After months of teasing, Aston Martin has finally confirmed the Valkyrie’s naturally-aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine will produce a staggering 1,000 hp (745 kW / 1,013 PS). Jointly developed with Cosworth, the V12 is being billed as the “ultimate expression of the internal combustion engine.” It’s hard to argue with that sentiment as the engine revs to a ridiculous 11,100 RPM and develops 153.8 hp (114.7 kW / 155.9 PS) per liter. Those are some pretty impressive numbers, but the engine is surprisingly light on torque as it peaks at 545 lb-ft (740 Nm). Of course, those specifications don’t tell the whole story as the Valkyrie will be “further boosted by a battery hybrid system.” Aston Martin is keeping details under wraps, but previous reports have suggested the model will have a combined output of 1,130 hp (842 kW / 1,145 PS). Hennessey has used Monterey Car Week to unveil the engine that will power the Venom F5. Since the company has previously said the F5 aims to become the “first road car capable of achieving more than 300 mph (482 km/h),” it needs a massive engine with huge performance numbers. That’s exactly what was unveiled today as the engine is a twin-turbo 7.6-liter V8 that is capable of producing more than 1,600 hp (1,193 kW / 1,622 PS) and 1,300 lb-ft (1,760 Nm) torque. To put those numbers into perspective, the Bugatti Divo has a quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine which produces 1,479 hp (1,103 kW / 1,500 PS) and – presumably – 1,180 lb-ft (1,600 Nm) of torque. However, that particular car will be limited to 236 mph (380 km/h). Getting back to the Venom F5, the engine is made from a billet aluminum block and features steel cylinder sleeves as well as a 9.3:1 compression ratio. Meet the very first four-cylinder engine in the history of the Silverado nameplate, which for 2019, comes with six total engine/transmission combinations. The all-new 310 HP 2.7-liter turbo petrol replaces the 4.3-liter V6 as the standard power unit on LT and new RST specs. It’s said to offer 22% more torque and better fuel economy. Renault has introduced a new direct injection turbocharged petrol engine, available in a choice of three power levels, that was developed with the help of their Nissan and Mercedes partners. The unit will first hit the market next year on Scenic and Grand Scenic models, in TCe 115 manual, plus TCe 140 and TCe 160 manual or EDC automatic form. Later in the year, it will be progressively introduced in other Renault models. "Compared with the Energy TCe 130, the new Energy TCe 140 delivers 35 Nm additional peak torque which is available across a broader rev band, from 1,500 rpm to 3,500 rpm," said Alliance Global's, Philippe Brunet. The Chevrolet Camaro news continues as General Motors has taken the wraps off the 2018 COPO Camaro. Set to be shown at SEMA later this month, the updated model can be equipped with an all-new 302 Gen V Small Block engine. Chevrolet declined to release performance specifications but said the engine is based on the 6.2-liter LT1 V8 that resides in the road-going Camaro SS. Despite the similarities, the engine has been built specifically for drag racing and it features unique components including a shorter-stroke crankshaft that allows for "exceptional high-rpm capability." Customers can also choose to equip their COPO Camaro with either a naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V8 or a supercharged 5.7-liter V8 that allows the car to run the quarter-mile in the mid-8-second range. Joining the V12-powered DB11 that was launched last year, and the newer AMG V8-powered model, this third member of the DB11 family features a fabric roof, available in a choice of Bordeaux red, black silver, and grey silver. The soft-top has new acoustic and insulation materials, and 8-layer roof cossets, that keep occupants away from the wind noise and unpleasant weather. It takes 14 seconds to lower and 16 seconds to raise, and it can be operated at speeds of up to 31mph (50km/h). Aston Martin promises that the new roof mechanism is as reliable as they come, after testing it to the extremes in special weather conditions, where it was subjected to more than 100,000 cycles, thus compressing 10 years of use into one month. Mercedes-AMG has released one final teaser image of its Project One hypercar before the Frankfurt Motor Show. This teaser is the most revealing to date and shows off most of the F1-powered road car’s rear-end. As previous images have revealed, the Project One will feature a large roof scoop while it’ll ditch a rear window in favor of two massive NACA ducts and air vents over the Formula One-derived 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 engine. Elsewhere, the teaser offers a glimpse of the hypercar’s taillights and just like a current Formula One car, it features a single central exhaust pipe and two smaller exhausts dedicated for the wastegates. As we’ve known for some time, the Project One’s F1 engine will be mated to the same energy recovery systems as the race car. Singer Vehicle Design announced its collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering for new air-cooled flat-six engines. The first engine to come out of this collaboration will be a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter that can rev over 9,000rpm, featuring four-valve heads, titanium con-rods, aluminum throttle bodies with carbon fiber trumpets, a carbon air box, an titanium-Inconel exhaust system and a 500hp rating, matching essentially the latest -but water-cooled- 911 GT3. The project even has legendary Porsche engineer Hanz Mezger on board, acting as a technical consultant. The engine is basically a heavily modified version of a 1990 3.6-liter unit but that sounds like an understatement. Details about the powertrains of Lamborghini’s much awaited Urus were revealed by the company’s boss, Stephano Domenicali. Domenicali said during an interview with AutoNews that the 2018 Lamborghini Urus will be powered by a 650hp twin-turbo V8 as standard, with a plug-in hybrid model to follow a year after the car’s official launch. Lamborghini plans to build 1,000 units of the Urus in 2018 and 3,500 annually starting from 2019. Domenicali said that if demand proves to be higher, the production rate could grow as well. The new model is expected to be revealed towards the end of the year at Lamborghini’s factory in Sant’ Agata. The new Urus will be produced there, alongside the Huracan and the Aventador. Toyota has confirmed that its performance-oriented variant of the Yaris hatchback will receive a 1.8-liter supercharged four-cylinder. Prior to the model’s Geneva Motor Show debut, the Japanese marque has also confirmed that it will be dubbed the Yaris GRMN, which curiously stands for ‘Gazoo Racing Masters of the Nurburgring’. Looking beyond the strange name, the engine is expected to be the real selling-point of the souped-up Yaris. Toyota’s official word is that it will produce over 205 hp meaning it should prove the perfect rival to the all-new Ford Fiesta ST, also bowing in Geneva. Powered by a new twin-turbocharged V8, the second-generation McLaren Super Series will hit a standing 1/4 mile in the low 10s.
