McLaren Unveils New 754 HP 765LT Spider As Its Most Powerful Convertible Yet

Image
McLaren has taken the wraps off its most powerful, most aerodynamic convertible to date, the 765LT Spider. The highly limited “long tail” model will be made to order and will deliver enormous driver engagement, always according to the manufacturer. Power comes from McLaren’s familiar twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8, with the new 765LT Spider making 754 hp (765 PS/562 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque (though that might be a conservative estimate). That’s enough to get it off the line and up to 60 mph (96.5 km/h) in just 2.7 seconds (0-100 km/h in 2.8). Thanks to the engine and a transmission that’s optimized for driver engagement, the 765LT Spider offers 15% faster in-gear acceleration than the 720S Spider, meaning it can hit 124 mph (200 km/h) in just 7.2 seconds. McLaren has also worked hard to ensure that the strengthening that goes into making a convertible hasn’t added too much weight. Thanks to the advanced carbon fiber construction already employed for the coupe version of the 765LT,...

Aston Martin Reveals Production-Spec Valhalla With 937 HP Hybrid V8

Image
Aston Martin has finally revealed the production version of the Valhalla, a hybrid mid-engine supercar that pairs a 4.0-liter V8 with two electric motors to give it a combined output of 937 hp (950 PS/698 kW). The British brand calls the car a huge step forward for the company and a transformational moment. Joining the growing class of hybrid supercars, the Valhalla will look to turn Aston Martin’s fortunes. The brand is quick to clarify that although the new car will be a technological marvel, putting the driver at the center of the experience between the various motors. Kicking things off is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo flat-plane crank V8 engine, sourced from Mercedes-AMG. On its own, it develops a pretty impressive 739 hp (750 PS/551 kW) at 7,200 RPM and drives the rear axle. The engine is aided by a pair of electric motors at each axle. In all, the hybrid system adds 201 hp (204 PS/150 kW) to the experience. The car can drive on electricity alone, in which case the power is all sent to ...

The 770-HP Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae Is The Swan Song For Lamborghini’s Flagship Supercar

Image
After 10 years, the Lamborghini Aventador’s run has come to an end. The Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae will be the supercar’s final iteration, after which a new flagship will succeed it. Just 600 units of the Ultimae will be built, 350 coupes and 250 roadsters. Seeing as this car is meant to be the grand finale of the traditional V12 combustion engine, Lamborghini has set out to make the Ultimae the ultimate Aventador in every sense. To do that, they combined the more reserved styling cues of the Aventador S with the insane performance of the SVJ, leading to the definitive all-round Lamborghini supercar. The Aventador Ultimae’s 6.5-liter V12 that revs to 8,700 rpm produces 770 hp (780 PS / 574 kW) and 531 lb-ft (720 Nm) of torque, which is 39 hp (40 PS / 29 kW) more than the S and 10 hp (10 PS / 7 kW) more than even the SVJ. As a result of those uprated figures and various weight saving measures, the car weighs 55 lb (25 kg) less than the S and has the same power-to-weight ratio as the SVJ....

New Ferrari 296 GTB Brings Back V6 With A Turbocharged Hybrid Twist And 819-HP

Image
The times they are a-chargin’. With an eye into the future, Ferrari has introduced its first six-cylinder engine on a road-going model since the seventies, the new 296 GTB. Designed to slot into the range above the F8 Tributo, Ferrari says it’s ‘the most fun to drive car in our product range’. Called the 296 GTB, the new car swaps the F8’s turbocharged eight-cylinder engine for a hybridised V6, making this Ferrari’s first six-cylinder sports car since the Dino 246 (which didn’t actually wear Ferrari badges). It will cost €269,000 (equivalent to $321,000/£231,000), and the first cars should be with European customers in early 2022, with U.S. cars arriving later that year. But if you’re worried about the loss of two cylinders resulting in a drop in performance, you can rest easy. The 2.9-liter 120-degree V6 gasoline engine alone makes 654 hp, giving 218 hp per liter, which, says Ferrari, is the highest specific output of any production car on sale. Add in the electric motor and you’ve go...

New Rimac Nevera Takes Electric Supercars By Storm With 1,914HP, 0-62mph In 1.85 sec And 340 Miles Range

Image
Rimac Automobili has revealed the final production version of the C_Two electric hypercar, which is now renamed Nevera and features a number of upgrades over the original 2018 concept. The new Nevera fittingly bears a Croatian name given by the locals to an unexpected and powerful Mediterranean storm. Compared to the concept, the new Rimac Nevera features a wide range of changes to its bodywork and aero agenda, delivering a 34 percent improvement in aerodynamic efficiency. Rimac has altered things like the profile of the bonnet, the shape of the pillars, and the design of the diffusers, splitters, and radiators, in order to improve airflow and downforce. In addition, the redesigned inlets and cooling channels have increased the cooling efficiency by 30 percent of both the brake and powertrain systems at low speeds, and by 7 percent at high speeds. But perhaps the most impressive feature of the bodywork is the numerous active aero elements that allow the new Rimac Nevera to switch from ...

Touring Unveils Its First Mid-Engined Car, The Ferrari-Powered Arese RH95

Image
After some teasing, we finally know what the Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera Arese RH95 will look like and what kind of performance it will have. Although Touring has not yet revealed what car the Arese RH95 is based on, its V8 engine makes the same amount of power as the twin-turbocharged Ferrari F8 Tributo: 710 hp (720 PS) at 8,000 rpm and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque from 3,250 rpm, which are channeled to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The sprint from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) is handled in 3.0 seconds flat and it can run all the way up 205 mph (330 km/h). Despite being the first mid-engined car Touring has ever produced, the design does incorporate classic elements from the coachbuilder’s past. The beltline, for instance, was inspired by the Disco Coupe while the nose incorporates elements first seen on the AERO 3. The “Arese RH95 reflects the stylistic features of the entire AERO line in its many distinctive elements, and the cinematic openings of the ext...

New Ferrari 812 Competizione And Competizione ‘A’ Targa Are Here To Remind Us What A V12 Is All About

Image
Ferrari has finally revealed the name of its special edition 812: meet the new 812 Competizione and its open-top sibling, the Competizione A. The headline figure of the new Ferrari 812 Competizione is of course the horsepower, which gets an upgraded version of the naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine producing 818 HP, instead of the Superfast’s 789 HP, while revving up to a shocking 9,500 rpm. Torque is slightly reduced from 529 lb-ft (717 Nm) to 513 lb-ft (695 Nm). The seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission comes with new software that further reduces shift times by 5 percent, retaining the same ratios with the ‘regular’ 812 Superfast. Ferrari’s new 812 Competizione models claim a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time in 2.85 seconds, while flat out they’ll do over 211 mph (340 km/h). To make a 6.5-liter V12 spin its internals at that speed, Ferrari redesigned many of its components, including new titanium con-rods that are 40 percent lighter than those in the Superfast, and a new ‘dia...

New Ferrari 812 ‘Limited Edition’ Revealed With 818 HP, Spins Up To 9,500 rpm

Image
Ferrari has released the first official images of the hardcore 812 Superfast limited edition model, ahead of its full reveal on May 5. The name of the 812 Superfast’s new version will also be revealed on May 5, during a special live event that will be broadcasted on Ferrari’s social media channels. The hardcore new Ferrari is powered by the latest evolution of their naturally aspirated V12 engine, which here produces 818 HP, making it the most powerful road-car engine the carmaker has ever offered. In addition, this beast of an engine can rev up to an almost unbelievable 9,500 rpm, also making it the highest-revving road-legal Ferrari ever made. The naturally aspirated V12 engine of the hardcore 812 has been upgraded from the ‘regular’ Ferrari 812 Superfast with many redesigned components, as well as a new valve timing mechanism, and a new exhaust system with square tips, in order to offer ‘unprecedented’ performance levels in the V12 segment. In true Ferrari fashion, the chassis has a...

New McLaren Artura Is A 670 HP Plug-in Hybrid Supercar That Has No Reverse Gear

Image
Tasked with the challenge of creating a production hybrid supercar that can bring the brand into an increasingly electrified future, McLaren’s engineers have been working overtime. And what they’ve come up with looks like it could balance the needs of the future with the expectations established by the brand’s other supercars. The result is the Artura, a 671 hp, mid-engined plug-in hybrid supercar that weighs about 3,300 lbs (1,496 kg) and can hit 60 mph in just three seconds. But to enumerate those figures so quickly doesn’t do this car justice – they need to be put in the correct context. That curb weight that would make a Lamborghini Aventador suck its gut in is achieved despite the Artura also lugging around a battery pack and an electric motor. These allow the McLaren to go 19 miles on electric power alone and help it achieve 50 mpg. Comparing it to the ICE-only Aventador’s 11 mpg would simply be unfair for the Lambo. McLaren managed to cut all that weight through obsessive attent...
