Image
David Brown Automotive is going to reveal a new limited version of the Speedback GT, dubbed the Silverstone Edition, at the Geneva Motor Show. The new DBA Speedback Silverstone Edition will feature a more aggressive styling than the GT model it’s based on as well as offer over 600hp. The British boutique manufacturer released a pair of teaser images showing the car’s badging, saying that their latest model “takes hints from the aeronautical and motorsport heritage of Silverstone” which happens to be the location of the company’s headquarters. The new performance-focused model will be strictly limited to just 10 examples and will be built by hand alongside the Speedback GT and Mini Remastered at DBA’s Silverstone facilities. “Speedback Silverstone Edition is the perfect platform for us to hone classically-inspired performance, as we give a nod to our brand’s Silverstone roots, whilst looking ahead to a future of British handcraftsmanship at our bespoke coachbuilding facili...

David Brown Moving Down-Market With Project 2 Launching This Week

Image
Between its throwback styling and painstaking attention to detail, there's a lot for the classically minded to love about the Speedback GT from David Brown Automotive. Unfortunately at £495,000, it's far too expensive for most of us to afford. But the company is working on that. Later this week, it will reveal its promised Project 2 in London, and has revealed a few salient details to give us an idea of what to expect. For starters, David Brown's second product “will sit at a lower price point” than the Speedback. Just how much lower, we don't know, but the manufacturer aims to make up the difference on (relative volume). It's moving to a new manufacturing facility at Silverstone, where it will be able to produce up to 100 of the new cars (in addition to the existing model) each year. The bespoke automaker promises that the new model will still be handcrafted and offer a fully customized product, just like the Speedback. It'll be offered in “a range of ...

David Brown Automotive Announces Second Model Coming Soon

Image
David Brown Automotive makes one thing, and one thing only. But that's about to change as the small British carmaker has announced it has a second project in the works. Now in the process of relocating to a new facility at Silverstone, the automaker known for the Speedback GT (pictured) is preparing to unveil the vehicle currently known only as Project 2 sometime within the next few months, with deliveries to commence already in September. That already tells us something about how far along the project is, which the manufacturer confirms: “We’ve been working on Project 2 for over a year, it’s an idea that I had right at the start of Speedback GT’s story and sits beautifully alongside it,” said founder David Brown. “Using our core mantra of classic styling, beautiful craftsmanship and modern technology, Project 2 is a fusion of the brand’s values, with quintessential British design and craftsmanship at the heart.” The company is not saying much else at the moment, but refer...

David Brown Bringing Speedback GT To Geneva For European Debut

Image
David Brown Automotive is getting ready for its European debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.  The British low-volume company will showcase two Speedback GTs in MY2017 specification, which includes  further refinements  in the design and engineering of the grand tourer.  The coachbuilt special pays homage to the Aston Martin DB5, featuring a hand-crafted aluminum body and huge levels of British-ness.  Underneath its un-apologetically retro bodywork,  David Brown’s Speedback GT  is using the underpinnings of a Jaguar XKR, including its supercharged 510hp 5.0-litre V8.  The interior certainly gives away the relationship but the company went into great lengths to make it feel like a more special place to sit in, employing the finest veneers, polished metal details, leather and other bespoke features. Even the paintjob takes eight weeks to get done, as the boutique makes applies no less than 14 layers of paint on its car. And as you would expec...
