It’s been 50 years since Subaru of America first started its operations, and to celebrate the event, the automaker has launched limited edition models of some cars. Presented during the 2018 Chicago Auto Show, these include the Crosstrek, Forester, Impreza, Legacy, and Outback, limited to 1,050 units each, and the BRZ, WRX, and STI, with a combined total of 1,050. Few (should) be surprised to see that Subaru’s production 2017 Impreza doesn’t look anywhere near as impressive as  last year’s Impreza Concept .  Revealed in sedan form on the eve of  the New York Auto Show  where it will be joined by the five-door hatchback, the 2017 Impreza incorporates the lines  of the study , but in the dreary way that we’ve come to expect from production Subaru models. Nevertheless, it does look a bit more playful and youthful than the current car.  The interior doesn’t actually seem all that different from the outgoing model, with Subaru tidying up and modernizing the center console that houses two screens for the navigation and infotainment systems, with a third display positioned between the instrument panel gauges.  The  2017 Impreza is the first  production model from Subaru to sit on the automaker’s  newly developed Global Platform  that will form the base for most of their next-generation models. After about five months of teasing the next Impreza through three concepts, one  for each body style , the time has come for Subaru to present the production versions of two of them at the New York Auto Show on March 23. Subaru  will follow a current industry trend by introducing a modular chassis later this year, and the so-called Subaru Global Platform will underpin all of the Japanese automaker's future models. We'll see it first on the new  Impreza , which will go on sale in the second half of 2016. Subaru claims its new platform offers 70-100 percent greater rigidity compared to the company's current models, and the stiffer chassis means less vibration travels through the vehicle to the steering wheel and  seats , which results in an easier time for the driver. A 40-percent increase in impact energy absorption should also mean improved safety. Customers might experience a more exciting drive from the future Subarus, too. The company claims the new platform lowers the center gravity by 0.2 inches, which should sharpen handling.
