Bugatti’s New $3.9 Million Chiron Super Sport Is An SS 300+ With All The Luxury Built Back In

Image
Bugatti blew our collective minds back in 2019 when it smashed the 300 mph production barrier for production cars with the 304.77 mph (490.48 km/h) Chiron Super Sport 300+. But, much like the handling-focused Chiron Pur Sport that arrived in 2020 to prove that Bugattis could do more than go fast in a straight line, the 300+ gave up a big dollop of luxury and refinement (of Bugattiness, if you like) to deliver that headline-grabbing top speed. So, what if you desire the power and performance of the Super Sport 300+, but don’t want to compromise on the luxury features present on a ‘regular’ Chiron? That’s where the new Super Sport comes in. In essence, the Super Sport promises the best of both worlds: physics defying performance, but without giving away anything in terms of comfort. If that sounds like an enticing blend you’re going to need €3.2 million ($3.9 million) plus taxes to grab one of the 60 Bugatti will build. That makes the Super Sport twice as numerous as the 300+, which appe...

New Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport Breaks Cover With Aero Upgrades, Stiffer Suspension

Image
Bugatti may be a one-model brand but the Chiron is getting so many variants it’s getting hard to keep track of all of them. Adding to the long list of special edition Chirons is the new Pur Sport, billed as the driver’s Chiron. Bugatti hasn’t released details yet, but the story has gone public on Yahoo Sports. By upgrading the W16-powered hypercar’s aerodynamics and suspension, reducing weight and making power more readily available, engineers improved handling and made the Chiron more enjoyable to drive in the bends. As you can imagine, the engine remains the same 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 that makes 1,500 PS (1,103 kW / 1,479 HP). However, the redline has moved 200 rpm higher than on the “regular” Chiron, reaching 6,900 rpm now. That’s because the monumental engine is now mated to a recalibrated automatic transmission. Changes to the gearbox also include 15-percent closer gear ratios that have a positive effect on power delivery and engine response – not that the Chir...

Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ Capped At Just 30 Units Worldwide

Image
This is the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+, the production version of the top speed prototype that recently smashed through the 300 mph (482 km/h) barrier to establish a new benchmark for a road car. The production-ready version looks virtually identical to the prototype and is bathed in the same carbon fiber skin with bright orange accents, much like the Veyron Super Sport. This means the front end is dominated by a blacked-out horseshoe grille and aggressive air intakes that make the ‘regular’ Chiron seem restrained. There are also circular air vents sitting at the top of both front wheel arches. The rear is where most of the visual and aerodynamic changes were made. As such, the rear decklid is much longer than the standard Chiron and now supports a bespoke engine cover. In addition, there are vertically-stacked quad exhausts just like the recent Bugatti Centodieci. The only notable visual difference between the top speed prototype and the production model are the bespoke bl...

Bugatti’s Centodieci Is A 1,578 HP Tribute To The EB110

Image
The Bugatti Centodieci might have slipped out early, but the company has officially unveiled the new hypercar in Pebble Beach. Starting with performance specs, the Centodieci has an 8.0-liter W16 engine that produces a staggering 1,578 hp (1,176 kW / 1,600 PS). This is 99 hp (74 kW / 100 PS) more than the Chiron. Thanks to the extra power, the model can accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 2.4 seconds. Keeping the accelerator pinned to the floor will see 124 mph (200 km/h) arrive in 6.1 seconds, while 186 mph (300 km/h) comes 7 seconds later. Given enough room, the Centodieci will eventually top out at an electronically limited 236 mph (380 km/h). The performance tweaks don’t stop there as the Centodieci weighs 44 lbs (20 kg) less than the Chiron. This was made possible by an assortment of changes including the use of a lightweight windshield wiper and stabilizers that were built out of carbon fiber. Bugatti CEO Stephan Winkelmann said “The increased power and lowe...

Bugatti La Voiture Noire Is A €16.7 Million Hypercar

Image
Bugatti teased a modern-day Type 57 SC Atlantic, and the ‘La Voiture Noire’ has just broken cover, though it’s not exactly new. Unveiled during the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, it’s described as “the ultimate GT” by CEO Stephan Winkelmann and builds on the Chiron, to which it adds a custom, and very impressive, bodywork. ‘La Voiture Noir’ is French for ‘The Black Car’, “a reminiscence of the Type 57 SC Atlantic”, says Bugatti, and best describes the glossy black finish chosen for the handcrafted carbon fiber bodywork. Nothing disturbs the optical flow; the bumpers are integrated into the body and the window design was inspired by a helmet visor, with the windscreen appearing to flow seamlessly into the side windows. There are no surprises in the engine compartment, as power comes from Bugatti’s 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16. It pushes out 1,500 PS (1,479 hp / 1,103 kW) and 1,600 Nm (1,180 lb-ft) of torque, identical to the one used in the Chiron and Divo, and “bearing witness t...

Bugatti Reveals New Chiron Sport ‘110 Ans’ Edition For Its 110th Birthday

Image
Bugatti will blow 110 candles off their birthday cake this year, and they’re celebrating it by introducing the new Chiron Sport 110 Ans Edition. Based on the Sport version of the hypercar, this limited edition will be produced in just to 20 units. All of them will feature a matte Steel Blue paintwork with matching, exposed carbon fiber elements, and trimmings in the colors of the French national flag. The Chiron Sport 110 Ans Edition also rides on Nocturne matte black alloy wheels, with the French Racing Blue-finished brake calipers visible behind them. A similar color scheme was chosen for the cockpit, where you’ll find Deep Blue leather upholstery, Alcantara trim, carbon fiber inserts and more ‘red, white and blue’ accents, in addition to the ‘110 Ans Bugatti’ emblem applied to the headrests. Positioned on a carbon fiber plate in the central console stowage space is a solid silver crafted medallion, which Bugatti says that it “bears witness to the high level of craft...

Bugatti Divo Debuts With 1500 HP, Production Limited To 40 Units

Image
The Bugatti Divo was one of the most highly-anticipated cars headed to Pebble Beach and now the automaker has finally unveiled the model. Designed to revive the company’s tradition of coachbuilding, the Divo features a unique design which shares little with the Chiron. A lot of the styling changes focused on improving aerodynamics and Bugatti says the modifications have resulted in an additional 90 kg (198 lbs) of downforce. Starting up front, the Divo has been equipped with a new front fascia featuring larger air intakes and a wider front spoiler. These changes help to significantly improve downforce and cooling. Speaking of the latter, the brakes are cooled by “four independent air sources on each side of the vehicle: air flows in from the high-pressure area above the front bumper, the inlets on the front wings, one inlet on the front radiator and the diffusers ahead of the tires.” Designers even paid special attention to the roof and created it in such a way that i...

Bugatti Divo Shows Radically-Different Silhouette

Image
Bugatti has dropped a new teaser of the upcoming Divo hypercar and it exemplifies just how different the car will look from an ordinary Chiron. This particular image offers a look at the hypercar from the side, covered only be a thin layer of cloth that offers us a near-unimpeded view of the silhouette. As had long been expected, it seems apparent that the Bugatti Divo will take very obvious design inspiration from the Vision Gran Turismo Concept, shown to the world before even the road-going Chiron was unveiled. Key features visible include a massive fixed rear wing, aggressive wheel arches, prominent fins on the side skirts and a bold body line running from the front wheel arch through to the B-pillar. It also appears as if a shark fin, just like the one featured on the Vision Gran Turismo, stretches from the roof to the rear wing. Specifications for the Divo remain unclear but we know it will be far more focused on handling and downforce than the run-of-the-mill Chiron. A...

New Bugatti Divo Teaser Reveals Carbon Fiber Aero Blade

Image
Bugatti seems to have put a lot of work into their new hypercar, the Divo, which is a few weeks away from being officially unveiled. However, and before its debut under the California sun at the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the new hypercar is still teased by the Molsheim-based manufacturer. The latest picture released by Bugatti on social media previews the aero blade made from carbon fiber and adorned with the red, white and blue colors of the French flag. It also tells us that this example is dressed in black and contrasted by light blue accents. Given the pace at which Bugatti drops teasers with the Divo, and the significance it has for the automaker, we wouldn’t be surprised if it will be way more than a Chiron with a different (or updated) body. And performance wise, it will definitely smoke the ‘regular’ Chiron, although it’s hard to tell yet whether the quad-turbo 8.0-liter W16 engine will be updated in any way to deliver more than the existing 1,500PS (...

Bugatti Chiron’s New Glass Roof Option Is One Expensive Way To Look At The Sky Above

Image
In between the development of the Divo and probably still looking to shatter the top speed record for production cars, Bugatti has revealed the newest option for the Chiron: a glass roof. Called ‘Sky View’ by the Molsheim-based car maker, it consists of two fixed panels above the driver’s and passenger’s heads, 65cm (25.6in) long and 44cm (17.3in) wide each. The glass roof provides an additional 2.7cm (1.06in) of headroom according to Bugatti, and is tinted for extra privacy and to prevent dazzle effects, filtering out UVA and UVB radiation. It also “offers outstanding noise abatement”, and doesn’t affect the overall stiffness or crash safety of the potentially record-breaking hypercar. Bugatti says the Sky View is available as an optional extra with immediate effect, although they don’t talk about costs. Still, when someone can afford to blow a few millions of dollars on one of the best vehicles the world has ever seen, it’s very likely they won’t mind spending another fou...

Bugatti Chiron Divo Is A Faster, Hardcore Special Edition Limited To 40 Units

Image
After presenting the Chiron Sport earlier this year, Bugatti is now getting ready to launch a limited edition version of their hypercar, called Chiron Divo. Named after the French racing driver Albert Divo, who won the Targa Florio race twice for Bugatti in the late 1920s, it will premiere at ‘The Quail – A Motorsports Gathering’, in California, on August 24. Described as being “made for corners” by Bugatti President, Stephan Winkelmann, the Chiron Divo wants “to thrill people throughout the world” with its “nimble handling in a significantly more performance-oriented way”. It’s unknown what Bugatti what Bugatti did to the Chiron to turn it into the Divo, but words such as “lightweight and agility, higher downforce and greater g-forces” have also been used in the short press release. That said, expect it to be lighter than the current Chiron and to feature some aerodynamic updates. Also, its “dynamic character will be underlined by a new, strong design language”, says Bug...
