2021 Hyundai Kona Arrives With Tweaked Looks And An N Line Variant

Image
The facelifted 2021 Hyundai Kona and new Kona N Line models have just been unveiled by the South Korean car manufacturer. While the overall shape of the updated Kona remains similar to the outgoing model, a host of changes have been made. These changes are particularly apparent at the front end where Hyundai has fitted re-designed LED daytime running lights while also installing a new lower bumper, a robust skid plate, and a revised black grille. Elsewhere, Hyundai has outfitted the facelifted Kona with new main headlights. Spin around to the rear and the tweaked Kona sports new taillights with revised graphics. There is also a distinctive rear bumper while 16-, 17-, and 18-inch wheels will also be offered throughout the range. A series of unique styling elements make the Kona N Line stand out from the regular model. This includes a bespoke front fascia with a new bumper, three subtle air slots above the grille, an N-style aerodynamic lip with corner fins, distinctive rocker panels, an...

New Hyundai Crossover To Debut In NY, Will Slot Beneath The Kona

Image
The New York Auto Show is two months away and Hyundai will use the event to introduce a new crossover that slots beneath the Kona. Speaking to Motor Trend, the head of Hyundai’s Global Design Center in Namyang revealed the crossover will be smaller and “distinctively different” than the Kona. SangYup Lee went on to describe the model as having a “very boxy, bold, bull-doggy character.” The crossover will go on sale later this year and be positioned as an entry-level, niche vehicle. As a result, the model will likely be more affordable than the Kona which starts at $19,990 before destination fees. Little else is known about the model, but it will likely become one of the smallest crossovers in the United States. There’s no word on dimensions at this point, but the Kona measures 164 inches (4,165 mm) long, 70.9 inches (1,800 mm) wide and 61 inches (1,549 mm) tall. Specifications also remain a mystery and it’s unclear if the model will be offered with all-wheel drive. An increa...

Hyundai Promises A New Concept For Geneva

Image
Hyundai has a whole raft of new models to present at the Geneva Motor Show this year. While some of them are already known to us, the Korean automaker has also announced its intention to reveal something entirely new. Though we don’t know exactly what to expect, Hyundai has confirmed that the new concept will debut a new design language for the brand. What form that concept will take, we couldn’t say at this stage – coupe, convertible, sedan, wagon, minivan, sport-ute, crossover, or something in between. But whatever it is, you can bet it has been designed to draw attention to itself, even amidst all the glitz and glamor of Europe’s premier auto show.  Regardless of its actual form, its styling, proportions, architecture, and technology are bound to eventually make a difference on future production models that are to follow. “The line-up at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show underlines Hyundai’s pioneering spirit in future mobility and showcases the fact that Hyundai is leading ...

Hyundai Kona Electric Revealed With Up To 292 Miles Of Range

Image
Hyundai has unveiled the zero-emissions version of the Kona, making it the first electric sub-compact SUV to be offered in Europe. The new Hyundai Kona Electric will be available with two different powertrain configurations: the basic model will be powered by a 135PS electric motor that’s fed by a 39.2kWh battery pack, giving it an estimated driving range of up to 186 miles (300km) on the latest WLTP cycle. The long-range version ups the ante with a 204PS electric motor paired to a 64kWh battery pack. Hyundai expects the long-range Kona Electric to travel up to 292 miles (470km) between charges. Hyundai says that both versions of the new Kona Electric require around 54 minutes to charge their batteries to 80 percent using a 100kW DC fast charger. Short-range models are capable of a 0-62mph (100km/h) in 9.3 seconds while the more powerful long-range Kona EV drops that time down to 7.6 seconds. In both cases top speed is set at 103mph (167km/h). Hyundai has added...

Official: Hyundai To Reveal Kona Electric With 292 Miles Of Range On Feb. 27

Image
Hyundai has released the first teaser image of the upcoming Kona Electric together with a date for its online premiere, set for February 27. The new electric model will be revealed “digitally” ahead of its world premiere at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The teaser image doesn’t reveal much, apart from the general silhouette of the vehicle and what looks like a new front-end treatment. This makes sense and it was expected since electric powertrains don’t require the same cooling with their internal combustion counterparts. Speaking of which, Hyundai also spilled the first technical details. The new Kona Electric will be available with two different powertrain options, “offering customers one of the most powerful electric engines on the market”. More importantly, the company targets to offer a class-leading driving range of up to 292 miles (470km) under the latest WLTP regulations, which sounds really impressive. The new Hyundai Kona Electric is also said to offer a fun-to-driv...

New 2018 Hyundai Kona Is A Funky Juke Rival With Advanced Tech

Image
Subcompact crossovers are all the rage these days and after announcing the Kia Stonic last Tuesday, the Hyundai Group has just revealed its sister model, the 2018 Hyundai Kona. Entering one of the most competitive segments in the market with rivals like the well-established Nissan Juke and the newer Toyota C-HR, Honda HR-V and Jeep Renegade just to mention a few, the Hyundai Kona will be sold around the world. It will first go on sale in Korea later this month, followed by Europe later this year and North Americas in early 2018. Let’s talk styling Named after the coastal region on the Big Island of Hawaii, the Kona has a bold face, though some may find similarities with other competitors, and a relatively muscular body with the usual protective cladding we find in this class. Naturally, LED units are found on both ends, as are chunky wheels with Hyundai to offer a few different designs. It’s a modern looking small crossover with the Koreans saying that they designed the car...

New Hyundai Kona: First Official Photos, Including Interior

Image
Hyundai can’t catch a break with the all-new Kona, with numerous appearances of the car spoiling it for them before the big reveal which is due for Tuesday, June 13. Now we get four low-quality images that are most likely from the official press pack, which also include for the first time our first, proper peek at the interior of the new Korean compact SUV. The new Hyundai Kona is rather boldly styled, which we guess is key for younger customers in Europe, featuring a twin-headlamp setup up front along with the company’s latest ‘Cascading Grille’ and lots of plastic body cladding. The images, courtesy of Hyundai-blog, also reveal the interior of the new Kona, which rather unsurprisingly is mimicking the style first seen on Hyundai’s latest models, such as the Ioniq and the i30, with a touchscreen display mounted over the air-vents. Hyundai has added vividly colored details on the vents, the gearshift surround and on the seats as well to match the funky exterior, but otherwis...

Exclusive: New 2018 Hyundai Kona Captured Completely Undisguised

Image
While Hyundai keeps teasing the official reveal of the upcoming Kona, the world has already caught a glimpse in early May, and this exclusive scoop gives our best look yet at the upcoming Korean sub-compact SUV. The new Hyundai Kona was caught in Madrid’s city center in an early Sunday morning, during what looks like filming a press kit video or TV spot. The shooting involved a group of Mercedes V-Class models being behind and blocking the traffic in order to let this light blue example and the camera car some clean space. Hyundai wanted something special from the design of the new Kona and that shows from the very first moment you lay your eyes on it. The bold front end is dominated by the twin-headlamp setup -with separate DRLs mounted over the LED headlights- the new ‘Cascading Grille’ and lots of plastic cladding. The rear end mixes design cues from the bigger Tucson with the same bold style, including a second set of lighting units that house the turning and fog lights ...

New Hyundai Kona Small Crossover, This Is It!

Image
The 2018 Hyundai Kona was spotted in Lisbon, Portugal, wearing its birthday suit. The Korean automaker prepares to aim its new sub-compact crossover at the likes of Renault's Captur and Nissan's Juke. The images come courtesy of Autoweek reader Patrick Kramer who was on location where Hyundai was shooting a commercial for the Kona, which is actually named after a Hawaiian district. Until recently, we only had a general idea about its overall styling, which is now proven to feature a set of headlights underneath the slim LED's found on each corner of the bonnet. The rest of the car comes with a dual-tone paint job, a flared wheel arch design both front and back, and a pair of slim taillights at the rear. We previously caught a glimpse of its interior as well, and we can tell you that its instrument dials have a classic, analogue design, and that its infotainment display has a clunky and rectangular appearance, sitting on top a pair of center-mounted air vents and cl...

Hyundai Kona Teased, Gets Cherokee-esque Dual Headlight Setup

Image
Hyundai has released new details and a teaser image of their upcoming Kona small crossover. Set to debut this summer, the subcomapct Kona will have a "progressive appearance" which highlights the brand's new design identity. The teaser image doesn't reveal much but Hyundai says the model will have a cascading grille which is flanked by separate lighting units that sound similar to the controversial setup found on the Jeep Cherokee. It's still too early to judge their appearance but Hyundai revealed the LED daytime running lights will be positioned above the LED headlights. This could make the front end look a little busy but the company insists the separated lights will "deliver a confident, progressive appearance with sleek and sharp shapes." Hyundai didn't have much else to say about the crossover but confirmed the model will have an elevated seating position and an optional four-wheel drive system. Customers can also look forward to bes...

Hyundai Teases Kona Sub-Compact SUV

Image
Hyundai has just teased its all-new sub-compact SUV dubbed the Kona ahead of its imminent reveal. The new B-segment SUV gets its name from the Kona district on the Big Island of Hawaii and will play a vital role in helping Hyundai to become the leading Asian automaker in Europe by 2021. It will join the Grand Santa Fe, Santa Fe and Tucson. Few other details about the car have been released but in a statement, the brand said “The Kona has also been developed with a focus on enhancing driving dynamics, as Hyundai looks to set new performance standards for the compact SUV segment. Kona delivers best-in-class interior space and innovative design features that hint at the future direction of the brand's next generation of SUV models.” As for the teaser image in question, it reveals very little of the model other than its headlight that has a slender, horizontal design dramatically different than any existing Hyundai SUV models. The Hyundai Kona will rival vehicles including t...
