Ferrari SP38 Is The Marque’s Latest One-Off

Image
Say hello to the Ferrari SP38, the latest one-off to come from the marque’s Special Projects division. Based on the 488 GTB, it will be delivered to its lucky owner at Villa d’Este on May 26. As you’ll immediately notice, the body of the SP38 is totally bespoke and a dramatic departure from the 488. In fact, the exterior design of the supercar is so radical that it looks more like a concept car than a road-going model. Up front, the SP38 includes a set of small, horizontal headlights that complement an aggressive front fascia with painted and carbon fiber components. Elsewhere, the vehicle’s sides include dramatic skirts, a sharp roofline, and small side windows. Star-shaped wheels finished in silver top things off. As radical as the front and sides are, it is the rear where the real action is happening. Most notably, a traditional rear window/engine cover has been replaced by a set of body-colored louvers. Additionally, the taillights have been hidden away in the bla...

Bespoke Rolls-Royce Sweptail Debuts At Villa d'Este

Image
What you're looking at isn't a new production model from Rolls-Royce, what you're looking at is a one-off commissioned by a connoisseur of the brand, dubbed the Sweptail and debuting at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este at Lake Como. Underpinning the Sweptail is the same platform as the outgoing Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe and while it's underpinnings aren't special, the interior and exterior designs are. The British marque says that the design of the vehicle was inspired by vintage models to wear the Spirit of Ecstasy and luxury yachts. The influence of yachts is particularly evident at the rear where the window tapers off from the roof to above the tailgate, forming a triangular shape. Additionally, there are curved elements in the rear fascia that drastically alter the overall appearance of the vehicle. The design of the front is slightly less radical but still noticeable and includes a plethora of bespoke parts including new headlights and a re...

BMW Concept Link Scooter Leans Into The Future

Image
BMW certainly caught our attention with the reveal of the new 8 Series show car. But that's not the only concept it's bringing to Villa d'Este this year. The motorcycle division has also cooked up this rather forward-looking electric scooter concept. Called the Link, it features a number of innovations that riders ought to find interesting. Look beyond the avant-garde design and you'll find a two-wheeled urban commuter with an adaptable seat that can extend for two passengers or retract for just one. The electric powertrain also frees up considerable storage space underneath the bench as well, offering more versatility than most motorcycles or scooters and easy access through a sliding door. Concept Link also features a head-up display that projects the instruments and navigation information onto the orange windscreen, which sits above the touchscreen panel on the handlebars. The Bavarian manufacturer also envisions a broad array of customization options that...

New BMW 8-Series Concept Revealed, Coming In 2018

Image
BMW has uncovered the new 8-Series concept, ahead of its debut at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. Designed to preview the 8-Series Coupe, the concept is a "luxurious sports car which embodies both unadulterated dynamics and modern luxury." Looking far more athletic than the Gran Lusso Coupe, the 8-Series concept is a stylish two-door model which features an aggressive front fascia with a large twin-kidney grille. The car has also been equipped with a carbon fiber front splitter, laser headlights, and massive air intakes. Moving further back, we can see a long hood, flowing bodywork, and 21-inch lightweight alloy wheels. The concept also has front fender vents, muscular rear wheel arches, and a sporty roofline. Other highlights include a carbon fiber rear diffuser that is flanked by a dual exhaust system with trapezoidal tailpipes. The interior is a bit of a departure from traditional BMWs as it adopts a minimalist design with a driver focused layout. As part ...

More BMW 8-Series Concept Images Leak, Rear Perfectly Visible

Image
After getting a taste earlier today of what BMW has planned with their 8-Series Concept from a design perspective, six new images leaked online, allowing for an even better look. This stylish new coupe from Bavaria appears set to impress fans and Villa d'Este visitors alike with its massive kidney grille and squinty headlights when viewed from the front. However, since we were actually craving a better look from the rear, which these new images courtesy of Autotijd certainly provide, here's what we can take away: First, the sloping roof line and the way it connects with the shoulder line does make the car seem a bit Aston Martin DB11-ish. However, the taillights remain L-shaped in typical BMW fashion, reminding us of a mix between the taillight design of the BMW Vision Next 100 concept and the ones from the i Vision Future Interaction concept. BMW will debut the 8-Series Concept tomorrow, May 26, at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este on the shores of Lake C...

New BMW 8-Series Concept Shows The Shape Of Things To Come

Image
The first pictures of the BMW 8-Series concept have hit the web ahead of its unveiling at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on May 26th. Looking far sleeker than the teaser image suggested, the 8-Series concept is a stylish two-door coupe which features a bold front fascia with a massive twin-kidney grille that is flanked by slender headlights. The car also has a rakish windscreen, large front fender vents, and lightweight alloy wheels which cover huge brake discs and gold calipers. The rear image isn't of the highest quality but we can see the model has a gently sloping roofline which tapers down to meet an integrated spoiler. The concept also has an aggressive rear bumper and what appears to be a dual exhaust system. The concept is designed to preview a production model which will be launched in 2018. The car will partially replace the 6-Series Coupe and BMW Chairman Harald Krüger has called it a "genuine dream car" which will add a "slice of pure autom...

2018 BMW 8-Series Officially Teased Ahead Of Villa d’Este Debut

Image
Following the confirmation of the 8-Series’ rebirth, BMW dropped the first official teaser image of the model’s concept, ahead of its public debut later this month. BMW will reveal the 8-Series in a design study form on May 26 at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, providing a look ahead to the production Coupe model that’s slated for 2018. “The BMW 8 Series Coupe will build on our tradition of luxurious sports coupes and add a genuine dream car to our line-up – a slice of pure automotive fascination,” says Krüger, looking ahead to the new model. “The 8 Series Coupe will underpin our claim to leadership in the luxury segment. I can tell you today that this will be a true luxury sports coupe.” The new 8-Series is going to be based on the same CLAR platform with the 5- and 7-Series, with BMW aiming to position the new model more upmarket than the outgoing 6-Series Coupe. According to the latest reports, the production version of the 2018 8-Series Coupe will compete in the 15...

Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Concept Combines British Engineering With Italian Flair

Image
By bringing the Vanquish Zagato Concept to the  shores of Lake Como , Aston Martin and Italian design-house Zagato celebrate a collaboration that started over 50 years ago. Viewed from the front, the  Vanquish Zagato Concept  is quite similar to the regular Vanquish, but the second you move towards its side of the rear, you'll find a more Fastback-like appearance with a completely redesigned rear-end that's more reminiscent of the V12 Zagato road concept from 2012, than anything else. There are of course more than a few Aston Martin visual features, both classic and modern, such as the One-77 inspired wing mirrors, the retractable spoiler, rear hatch design or the quad-exhausts. The bladed LED taillights seem to stand out really well in the shade, or in the absence of light (as you'd imagine), and stay true to past Zagato-built models in terms of their overall shape - where the fact that they're round sets them apart instantly from any sort of factory-standard ...
