Alfa Romeo Giulia And Stelvio QV Racing Editions Reflect Bond With F1

Image
After a quick preview earlier, Alfa Romeo is ready to show us more of the new Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio ‘Alfa Romeo Racing’ limited edition models, built with some help from Sauber Engineering. The Formula 1 outfit provided assistance with designing the exclusive carbon fiber Aero kit worn by the two vehicles, and then provided two F1 drivers to pose next to them in 2007 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen and 2019 rookie Antonio Giovinazzi. The changes aren’t just cosmetic, says the Italian automaker. They actually improve the aerodynamic performance of the two family cars by increasing downforce and enhancing their overall dynamic qualities. Other mods include the carbon fiber exterior details (including the roofs), Sparco leather and Alcantara sports seats with carbon shell, oversized brakes with carbon-ceramic discs, and custom Akrapovic titanium exhaust systems. Altogether, both cars weigh about 28 kg (61 lbs) less than their standard counterparts. Oh and the pai...

Next-Gen Jeep Grand Cherokee To Get Alfa Romeo Underpinnings

Image
FCA boss Sergio Marchionne has revealed that unless something unexpected happens, the next-generation  Jeep Grand Cherokee  will use the same Giorgio platform as the Alfa Romeo Giulia and  Stelvio . During an interview with  Autocar  at the Detroit Auto Show, Marchionne said that a feasibility study was currently being completed into the viability of building the new  Grand Cherokee  on the Giorgio platform and that if all goes well, an Alfa-based Jeep will hit the market in 2018 or 2019. “The most natural application of a further evolution of the Alfa Romeo platform is the Grand Cherokee. We’re finishing off the study now, but I’m going on the basis of the latest information, which is that it will be the basis upon which the Grand Cherokee will be developed, unless something happens in the next 60 days that suggests it isn’t doable. “That would really complete the story of architectural development for us because I think it would certainly nail in ...

Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV Makes A Brief Pass In Official Video

Image
With the countdown to the  new Stelvio SUV’s  world premiere at the  2016 LA Auto Show in mid-November  officially on, Alfa Romeo is getting ready to begin production at the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Cassino Assembly Plant. A new FCA video showcasing the factory that also manufacturers Alfa’s Giulietta compact hatch and new Giulia sedan gave us a (deliberately?) quick glimpse of the Stelvio on the assembly line.  The design of  Alfa’s first true SUV  seems to be more in the mold of the BMW X4 and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe than the X3 and GLC, but at the end of the day, it will compete with all compact premium crossovers, including the Jaguar F-Pace, Porsche Macan and Audi Q5, regardless of the shape of their roof.  The front end styling won’t be the only common element between Tipo 949 codenamed Alfa and the Giulia saloon, as the two models will share interior bits - as  seen in recent spy shots , platform and engine range, including a...

Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV Shows Off Silhouette Before LA Auto Show

Image
Prior to its world debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 15th, a teaser image of the upcoming  Alfa Romeo Stelvio  SUV has been released. Revealing the silhouette of the Italian company's very first SUV, the teaser doesn't show much. Nevertheless, the steeply raked windscreen, bulging front quarter panels/headlights and the sleek tailgate do preview the model's sporty persona. While further specifics about the  vehicle's design  aren't known, much of it styling inspiration will come from the Giulia sedan. That will of course include the firm's customary triangular front grille and in all likelihood, headlights and taillights similar to those of the Giulia. Interestingly, the SUV pictured in the teaser isn't sporting a tailgate spoiler as some renderings have suggested, indicating such a feature may only come on performance-oriented models. Speaking of performance, the Stelvio is also expected to draw on the Giulia in that regard. In fact, the ran...

Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV To Debut At Los Angeles Auto Show

Image
Alfa Romeo has confirmed that its very first SUV, dubbed the Stelvio,  will debut  at November's Los Angeles Auto Show. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio will be the second model in the company's expanded product range, following on from the Giulia sedan, and be underpinned by a tweaked version of the platform found under its five-door sibling. Both rear- and all-wheel drive variants can be expected as can a  similar range of engine s to the Giulia. That means the upcoming 2.2-liter diesel from Alfa Romeo will be available as will a 2.0-liter petrol delivering either 200 hp, 250 hp or 280 hp depending on spec. As with the Giulia, the engine line-up will be topped out by the firm's twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 engine delivering up to 500 hp in Stelvio QV guise. Auto Express  hints that there's a possibility future variants will also use some form of electrification. On a styling front, it is reasonable to assume that many of the design traits from the Giulia will be carried...

Alfa Romeo Stelvio CUV to debut at 2016 LA Auto Show

Image
America loves  crossovers .  Alfa Romeo  wants to succeed in America. So it only makes sense that the troubled Italian automaker will introduce its first ever  CUV  on American soil. That's per a report  from Australia's  Motoring , which claims we'll clap eyes on the  Stelvio  for the first time this November in Los Angeles. The news was announced by Alfa Romeo and  Maserati  boss Harald Wester, who said it'd be a late fall debut, according to  Motoring . That almost certainly means the mid-November to-do in LA. "We will have an additional product in the [CUV] segment with the new Alfa, to be presented in late Autumn this year, and for the time being there are no plans for Maserati to further extend our range downwards in the more compact SUV segment," Wester told  Motoring . The Stelvio – the name was confirmed by  FCA  boss  Sergio Marchionne  last month and comes from the iconic Italian pass and ...
