All-New DS 4 Debuts With Striking Looks, And An Interior That Demands Your Attention

Image
DS Automobiles has revealed the new 2020 DS 4, a premium hatchback that will come in two flavors, targeting the likes of the Audi A3 and the Mercedes A-Class, as well as a few crossovers like the Mercedes GLA and the Lexus UX. The all-new DS 4 is based on the also new EMP2 platform, featuring a striking exterior design with pretty nice proportions inspired by the company’s Aero Sport Lounge concept. “DS 4 was conceived to redefine the outline of the Premium C segment,” said Marion David, Product Director at DS Automobiles. “It’s aimed at customers attracted by two body shapes: the new aspirational CoupĂ©-SUV and the traditional compact hatchback. At every stage of its design, the idea of appealing to these two segments drove our decisions.” The DS 4 features the company’s new DS Matrix LED Vision headlights, which are said to combine matrix and directional lighting, complemented by two S-shaped rows of LEDs on each side acting as daytime running lights. The doors come with flush-fitting...

DS Aero Sport Lounge Is An Electric Coupe-SUV From The Future With 670 HP

Image
Designed to optimize air flow, the 5-meter (196.0-in) long coupe-SUV concept features a grille shaped to direct air to the sides and pass it to the specially-styled 23-inch wheels. Other highlights include the screen in the grille that hides away an array of sensors, LED headlights and DRLs, as well as the ‘DS Light Veil’ illuminated sheets that preview the company’s future design signature. Inside, the Aero Sport Lounge adopts a very bold approach. For starters, it has two wide strips that replace the traditional screens; the lower one, clad in satin cotton, is used to display the information projected from the one above. Each occupant has their own screen to keep them busy on long journeys, with another pair of displays relaying live footage from the digital mirrors. The instrument cluster was replaced by a head-up display that uses augmented reality to project the information onto the windscreen, and the car also has an artificial intelligence system named Iris and hapti...

DS3 Crossback Goes Official With Petrol, Diesel And EV Powertrains

Image
DS has officially unveiled the all-new DS3 Crossback. Featuring “distinctive sculptural styling,” the crossover has a prominent grille which is flanked by DS Matrix LED Vision headlights and vertical LED daytime running lights. The Crossback also has plastic body cladding, a relatively flat roof and a controversial ‘wave’ accent near the B-pillar. While the styling won’t win everyone over, the model has flush-mounted door handles which are similar to the ones used on the Range Rover Velar. They automatically deploy when the crossover is unlocked and then retract when the vehicle is locked. Moving into the cabin, drivers will find a digital instrument cluster, a head-up display and a 10.3-inch infotainment system. Other highlights include a flat-bottomed steering wheel, diamond-shaped air vents and a 12-speaker Focal audio system. DS didn’t say much else about the interior, but the boot holds 12.4 cubic feet (352 liters) of luggage and the company paid particular att...

New DS3 Crossback Teased Ahead Of Thursday Unveiling

Image
DS Automobiles will reveal its latest product this Thursday, on September 13, at the DS Design Studio in Paris. The event will be streamed over the web, and one teaser image released on social media appears to shed some light on the case. The French upmarket brand will most likely reveal the DS3 Crossback, their smallest crossover to date, which according to a set of leaked patent images, looks pretty much like a smaller DS7 Crossback. In these patent images, the DS3 Crossback’s design is very much DS-ish, with lots of curves and trademark detailing, creating a small SUV that looks ready to take on the Mini Countryman and Audi Q2. DS’ designers have went for a very funky cabin too, featuring diamond-shaped details. Elsewhere, the interior of the new crossover will feature a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel and floating-style infotainment system, at a first glance. Beneath the skin lies the CMP architecture that will underpin the next generation Peugeot 208. It all...

DS E-Tense FE 19 Looks The Most Batmobile-Like Yet

Image
A lot of cars get compared to the batmobile. Pretty much anything that looks cool and is painted black. Matte black especially. So we’re not going to draw that comparison, but Formula E will. In revealing its new Gen2 car, the racing series referred to its “batmobile-like bodywork.” And we’re not inclined to disagree, but DS Automobiles (the premium offshoot from CitroĂ«n) has taken it a step even further. The French automaker is the latest to have revealed its take on the next-generation electric racer, and it’s decked out in matte black and gold. Less like some Mansory monstrosity, and more like… well, the Batmobile. With some of Bruce Wayne’s gold thrown in. Of course, the paintjob isn’t the only thing the PSA brand has imbued on the Spark chassis. The engineers in the DS Performance division have drawn on their three years of experience in the series to develop the new DS E-Motor 19 powertrain, the transmission and cooling system to go with it, their accompanying electro...

New DS 7 Crossback SUV Launched Ahead Of Geneva Premiere

Image
DS Automobiles is looking to take a major step towards luxury, comfort and autonomous driving with the brand new DS 7 Crossback. In terms of styling, the automaker wanted to make the DS 7 Crossback instantly recognizable, both from the front as well as from the rear, regardless of time of day. In order to achieve this, an emphasis was placed on the light signature, as the LED modules of the DS Active LED Vision headlights resemble faceted jewels, emitting a purple light when the car is unlocked, before pivoting 180°. The light signature is further emphasized by the vertical beads of the DRLs, working together with the scrolling indicators, whereas for the rear, each light is a full LED made from illuminated scales. "At all stages of the design process, the guiding aim for DS 7 Crossback was to express refinement excellence and the best know-how implemented to the highest standards. The result is there to see, with an ideally proportioned car brimming with personality. It...
