Aston Martin Reveals Production-Spec Valhalla With 937 HP Hybrid V8

Image
Aston Martin has finally revealed the production version of the Valhalla, a hybrid mid-engine supercar that pairs a 4.0-liter V8 with two electric motors to give it a combined output of 937 hp (950 PS/698 kW). The British brand calls the car a huge step forward for the company and a transformational moment. Joining the growing class of hybrid supercars, the Valhalla will look to turn Aston Martin’s fortunes. The brand is quick to clarify that although the new car will be a technological marvel, putting the driver at the center of the experience between the various motors. Kicking things off is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo flat-plane crank V8 engine, sourced from Mercedes-AMG. On its own, it develops a pretty impressive 739 hp (750 PS/551 kW) at 7,200 RPM and drives the rear axle. The engine is aided by a pair of electric motors at each axle. In all, the hybrid system adds 201 hp (204 PS/150 kW) to the experience. The car can drive on electricity alone, in which case the power is all sent to ...

Porsche Unveils New 911 RSR GTE With 4.2-Liter Flat-Six

Image
Porsche has taken off the covers to the all-new 911 RSR GTE racer at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The new Porsche 911 RSR GTE will compete in the 2019-2020 FIA World Endurance Championship set to kick off at Silverstone on September 1st and will then become available to customer teams for the 2020-2021 season. It may look similar to the outgoing RSR GTE, but 95 per cent of its parts are brand new. The most significant change is the fitment of a bespoke 4.2-liter naturally aspirated flat-six that pumps out 507 HP. This is the largest capacity engine fitted to a 911 racer ever and replaces the outgoing 4.0-liter unit. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential transmission with a three-disc carbon race clutch. The new RSR even features side-exiting exhausts, which allowed for the design of a more effective rear diffuser, thus generating greater downforce. Like its predecessor, the new RSR GTE features an aluminum-steel composite body shell and carbon fiber...

It Is Alive: Lexus Shows Off Thinly Veiled LC Convertible Prototype

Image
The Lexus LC Convertible is making its world debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it will run up the hill in the hands of professional racing driver Nick Cassidy, who competes in Japan’s Super GT500 championship. Covered in a thin layer of camouflage that tries to conceal some of the final item’s details, the LC Convertible was previewed by a concept car at the 2019 NAIAS. It retains the proportions and styling of the Coupe, the only change being the electrically operated soft top that substitutes the fixed roof. “The Goodwood Festival of Speed celebrates the history and culture of the automobile and serves as a gathering place for some of history’s most notable cars and drivers”, said the company’s international executive VP, Koji Sato. “Lexus is honored to join this festival, and I could not be happier to unveil this prototype model of the LC Convertible at the same venue where the LC Coupe made its debut in 2016.” Toyota’s luxury brand will announce the exact u...

De Tomaso Back In Business With The P72

Image
Guess who’s back? That’s right – the name behind some hugely desirable cars such as the Pantera and the Mangusta is being brought back to life just in time for its 60th anniversary. To celebrate its triumphant return, De Tomaso has released images and preliminary details of its all-new car called “P72” set to pick up where the P70 left off. First, some background. Back in the early 1960s, company founder Alejandro de Tomaso teamed up with none other than Carroll Shelby to work on the P70 – a name derived from Prototipi and the engine’s massive 7.0-liter displacement. The plan was for Alejandro to engineer the car with a modified version of the 4.7-liter Ford V8 engine, Carroll Shelby to provide the necessary budget, and Peter Brock to handle the design. In case the latter’s name doesn’t ring a bell, he was responsible for the design of important cars like the Shelby Daytona Coupe and the Chevy Corvette Stingray. Due to tensions between Alejandro and Shelby, the P70 project...

New Mercedes-AMG A 45 And CLA 45 Pack Supercar Performance In A Compact Body

Image
Mercedes has finally pulled the covers off the new A45 and CLA45 AMG models at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The new baby AMG models arrive with some seriously impressive figures that are set to redefine their class; both are powered by the turbocharged 2.0-liter M139 four-cylinder engine with up to 415hp (421PS), a 0-62mph (100km/h) in as little as 3.9 seconds and a headline-grabbing Drift mode. As before, customers will get to choose between two versions; the basic 45 model, which offers 382hp (387PS) and 354lb-ft (480Nm) of torque, and the more powerful 45 S with its 415hp (421PS) and 368lb-ft of torque. All models come fitted with the new eight-speed AMG Speedshift dual-clutch transmission and the fully variable Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system. The basic A 45 model can achieve a 0-62mph (100km/h) in 4 seconds flat (CLA 45 in 4.1 sec) while the A 45 S requires just 3.9 seconds for the same procedure (CLA 45 S in 4.0 sec). Top speed for the basic 45 models is...

Ford GT Mk2 Track-Only Supercar Launched With Huge Aero Tweaks, 700 HP

Image
We already knew that a new version of the Ford GT was coming at Goodwood – and this is it: the Mk2, an enhanced version of the racer that cannot be driven on public roads – nor any existing series, for that matter. The Blue Oval is asking $1.2 million (€1.063 million at current exchange rates) for each of the 45 units it will put together. In return for spending the 7-digit sum, customers get the track-only supercar that’s been developed by Ford Performance and its engineering partner Multimatic with aerodynamic upgrades and more power. The 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 has been tuned to deliver 700 horsepower. That’s 200 hp more than the racer that is constrained by racing regulations, and makes the Mk2 the most powerful version of the GT yet. The unit is paired to the same 7-speed, dual-clutch transmission, albeit with a few changes to cope with the extra output. Engine cooling has been enhanced by the addition of the air-to-air outboard mounted charge air cooler with water spray...

BAC Mono R Is An All-New $240,000 Take On The Single-Seater Supercar

Image
The BAC Mono has just received the most important update since its launch in 2011. It’s called the Mono R and BAC says it’s all-new, though it looks very much like an evolution of the single-seater supercar. Described as a higher-performance, lighter and more advanced new generation of the iconic Mono, the GEN2 model is 35 hp more powerful and 25 kg (55 lbs) lighter than the standard Mono. With 340 hp (345 PS) and 555 kg (1,224 lbs), it offers a stunning power-to-weight ratio of 612 hp-per-tonne. Additionally, the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter engine co-developed with Mountune claims the highest normally aspirated specific output of all time for a road-legal model, at 136 hp per liter. BAC says all the Mono R’s surfaces have been designed from scratch and 44 bespoke carbon parts have been restyled to give the car “a more aggressive, organic and futuristic stance.” Design highlights include the new shark nose front, centrally mounted LED headlights, a Formula-inspired ram-ai...

Evija Name Confirmed For Lotus’ New Electric Hypercar

Image
Lotus has used the Goodwood Festival of Speed to announce its upcoming hypercar will be called the Evija. Previously known as the Type 130, the Evija name is pronounced “ev-eye-a” and means “the first in existence” or “the living one.” Lotus says this makes the moniker “highly appropriate” as the Evija will become the first electric hypercar from a British automaker. The Evija will go into production next year and the company says it will open an “exciting new chapter in the history of the iconic British sports car brand.” The automaker also noted the car is the first major new model to be launched under Geely ownership and hinted this “significance cannot be overstated.” The company has been tight-lipped about specifics, but the car will be unveiled at special event in London later this month. In the meantime, the company has released a new teaser video which shows the model will have a slender center console with hexagonal buttons to start the car and shift the transmission ...

2019 Ultima RS Has Up To 1,200 HP And Is Coming To Goodwood

Image
Ultima has long been building some of the most remarkable kit cars ever, and has just unveiled its latest model. Dubbed the RS, it is set to be unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and, like Ultima models, will be sold in a number of configurations. The small car manufacturer has engineered the RS’ chassis to fit all current LT V8 engines from Chevrolet, starting with the 480 HP LT1. Should customers want even greater performance, they can opt for the 650 HP LT4 from the Z06, or the supercharged 6.2-liter LT5 used in the current ZR1 modified to deliver 800 HP. For the ultimate in performance, Ultima (natch) even offers a 1,200 HP upgrade pack for the LT5. You know, so that you can make LaFerraris eat your dust once the lights turn green… The RS tips the scales at a featherweight 930 kg (2050 lbs), depending on the powertrain and options selected. Hence, Ultima says the entry-level LT1-powered version can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.0 seconds, 100 mph (160 km/h) in just 6....

McLaren To Unveil 18 New Models, Including P1 Successor, Until 2025

Image
At Goodwood, McLaren has announced its new Track25 business plan, aimed at taking the British automaker well into the next decade. Among the milestones set by the Track25 roadmap is to ensure that McLaren’s entire sports car and supercar range will feature hybrid power within the next seven years, among them a new Ultimate Series that will succeed the petrol-electric P1. McLaren will also evaluate new augmented driving features in order to develop a lighter, superfast-charging, high-power battery system for performance applications, expected to offer more than 30 minutes of electric range around a race track. The soon-to-open McLaren Composites Technology Center (MCTC) will be where the automaker will develop and manufacture lightweight technology. Once operational, the MCTC will ensure that roughly 57% of vehicle content by value will be UK-sourced. Mostly, though, the focus will be to develop 18 new models or derivatives that should lift production by almost 75%, meaning b...

700 HP Ford Eagle Squadron Mustang GT Debuts At Goodwood

Image
Ford has unveiled the Eagle Squadron Mustang GT at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Designed to pay tribute to the Eagle Squadron and the Royal Air Force’s 100th anniversary, the one-off model was jointly developed with professional drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr. His involvement in the project is clearly visible as the car has been equipped with an RTR carbon fiber widebody kit. The changes don’t stop there as the Mustang has a front spoiler, canards and an RTR illuminated grille. Designers also installed aerodynamic side skirts and a Gurney flap on the existing rear spoiler. Lastly, the car was given an eye-catching camouflage exterior which draws inspiration from the Spitfire fighters used by the Eagle Squadron. Drivers will find a custom leather interior with Recaro racing seats featuring embroidered Eagle Squadron logos. Other unique touches include a hand-engraved shift knob made from F-35 Lightning parts and a hand-engraved badge featuring aluminum sourced from a Spitfire. ...

Lanzante Shows Off The McLaren P1 GT Ahead Of Its Official Debut

Image
It’s hard to believe the final McLaren P1 was built back in 2015, but the model is once again in the spotlight as Lanzante has released the first pictures of the P1 GT. Set to debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the P1 GT is a beautiful hypercar that features a dark green exterior with a prominent carbon fiber front splitter. The car has also been equipped with additional vents, a larger roof-mounted intake and a massive rear wing. Other changes include the addition of a four-tailpipe exhaust system and a modified rear diffuser. Moving into the cabin, we can see a unique carbon fiber steering wheel with green leather grips. Additional changes are hard to spot but the GT has two-tone seats, green door pulls and a special badge on the driver’s side. The GT appears to be based on the P1 GTR which featured a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine with 789 hp (588 kW / 800 PS). The car was also equipped with a lightweight electric motor that contributed an additional 197 hp (...

New Noble M500 Premieres At Goodwood With Ford GT Engine

Image
The small British sports car manufacturer Noble is looking to extend its family with a new model called the M500. The new M500 will be positioned under the M600, which has been around since 2010, as Noble’s new entry-level model. This means that Noble’s new baby will be more affordable than the M600. The latter costs approximately £300,000 ($397,227) in the United Kingdom. The new Noble M500 might look ready to hit showrooms, but it’s not actually a working car, but rather a full-scale model that lacks an interior. The company’s director, Peter Boutwood, who’s also the person behind the design of the new product, says the M500 is currently in its early stages of development. It might not have a full interior just yet, but the Noble M500 is powered by the same twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine as the modern day Ford GT. Exact details about the powertrain are scarce at the moment, but it’s said to generate roughly 550PS (542hp / 404kW), and channel them to the rear...

BMW M Performance Parts Concept Is A Lightweight M2 Designed For Goodwood

Image
The Goodwood Festival of Speed kicks off tomorrow and BMW celebrating this year’s event by unveiling the M Performance Parts concept. Based on the M2, the concept is a track-focused model that features optimized aerodynamics and a weight reduction of more than 132 lbs (60 kg). As the name suggests, the concept has been equipped with an assortment of M Performance Parts including a carbon fiber grille, hood and front fender vents. That’s just the tip of the iceberg as designers also installed carbon fiber winglets up front and on the sides of the vehicle. Other carbon fiber components include the roof, tailgate and rear diffuser. Sticking with the outside with the vehicle, the concept rides on 19-inch M Performance wheels which feature a Frozen Gold finish.  The color is visible elsewhere as designers added bright accents to the grille, sides and rear diffuser. Moving into the cabin, the concept has M Performance carbon fiber sport seats which have Alcantara u...
