Touring Unveils Its First Mid-Engined Car, The Ferrari-Powered Arese RH95
After some teasing, we finally know what the Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera Arese RH95 will look like and what kind of performance it will have.
Although Touring has not yet revealed what car the Arese RH95 is based on, its V8 engine makes the same amount of power as the twin-turbocharged Ferrari F8 Tributo: 710 hp (720 PS) at 8,000 rpm and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque from 3,250 rpm, which are channeled to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The sprint from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) is handled in 3.0 seconds flat and it can run all the way up 205 mph (330 km/h).
Despite being the first mid-engined car Touring has ever produced, the design does incorporate classic elements from the coachbuilder’s past. The beltline, for instance, was inspired by the Disco Coupe while the nose incorporates elements first seen on the AERO 3.
The “Arese RH95 reflects the stylistic features of the entire AERO line in its many distinctive elements, and the cinematic openings of the exterior panels adds theatricality to a car that is art and design in motion,” said Louis de Fabribeckers, director of the Touring Design Center.
The dorsal scoop, though, is all new and it’s funneling air into the engine bay to feed that huffing V8. The scissor doors, meanwhile, add a bit of drama and the carbon fiber coachwork helps limit weight.
Inside, Touring has used a double-cockpit concept to give the driver and the passenger their own spaces. Each occupant is cocooned by the interior, which is filled with fine materials and many personalization options.
Car number 1 is finished in Verde Pino with a caramel and cocoa interior, and seat facings “accented in shades of saffron.” Touring says that the second car will be painted red with white accents, a nod to the Alfa GTA racers from the ’60s, while the third will feature Gulf Oil’s historic blue and orange.
Touring says that it expects to make 18 examples and that construction will take about six months once it receives a donor car, which it calls a “well-known exotic.” Pricing is not outlined but the F8 Tributo (if that is indeed the Arese RH95’s donor car) costs about $280,000 from the factory and Touring’s work isn’t likely to be cheap. The name, meanwhile, comes from Via per Arese, the area of Italy that Touring calls home.
The Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera Arese RH95 will make its UK debut at the 2021 Salon Prive starting on September 1.
