Hot on the heels of last week’s Q4 e-tron and the e-tron GT from earlier this year, Audi has unveiled the A6 e-tron concept at the 2022 Shanghai Motor show. It’s said that the only thing this concept shares with the “traditional” A6 is its dimensions, measuring 4.96 m (195.3 in) long, 1.96 m (77.2 in) wide, and 1.44 m (56.7 in) high. It’s a bold statement from a company that intends to offer more electric vehicles to US consumers than any other luxury brand by the end of 2021. The A6 e-tron concept previews the first Audi to be built on the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platform. Others expected to join in 2022 will be the Q5 e-tron and Q6 e-tron. The platform has been developed together with Porsche and will also support the next generation electric Macan. Audi is displaying no less than four new plug-in hybrid models at the Geneva Motor Show, namely the Audi A6L 55 TFSIe Quattro, A7 55 TFSIe Quattro, A8L 60 TFSIe Quattro, and the Q5 55 TFSIe Quattro. The quartet are confusingly named, but they do represent some of the most enticing variants of each respective model. Powering the Audi A6L 55 TFSIe Quattro, A7 55 TFSIe Quattro, and Q5 55 TFSIe Quattro are powertrains outputting 363 hp and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. Lesser ’50 TFSIe’ models will also be offered for the A6, A7, and Q5. These models have 295 hp and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of twisting force. All models use a 14.1 kWh battery and have an all-electric range of 24.8 miles (40 km). Perhaps owing to the A8’s larger size and position in the market, it uses a powerful 3.0-liter V6 paired with a synchronous electric motor to offer up 443 hp and 516 lb-ft (699 Nm) of torque. Audi has unveiled plug-in hybrid versions of the Q5, A6, A7, and A8 prior to next month’s Geneva Motor Show. Starting with the most expensive ride of the bunch, we have the Audi A8 L 60 TFSI e quattro. This model is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 that’s paired with a synchronous electric motor, a 14.1 kWh battery pack and an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. It delivers 443 hp and 516 lb-ft (699 Nm) and can run for 24.8 miles (40 km) on all-electric power. While the A8 enjoys a powertrain with well over 400 hp, the Audi Q5 50 TFSI e ‘comfort’, A6 TFSI 50 e ‘comfort’, and A7 50 TFSI e ‘comfort’ deliver 295 hp and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) in standard guise. If customers want a little more grunt, they can opt for the 55 TFSI e trim level model of either the Q5, A6, and A7, complete with 363 hp and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of twisting force. If there’s one thing Audi knows to do aside from Quattro all-wheel drive systems, that’s creating handsome station wagons like the all-new A6 Avant. Following in the footsteps of the redesigned sedan, the new A6 Avant has a wide singleframe grille and more muscular bodywork. Despite its focus on practicality, the wagon has a gently sloping roofline and rakish D-pillars. These styling decisions likely reduce the cargo capacity but they seem like a worthwhile tradeoff as the model has a sportier appearance than its predecessor. Sticking with the exterior, the standard model comes equipped with LED headlights while range-topping variants offer HD Matrix LED headlights with distinctive daylight running lights. Borrowing heavily from the larger A8 and sportier A7’s styling and bursting with high tech, Audi has introduced the eighth generation of its A6 sedan, following a leak earlier today. One of the star attractions at the Geneva Motor Show, the redesigned model follows in the footsteps of A7 and A8 as it adopts a stylish design with “taut surfaces, sharp edges and striking lines.” Starting up front, there’s a wide singleframe grille which is surrounded by large air intakes and angular headlights. Speaking of the latter, the A6 will be offered with three different headlights including range-topping HD Matrix LED lights that have distinctive daytime running lights. Moving further back, the model has been equipped with sportier bodywork and new character lines which give the sedan a more muscular appearance. In this brief 26-second video, Audi isn’t just teasing us with the design of the new-generation A6 saloon, but also with its impending arrival. Does that mean days, weeks? All we know is that the description of the video pretty much translates into: “Audi will soon be presenting the new Audi A6. How designers and engineers have revised the successful model, you will see in the coming days.” We’re also advised to follow the automaker’s Facebook channel, as well as their official blog. Chances are the car is coming to the 2018 Geneva Motor Show next month, which is what we were suspecting all along, although that doesn’t necessarily mean that it can’t be unveiled beforehand. In 2014, Audi offered the world a glimpse at its new design language with the stunning Prologue Concept. Created by Audi design chief Marc Lichte, the Prologue was actually designed and created after styling work had already been completed on the next-generation A6, A7 and A8. Fast forward two and a half years and we now have our first chance to see the designs that influenced the Prologue. During an interview with French publication L'argus, Lichte displayed the front-end designs of the new A6, A7 and A8 and as we expected, they all look very similar and are clearly reminiscent of the Prologue. Starting with the new A8, it will fittingly have the largest front grille of the three while closely resembling the look of the existing model - though more menacing and refined.
