bumper, while on the sides, the new C-pillar of the Mercedes-Benz GLE looks very similar to the current generation. Below you also find two other prototypes (in red) that have been spied recently with light camo overalls. While at first they may seem identical, a closer look immediately points to them being different specs. The ...
