Over half a million Hyundai and Kia models are being recalled in the United States due to faulty brake lights. According to The Detroit News, 390,000 Hyundai Elantras built between 2013 and 2014, and over 134,000 Kia Fortes from 2012 through 2014, have been recalled as the brake lights may not go out when the pedal is released. Government documents reveal that the polymer stopper pad between the brake pedal arm and the light switch can deteriorate, thus allowing the switch to stay on even when the pedal isn’t depressed. This fault also means the driver can shift out of Park without applying the brakes. To fix the issue, dealerships will replace the brake stopper pad. Kia’s recall will commence on January 30 while Hyundai’s will kick off on February 8. Carscoops

Bugatti has announced a recall of 47 examples of the 1,500 hp Chiron hypercar, 12 of which reside in the United States. In what is just the latest example of high-priced exotics not being immune to recalls, Bugatti recently informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that a number of Chirons have faulty welds in the front seat recliner brackets. The French automaker says it has notified all the affected owners and will transport each Chiron via enclosed truck to the most convenient Bugatti dealerships for inspections. If inspections reveal a faulty weld, Bugatti will replace the entire seating assembly. Although deliveries of the Chiron commenced quite some time ago, the road is far from over for the car. Bugatti is widely expected to announce the Chiron’s top speed sometime in 2018 but it remains to be seen if it will top the 277.9 mph top speed record recently set by the Koenigsegg Agera RS. Mercedes-Benz has announced the recall of nearly half a million vehicles across the United States due to a problem with their airbags. According to the recall notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the driver's airbag could unexpectedly deploy under certain conditions – but only if two problems arise at the same time, and apparently owing nothing to the massive Takata recall we'd associate with this kind of problem. If the air bag clockspring is broken, and an electrostatic discharge occurs, then the airbag in the steering wheel could deploy accidentally. That doesn't strike us as a scenario likely to happen very often. But since the deployment of the airbag could be disruptive, to say the least, it's probably a good thing that Mercedes is calling in any vehicles that could be affected.
