VW T-Roc Cabriolet: High-Riding Golf Convertible Successor Revealed

Image
Volkswagen wants to draw attention to its newest convertible, the T-Roc Cabriolet, which will have its official market launch in Germany and other European markets from March 20. The automaker does that by releasing the mother lode of all photo galleries (325 of them to be exact), as well as detailed videos featuring the T-Roc Cabriolet’s two trim levels. Compared to the regular T-Roc, the convertible version ditches the rear doors and the fixed roof, adopting a fully automated soft top instead. VW is proud of the fact the top opens in just nine seconds, even when traveling at speeds of up to 30 km/h (18.6 mph). Unsurprisingly, the T-Roc Cabriolet is less practical than its fixed-roof sibling, offering a boot capacity of 280 liters (9.9 cu ft), regardless of whether the soft top is open or closed. Still, it comes with folding rear seat backrests and optional towing bracket. The drop-top compact SUV will be offered in Style and R-Line grades, with the former adopting a ...

Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet Is A Crossover For Droptop Lovers

Image
Droptop crossovers have always been rather odd and the T-Roc Cabriolet is no different. It will be the only convertible Volkswagen on sale for the foreseeable future and will celebrate its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Rather than simply removing the roof of the standard T-Roc, Volkswagen has drastically altered the vehicle’s structure and body. In fact, its wheelbase is 37 mm longer than the standard T-Roc while its overall length is up by 34 mm. In addition, the Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet features structural strengthening in the underbody, side panels, cross members, doors, and windscreen frame to make up for the lack of a roof. The folding fabric roof developed by Volkswagen retracts in just nine seconds at speeds of up to 19 mph (30.5 km/h) and is similar in operation to the roof of the outgoing Golf Cabriolet. The presence of the soft top reduces trunk space by 161 liters down from the 284 liters of the run-of-the-mill T-Roc. We don’t think bu...

It’s Official: VW T-Roc R Unveiled With 300 PS, Does 0-100 Km/h In 4.9 Seconds

Image
Up until recently, performance SUVs were exclusive to premium car brands. Well, mainstream automakers want a slice of that pie too, so models like this new VW T-Roc R are something we should get used to. Set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month, the T-Roc R marks the first time the “R” moniker is used on an SUV. Developed by Volkswagen R, the T-Roc R offers roughly the same power as a Golf R. It uses the same 2.0-liter TSI turbo-four that produces 300 PS (296 hp) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. Hooked to a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission and standard 4Motion all-wheel drive, the gasoline engine enables the T-Roc R to boast impressive performance for an SUV. The 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint takes just 4.9 seconds and top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph). Naturally, VW did more than just transplant the high-output engine onto the T-Roc chassis. The SUV also gains a lowered suspension and a standard progressive steering system for...

New 2019 T-Cross Is VW’s Smallest And Cheapest SUV Ever. And It’s Not Coming To America

Image
The teaser campaign for the all-new T-Cross is finally over as VW has officially lifted the veils of its smallest SUV to date. Revealed in Amsterdam, Shanghai, and São Paulo the T-Cross is a global SUV that uses the same platform as the Polo and therefore doesn’t offer all-wheel drive — not even as an option. Design-wise, it’s a combination between VW’s other SUVs. From the front, it looks like a smaller Touareg thanks to the similar grille that blends with the headlights. The side reminds a lot of the Tiguan thanks to the strong character line, while the rear end is probably the most original part of the car. The taillights look like nothing else in VW’s current lineup, and they are connected by a light strip that makes the T-Cross look wider than it really is. Speaking of dimensions, the MQB platform has allowed VW to locate the driven front axle well forward. As a result, the T-Cross has a relatively generous wheelbase compared to the overall vehicle length. The sma...

VW T-Roc Gets New R-Line Model

Image
Volkswagen introduced the all-new T-Roc a few weeks ago and the company is already spicing up its entry-level crossover with a couple of R-Line packages. Designed to appeal to style conscious consumers, the R-Line Exterior Package includes sportier body-color bumpers and R-Line badging on the grille. Buyers will also find a unique rear diffuser, body-colored door trim, and darker taillights. To spruce up the cabin, the R-Line Interior Package adds a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel and two-tone cloth / microfiber seats with faux leather accents. The package also includes a black roofliner, special floor mats, and stainless steel pedals. Rounding out the changes are R-Line door sill plates and 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels. Besides introducing the R-Line packages, Volkswagen detailed the T-Roc's engine lineup. On the petrol side, the entry-level offering is a 1.0-liter TSI that develops 115 PS (85 kW) and 200 Nm (147 lb-ft) of torque. Moving up to the 1.5-liter T...

Volkswagen's T-Roc Looks To Rock The Compact Crossover Market

Image
Following a lengthy teaser campaign, Volkswagen has officially unveiled the new T-Roc. Designed to slot beneath the Tiguan, the T-Roc will become the brand's entry-level crossover and it has been designed to appeal to everyone from millennials to empty nesters. On the styling front, the T-Roc adopts a sporty appearance as the model has been equipped with a wide grille, slender headlights, and distinctive LED daytime running lights. Customers will also find muscular wheel arches, plastic body cladding, and chrome trim which runs all the way from the A-pillar to the C-pillar. Out back, the T-Roc has a tailgate-mounted spoiler, a steeply raked rear window, and a sporty rear bumper. Volkswagen also notes the model is the company's first crossover to be offered with two-tone paint that applies a contrasting finish to the roof, mirrors, and A-pillars. The five-seat interior has a number of high-tech features including a digital instrument cluster and a Composition...

First Look At VW's T-Roc Sub-Compact Crossover

Image
While there's clearly some resemblance between this prototype and the T-Roc concept from a few years ago, some of the latter's styling cues were clearly never going to make it into production. That being said, this "baby Tiguan" from VW is clearly on a mission to put a dent in the sub-compact crossover segment, which has grown a lot over the past couple of years. As far as what this prototype tells us, we can paint a somewhat clear picture for you in terms of design. Certain elements were clearly borrowed from its Tiguan sibling, whereas the profile lines (the one over the arch at the rear in particular) are reminiscent of the T-Roc Concept. Speaking of which, if the production car is to keep the concept's dimensions, we'll be looking at roughly 4,179 mm (164.5 in) in length, 1,831 mm (72.1 in) in width and 1,501 (59.1 in) in height - making it slightly longer, wider and less tall than a Nissan Juke or a Renault Captur. Underneath its body panels yo...
