General Motors shocked the auto industry when it announced plans to close up to five North American plants and slash 15 percent of its salaried workforce earlier today. The initial release was light on specifics, but the company has now added a “North American Capacity Actions” sheet which spells out of the death of a number of different models. Like previous actions by Ford and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, GM’s sedan lineup is seeing major cuts. Things will kick off on March 1st 2019, when the last Buick LaCrosse and Chevrolet Volt are built at the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant in Michigan. At the same time, a couple hundred miles away, the last Chevrolet Cruze will be built at the Lordstown Assembly Plant in Ohio. When summer rolls around, the Cadillac CT6 and Chevrolet Impala will cease being built at the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant on June 1st. Cadillac has revealed the new 2019 CT6 V-Sport, the first hot version of the range-topping sedan and the company’s first model to feature their all-new twin-turbo 4.2-liter V8. The new range-topper is also our first look at the facelifted CT6 range, which now adopts the latest version of Cadillac’s design language, as feature on the Escala concept. Under the bonnet lies Cadillac’s all-new twin-turbo 4.2-liter V8 that produces an estimated 550hp and 627lb-ft (850Nm) of peak torque. Cadillac says that the engine is a clean-sheet design that introduces unique elements, offering a balance between performance and efficiency, along with compact packaging. The new powerplant adopts a “hot-V” configuration, meaning that the turbochargers are mounted between the heads, eliminating turbo lag and helping into reducing the packaging.
