2021 Ram 1500 TRX Arrives With 702 HP

Image
Nearly four years after Ram unveiled the Rebel TRX concept, the company has introduced the production model. Billed as the fastest and most powerful mass production pickup, the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX features a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 702 hp (523 kW / 712 PS) and 650 lb-ft (880 Nm) of torque. The engine is paired to an upgraded eight-speed automatic transmission and an off-road focused four-wheel drive system.  This setup enables the truck to post some remarkable performance figures as the TRX hits 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.5 seconds and can run the quarter mile in 12.9 seconds at 108 mph (174 km/h).  Given enough room, the model will eventually hit a top speed of 118 mph (190 km/h). Of course, the engine is just part of the story as the Ram 1500 TRX is an off-road beast that features a host of other upgrades.  That’s clear from the outside as the model has 18-inch wheels that are wrapped in 35-inch Goodyear Territory all-terrain tires which were specially d...

2019 Ram HD Brings Up To 1,000 Lb-Ft Of Torque, Class-Leading Towing

Image
The all-new 2019 Ram Heavy Duty is finally here, and is billed as the most powerful and capable pickup in the segment. Ram backs these claims with the new model’s 35,100-lb (14,288-kg) towing capacity and a payload capacity of 7,680 lbs (3,483 kg). These impressive specs are made possible by the new 6.7-liter Cummins inline six-cylinder turbo diesel engine that produces 400 hp at 2,800 rpm and up 1,000 lb-ft (1,354 Nm) of torque at 1,800 rpm. There’s also a de-tuned version of the same power plant that delivers 370 hp at 2,800 rpm and 850 lb-ft (1,151 Nm) of torque at 1,700 rpm that’s available on the 2019 Ram 3500 HD. The standard engine in the 2019 Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty is the 6.4-liter Hemi V8 that makes 410 hp at 5,600 rpm and 429 lb-ft (581 Nm) of torque at 4,000 rpm. The top diesel engine comes mated to the Aisin AS69RC six-speed automatic transmission which is designed to handle the colossal torque of the six-cylinder unit and increased vehicle weig...

2019 Ram 1500 Packs Mild-Hybrid Powertrains Under New Metal

Image
It's a pickup truck bonanza this week under the roof of Detroit's Cobo Hall, where GM has introduced the new Chevy Silverado, Ford the new Ranger, and FCA the new Ram 1500. You can tell the new Ram is new just by looking at it. Gone, for example, is the crosshair grille that carried over from when it was still a line in the Dodge portfolio, and the bodywork looks altogether more modern and muscular. But there's a lot more going on with the new truck than some fresh sheetmetal. To start with, it's lighter than the model it replaces – nearly 225 pounds lighter, which means it can haul more and consume less fuel in the process. The new bodywork is also more aerodynamic, and even incorporates some adaptive aero in the form of a electrically deployable spoiler in the front bumper. More fuel economy gains will come from under the bulging hood, where the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 now delivers 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque, the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 a solid ...

Mopar Reveals Six Star Concepts For This Year's SEMA

Image
A few days ago, FCA teased some Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep and RAM models  ahead of their SEMA debut , and know it’s time to see what mods they bring to the table.  If you’re serious about modifying your car and then some, SEMA is the place to be – where aftermarket specialists come up with outrageous ideas, and car makers become tuners/customizers for a brief period of time. Chrysler couldn’t pass the opportunity to show off what it can accomplish with its Mopar brand, that’s why the American conglomerate brought three two Dodge models, two RAM vehicles, a Jeep, and a minivan. The latter  is a Chrysler Pacifica  Cadence that uses no less than 100 accessory parts from Mopar’s bin. It was created with an active lifestyle in mind (a paddleboarding theme, to be more precise), that’s why it sports Stow ‘n Go cargo bins, a Mopar/Thule paddleboard/surfboard carrier, and even a pet kennel. On the outside, its custom Mopar graphics wrap the quarter panels and rear-end, while t...

New Ram Rebel TRX Concept Is A Brutish 575HP Supercharged V8 Off-Road Beast

Image
While the heart of the automotive world beats today in France, Ram took  the chance to reveal  the Rebel TRX concept, the brand’s most extreme factory-engineered half-ton pickup ever.  Ram  installed a supercharged  6.2-litre V8 under the bonnet, providing a massive 575hp to all four wheels via a Torqueflite eight-speed automatic gearbox. The Rebel TRX concept is now able of triple digit speeds, even when traveling on surfaces other than paved roads.  In order to cope with the increased horsepower and become a true performance pickup truck, the new Rebel TRX concept features a Dynatrac Pro 60 rear axle with an electronically limited slip differential and 1.5-inch axle shafts. The front axle is a standard item, fitted with custom CV half-shafts to allow a wider track.  The suspension travel was increased by 40 percent and a set of 37-inch tires contribute to a massive ground clearance that measures more than 13 inches. RAM had to widen the body in or...
