2020 Porsche Macan Turbo Has 435 HP And Hits 62 MPH In 4.3 Seconds

Image
The Porsche Macan Turbo is back for the 2020 model year following the unveiling of the updated Macan last year. Powering the previous Macan Turbo was a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 engine but that engine has been replaced with a smaller 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 delivering 434 hp from 5700 rpm and 6600 rpm and 405 lb-ft (549 Nm) of torque from 1800 rpm to 5600 rpm. Grunt is transmitted to the ground through a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission and Porsche Traction Management all-wheel drive. The German carmaker quotes a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of 4.3 seconds, three tenths quicker than the old car, and a top speed of 167 mph (270 km/h) with the available Sport Chrono Package. The 2020 Macan Turbo also packs some pretty potent brakes that use the Porsche Surface Coated technology complete with a tungsten carbide coating that offers a faster response, less wear, and up to 90 per cent less brake dust than conventional cast-iron brake discs. The SUV can be equipped...

All-New 2019 Ford Focus ST Breaks Cover With 280 PS 2.3L EcoBoost

Image
Following several test prototype sightings and no teasers whatsoever, Ford has lifted the veil off its all-new Focus ST hot hatch. Just like its predecessor, the new Focus ST is available with two engine and two body style flavors. The big news is the gasoline version ditches the 2.0-liter turbo-four for a larger, more powerful 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit that makes 280 PS (276 hp) at 5,500 rpm and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque from 3,000 rpm to 4,000 rpm. That’s 12 percent more power and 17 percent more torque compared with the previous Focus ST’s 2.0-liter gasoline unit. According to Ford, that results in a 0‑100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint of under 6 seconds. For the first time, the Focus ST benefits from an electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD) that improves traction and stability, as well as Selectable Drive Modes. The all-aluminum 2.3-liter unit benefits from lessons learned with the Ford GT supercar and F-150 Raptor pickup as it features anti-lag t...

Porsche’s Project Gold Is The 993 Turbo

Image
The wait is over and Porsche’s highly-desirable ‘Project Gold‘ 993 911 Turbo has premiered and could very well be one of the most desirable Porsches in recent years. To create this bespoke Turbo, the German manufacturer started with a 993 and stripped it back to its shell. Immediately after, the shell went through a process of corrosion protection and the same painting process that’s applied to modern-day Porsche vehicles. In fact, the car wears the same Golden Yellow Metallic paint as the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series. With the body fresh, Porsche went about installing a brand new 3.6-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine delivering 450 hp, exactly the same as the original 993 Turbo. From there, the manual transmission and all-wheel drive system of the original were sourced from Porsche Classic. To mark the car’s significance, it received a bespoke chassis number that immediately follows the number applied to the last series-production model of the 993 Turbo that was built in 1...

Renault-Nissan And Mercedes Unveil New 1.3-liter Turbo Petrol Engine

Image
Renault has introduced a new direct injection turbocharged petrol engine, available in a choice of three power levels, that was developed with the help of their Nissan and Mercedes partners. The unit will first hit the market next year on Scenic and Grand Scenic models, in TCe 115 manual, plus TCe 140 and TCe 160 manual or EDC automatic form. Later in the year, it will be progressively introduced in other Renault models. "Compared with the Energy TCe 130, the new Energy TCe 140 delivers 35 Nm additional peak torque which is available across a broader rev band, from 1,500 rpm to 3,500 rpm," said Alliance Global's, Philippe Brunet. Thanks to several Alliance-developed innovations, the new engine features Bore Spray Coating, a cylinder coating technology from the Nissan GT-R, which is said to improve efficiency by "reducing friction and optimizing heat transfer". It also has increased direct fuel injection pressure and a specific combustion chamber design ...

Audi Races To SEMA With TT Clubsport Turbo Concept And Sport Performance Parts

Image
The SEMA Show kicks off tomorrow and Audi of America will use the event to introduce a TT RS which has been equipped with an assortment of Audi Sport Performance Parts. Starting with the exterior, the model will have a handful of "aerodynamic enhancements" that have been developed in a wind tunnel. The company was coy on specifics but the images suggest the car will be identical to the one shown earlier this year. As a result, we can expect canards, carbon fiber air ducts, and a prominent rear wing. There should also be an assortment of carbon fiber components including mirror caps and a rear diffuser. On the handling front, the TT RS will have a two-way adjustable coilover suspension and additional chassis bracing. There will also be "brake system enhancements" and 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels with high-performance tires. Rounding out the changes are a titanium exhaust system and an upgraded interior with an Audi Sport Performance steering wheel. ...

New Porsche Cayenne Turbo Arrives At Frankfurt With Mind-Blowing Performance

Image
Porsche has uncovered the most extreme version of the new generation Cayenne yet, which bears the Turbo moniker. It uses the brand's 4-liter V8 biturbo engine that feeds 550PS (542hp) and 770Nm (568lb-ft) of torque to the wheels, through a new 8-speed Tiptronic S transmission. The new Porsche Cayenne Turbo is 30PS (30hp) and 20Nm (15lb-ft) of torque more powerful than its predecessor, and it takes 4.1 seconds to reach 100km/h (62mph) from a standstill, or just 3.9 seconds, when fitted with the optional Sport Chrono Package. Top speed stands at 286km/h (178mph). Said to combine the best of three worlds - "the precision of a sports car, the comfort of a saloon, and the adaptability of an off-road vehicle", the range-topping SUV benefits from an adaptive air suspension with three air chambers per strut, offering six height levels. These can be manually adjusted for different terrain conditions and can be also actively controlled via the five new driving mod...

Gemballa's Porsches Have What It Takes To Turn Heads Even At The Geneva Show

Image
Gemballa is back in Geneva this year doing what it does best: tuning Porsches. And it hasn't brought just one, or focused on one model, either. The tuner's lineup includes custom takes on the 911, Panamera, and even the Carrera GT. The big news is what Gemballa calls the Avalanche. It's based on the latest 911 Turbo, but upgrades in the most outlandish of style. Decked out in purple, the Gemballa Avalance wears new wide bodywork made entirely out of carbon fiber, broadening the Turbo's track by nearly two and a half inches at the front and four inches at the rear to house 21-inch wheels. Enhanced aerodynamics come along with those beefy fenders, but the real magic can be found in the engine bay, where Gemball's technicians have extracted 820 horsepower from the 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six. Performance figures, however, have not yet been released. Mistrale is what Gemballa calls its take on the Panamera, which features a comprehensive new aero kit and a ...

New Camaro Turbo AutoX And SS Slammer Concepts Join Chevy’s SEMA Stage

Image
Among the  myriad of Camaros  making their way to the Las Vegas strip for this year’s SEMA show are two concepts from Chevrolet named the Turbo AutoX and SS Slammer.  Starting with the Turbo AutoX, it’s based on the  2.0-liter turbocharged Camaro sporting  a hard-to-miss Shock Yellow paint-job complemented with Pearl Nickel hood stripes and satin Carbon Flash Metallic accents, with Chevy stating that it comes with “more agile handling that’s ideal for autocross enthusiasts.” The bow-tie brand says it improved the car’s roll stiffness and turn-in performance through a series of suspension upgrades. These include an available Chevrolet Performance lowering kit with stiffer springs and specifically tuned dampers that lower the ride height up to 0.75 inch (20mm), matched to conceptual parts, including a “plus performance” handling kit with larger stabilizer bars and stiffer suspension links, and a strut tower brace under the hood.  Other additions include a ...
