2021 Nissan Z Teased For The First Time, Shows 240Z Styling Influences

Image
Nissan released a new video to tease its upcoming new models, which included our first look at the much anticipated 2021 Z sports car. From what we can tell, the new Nissan Z confirms previous reports that suggested it will draw inspiration from the original 240Z for its styling, featuring cleaner lines than the 370Z but without looking too retro. The front end of the 2021 Z is getting a pair of LED headlights shaped in a circle as a tribute to the iconic 240Z while the front grille appears to be model-specific and not related to the V-Motion design language of the brand. The roofline slopes towards the back in typical Z fashion but the rear end appears to be less rounded compared to the 370Z and more like the classic Z models. The new model is reportedly going to be based on a revised version of the 370Z platform. Other than that, there isn’t much official information on Nissan’s new sports car. Power is expected to come from a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine, the same one as featured ...

It’s Official: Hummer Is Coming Back As 1,000 HP Electric Pickup From GMC

Image
After months of rumors and speculation, General Motors has confirmed Hummer is making a comeback. The company is keeping details under wraps, but the first new Hummer will be an electric pickup with 1,000 hp (746 kW / 1,014 PS) and 11,500 lb-ft (15,574 Nm) of torque. This will enable the model to rocket from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in just three seconds. The model is dubbed the “GMC Hummer EV” and it will be officially unveiled on May 20th. In the meantime, the company released a teaser image which shows the model will have a slender six slot grille and LED headlights.  Further below, we can see a rugged front bumper and offset GMC badging. Additional details are hard to make out, but there’s sculpted hood and squared off mirrors.  The model also appears to have the roof-mounted lights just the iconic H2. Besides the teaser image, GMC announced plans to feature the pickup in a Super Bowl commercial called “Quiet Revolution.”  The 30 second spot will air during the...

Aston Martin V12 Speedster Teased, Production Capped At 88 Units Worldwide

Image
Not willing to let McLaren and Ferrari have all of the fun, Aston Martin has just announced a limited-edition Speedster of its own, aptly dubbed the ‘V12 Speedster.’ The car, teased through a single sketch, has been created by the British brand’s in-house bespoke service Q by Aston Martin and features a design reminiscent of the 1959 Le Mans-winning DBR1 and the CC100 Speedster Concept from 2013. Powering the Aston Martin V12 Speedster will be the company’s flagship 5.2-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine that will produce “around” 690 hp and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. Interestingly, both of those figures are less than what the DBS Superleggera pumps out. The V12 Speedster will be rear-wheel drive and feature a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. While the limited-edition model, capped at just 88 units globally, won’t be the fastest or most powerful Aston Martin available, the lack of a roof will mean owners get to enjoy the twin-turbocharged V12 engine in all its glory. ...

McLaren’s Next Ultimate Series Model Is A Limited Production Roadster

Image
This year’s Pebble Beach Concourse d’Elegance will host an all-new Ultimate Series McLaren model, a yet-unnamed two-seat, open cockpit roadster. The British automaker says that the new model will debut in late 2020 and that production will be limited to just 399 cars. Meanwhile, its price tag should see it positioned somewhere between the McLaren Senna ($958,966) and the Speedtail (£2.1 million GBP). Speaking of these two, while the Senna is focused on being the ultimate road-legal track car, and the Speedtail is all about high-speed aerodynamic efficiency, the new roadster will look to offer “the purest distillation of road-focused driving pleasure and an unrivaled sense of driver connection with the surrounding environment.” In terms of styling and performance, we can expect elegant sweeping lines and low-profile dihedral doors to serve as eye candy, while the carbon fiber construction and twin-turbocharged V8 engine will take care of the rest. By the way, the engine is “a v...

Gordon Murray’s “Modern McLaren F1” To Have 650-700 HP, Six-Speed Manual

Image
In 2022, Gordon Murray will launch the spiritual successor to the iconic McLaren F1, which he masterminded back in the 1990s. The new supercar, dubbed T.50, will be manufactured by Gordon Murray Automotive and is being touted as the “purest, lightest, most driver-focused supercar ever built.” Powering the T.50 will be a naturally-aspirated 3.9-liter V12 developed and built by Cosworth with 650 HP and 331 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque, which will rev to a stratospheric 12,100 rpm. While those figures aren’t extraordinary in the modern world of supercars and hypercars, Murray notes that maximum power is, in reality, closer to 700 HP thanks to the ram-air effect provided by the large roof scoop. Coupled to the engine will be a lightweight six-speed manual transmission currently being developed by Xtrac. Power will be sent to the rear wheels and braking will be provided by lightweight monobloc alloy calipers and carbon ceramic discs. Underpinning the T.50 will be a carbon fiber monoc...

Lotus Type 130 To Be Britain’s First All-Electric Hypercar

Image
We’d all heard the rumors and Lotus has just confirmed that it is developing its first-ever hypercar and has revealed the first teaser image of the vehicle at the Shanghai Auto Show. The British car manufacturer notes that the car will be its first all-new product in more than a decade and has dubbed it ‘Type 130’. Limited details about the vehicle have been released other than the fact that it will feature an all-electric powertrain. The sole teaser image released of the vehicle reveals that it will feature a very sleek exterior design. According to Car Advice, it will be roughly the same length as the Lotus Evora but be much wider. The teaser also shows airflow making its way across the exterior of the Type 130, confirming that the British car manufacturer is very focused on the aerodynamics of the vehicle. Underpinning the Lotus Type 130 will be a bespoke carbon fiber monocoque with electric motors driving all four wheels and a battery pack located directly behind the passe...

Mid-Engine 2020 Corvette C8 Officially Teased, Debuts July 18th

Image
The wait is almost over as Chevrolet has confirmed the 2020 Corvette will be unveiled this summer. The company is keeping details under wraps, but said the 2020 C8 is the “sum of each generation before it, but will stand alone as the new standard of performance.” Chevrolet is staying coy on specifics, but we already know the model will be a radical departure from its predecessor as it will have a mid-mounted 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces around 500 hp (373 kW / 507 PS). It will be connected to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission which sends power to the rear wheels. While the powertrain itself isn’t too revolutionary, the 2020 Corvette will adopt an all-new design as part of its switch to a mid-engine layout. The curved front fascia of the C7 will be replaced by a more aggressive setup that features an angular nose and muscular intakes. The sports car will also adopt a shorter hood as there’s no need for engine room up front. Bigger changes occur further back a...

Fisker Shows New Teaser Of Electric SUV That’s Coming In 2021

Image
Fisker has released a new teaser image of the all-electric SUV it intends on launching in the second half of 2021. We were first provided with a look at the vehicle last month, and this latest sketch was released alongside an announcement regarding the company’s manufacturing plans. Key design details of the SUV’s front fascia include a large grille, small headlights with LED daytime running lights stretching towards the center of the SUV’s nose. Additionally, there are secondary running lights incorporated into the lower half of the fascia. This teaser also shows off the seven-spoke wheels of Fisker’s new model. Fisker originally intended on getting back into the world of green vehicles with the launch of its EMotion luxury sedan powered by solid-state batteries. Initial plans called for this vehicle to be launched towards the end of 2019, but the car has since been pushed back to at least 2021 when it will arrive after the SUV pictured. The company asserts that its, for no...

The Lexus Of Minivans Is Really Coming, LM Name Confirmed

Image
Some automakers are saying no to people carriers and instead, focusing their efforts on giving customers even more crossovers and SUVs. But not Lexus. In fact, the Japanese automaker will be launching its first-ever minivan at the Shanghai Auto Show later this month. Named the LM, it’s likely based on the third generation Toyota Alphard. Judging by the latest teaser image released on social media, it has an almost identical profile, with sliding rear doors that facilitate ingress and egress, and long windows at the back that provide an airy feel. Lexus’ large grille is flanked by angular headlights at the front that incorporate LED daytime running lights, as a previous teaser showed. Toyota’s latest Alphard is offered with various powertrains, including a hybrid variant that could find its way in the LM, given that Lexus has trademarked the LM 300h moniker. The 3.5-liter V6 gasoline unit is another plausible candidate, as the LM 350 nameplate has been secured as well. Custom...

McLaren’s “Grand Tourer” Drops Heavy Camo To Reveal Sensational Looks

Image
First teased at the Geneva Motor Show last month, McLaren’s upcoming “Grand Tourer” model returns in the most revealing official shots yet. Mind you, it’s still completely covered in camouflage, but it has dropped the shape-changing, additional body panels previously used to hide its silhouette. As a result, we can admire for the first time the car’s lines — and there’s a lot to admire as you can see. The as-yet-unnamed McLaren “Grand Tourer” has all it takes to become the brand’s best-looking car. The first shot of the front end reveals sleek new headlights that are still inspired by the McLaren logo, yet are no longer recessed as with most recent cars from Woking. It is definitely an elegant, flowing design befitting a grand tourer but still recognizable as a McLaren. We can also spot an aggressively-cut front bumper, massive side air intakes for the mid-mounted twin-turbo V8 engine, and a long rear section that ends with two illuminated stripes acting as the car’s tailli...

Mercedes-Benz Will Launch GLB Concept At Shanghai Auto Show

Image
Mercedes has used the social media to announce it will launch its GLB Concept to the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show, which kicks off in mid-April. The announcement is accompanied by a teaser image, which provides a glimpse inside the show car, revealing an almost production-ready interior with the MBUX dual-screen setup as the dominating feature. Elsewhere, there are three air vents in the middle of the dashboard, climate control settings right underneath and a large stowage space further down, just like in the scooped prototypes. The study also gets a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, electrically adjustable front seats with memory function and other equipment that will be detailed in due course. Slotting between the GLA and GLC, the GLB is a rather boxy-looking premium subcompact SUV, just like the discontinued GLK. It’s expected to use a variety of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, coming from the rest of the brand’s compact models, and will also receive two AMG ve...

Ford Brings Back Puma As A Small Crossover, Will Go On Sale This Year

Image
Ford’s new small crossover will be named the Puma. The moniker has thus made a comeback in the brand’s portfolio after a 17-year hiatus. Unlike the previous Puma, which was a small coupe built between 1997 and 2002, the new one is described as an “SUV-inspired crossover” with emphasis on versatility. The automaker says it has “best-in-class luggage capacity and flexibility”, and a 456-liter (16.1 cu-ft) boot capacity. Teased for the first time, the Fiesta-based crossover has distinctive styling cues with wing-top mounted headlights, aerodynamic lines and raised ride-height. Ford has went for an urban-like approach, as the model shown in the two official pictures has no plastic cladding. The new Ford Puma is reportedly going to be marketed alongside the existing EcoSport as a sportier alternative rather that outright replacing it. “Innovatively engineered and seductively styled, we thing Puma is going to really resonate with compact car customers in Europe”, said Ford of Europe...

2020 Lincoln Corsair Teased As MKC Replacement Ahead Of NY Auto Show

Image
Lincoln has confirmed the official premiere of the all-new Corsair for April 17, at the 2019 New York International Auto Show. The carmaker hasn’t said anything else about the new SUV, but it did drop a teaser, which provides a first official look at the MKC’s replacement and the brand’s smallest SUV. Recent prototypes indicate that it will look like a smaller Aviator, with a simpler lower styling at the front, LED headlights and an evolved clam-shell tailgate. It will also have a slightly slopped roofline to give it a sportier vibe. The cabin design is expected to be more luxurious than the one of the MKC, with chrome and wood trims, as well as high-quality leather. Those willing to spend even more on the upcoming Corsair will be able to specify the Black Label package, mimicking the equipment offered in its larger sibling. The SUV won’t miss out on the SYNC3 infotainment system, customizable LCD instrument cluster, smartphone integration and other technologies either. Ridi...

Hyundai Venue Crossover To Premiere At New York Auto Show

Image
An all-new crossover from Hyundai will premiere at next month’s New York Auto Show. Dubbed the 2020 Hyundai Venue, the vehicle will be the smallest crossover the South Korean automaker has built. It will appeal to younger buyers looking to have a good time. That plays in with the name ‘Venue’, which Hyundai says has been selected in reference to a place where people want to be seen. It’s, therefore, a slightly different naming scheme than existing Hyundai crossover and SUV models named after specific locations, like the Kona and Santa Fe. Limited details about the vehicle are known and a teaser of the crossover simply shows off the large ‘Venue’ badge on the rear. In the lead up to the vehicle’s premiere on April 17, we do expect Hyundai to release more teasers, however. The baby crossover from Hyundai has been spied in various locations around the world and some publications assert that it is related to the Carlino concept presented in India three years ago. If that’s the cas...

Aston Martin DBS GT Zagato Comes Bundled With DB4 Continuation, Costs £6 Million

Image
Fresh off presenting not one, but three all-new supercars at the recent Geneva Motor Show, Aston Martin is also releasing a new, limited-run model named the DBS GT Zagato. Previewed in a few official renderings, it’s been created to mark the 100th anniversary of the Italian design house and almost 60 years of collaboration between the two companies. Essentially a re-bodied version of the DBS Superleggera, the new DBS GT Zagato will be sold as part of the DBZ Centenary Collection and will be made in just 19 examples. Each one comes with a DB4 GT Zagato Continuation as well and costs a whopping £6 million ($7.9/€7 million) in the United Kingdom, before taxes. Visually, the new supercar sets itself apart with the double-bubble roof reminiscent of the original Aston Martin Zagatos. It also gets a huge gaping grille, muscular bonnet, wide wrap-around windscreen, muscular rear haunches, new grille, headlights and unique wheels. Aston hasn’t announced any technical deta...

BMW Drops First 2-Series Gran Coupe Teaser Ahead Of November L.A. Premiere

Image
We’ve known for a while that BMW was planning to launch the 2-Series Gran Coupe, and now we have official confirmation that the car is a few months away from being unveiled. Set to premiere at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show in November before going on sale in global markets next spring, the 2-Series Gran Coupe has been teased for the first time. The image released by the automaker previews the C-pillar, rear fenders, small boot lid spoiler, shark-fin antenna and slim LED taillights. The 2-Series Gran Coupe will use the same underpinnings as the new 1-Series, which is also in development and will be unveiled this year. However, while lesser versions of the car will have to make do with FWD, the upper grades will get the xDrive all-wheel drive system. One of the models that will enjoy the all-wheel drive is the range-topping M240i. This version is believed to utilize the same engine as the X2 M35i, namely a 2.0-liter four-banger making 306 PS (302 hp / 225 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb...

Xpeng Will Launch New All-Electric E28 Four-Door Sedan At Shanghai Show

Image
Xpeng Motors has dropped a teaser previewing its latest model that’s set to premiere at the Shanghai Auto Show next month. Xpeng first came across the radar with the release of the G3 SUV last year. Since then, the Chinese electric car manufacturer has been developing a new four-door sedan which it dubs a “mass production model.” The vehicle, codenamed E28, has been pencilled in for a commercial launch at the end of 2019. Limited details about its electric powertrain have been provided, but Xpeng claims that the E28 will come equipped with Nvidia’s AI supercompeting platform which supports Level 3 autonomous driving features. The E28 is also set to have an impressive driving range as well as decent levels of performance. “Our in-house operating system and proprietary autonomous driving software built on NVidia’s powerful Xavier chip make E28 the most advanced production model in terms of user interface design and intelligent features in today’s China auto market,” vice preside...

Porsche’s Electric Taycan Shows Its Face On First Official Images

Image
Following a set of sketches, Porsche has released the first official images of the Taycan EV in its production form. The pictured car is wearing a colorful wrap to keep some of the final details a secret but we can get a pretty good idea of what the first all-electric Porsche will look like. Featuring the slogan “Soul, Electrified” on the windshield, the new Porsche Taycan comes with a front end that looks and feels like a Porsche; the headlights appear to wear a sticker that make them look like the units in the Cayman and Boxster models but look closely and you’ll notice the quad-LED units per corner in a similar arrangement with the Mission E concept. The overall design appears to remain close to that of the concept, minus of course dramatic details such as the suicide rear doors. The production Taycan will feature a set of ‘normal’ doors instead, which will use handles that sit flush with the bodywork, in a similar fashion with the latest 911. You can also notice the ch...

Fisker Drops First Image Of New Sub-$40k Electric SUV With 300 Miles Of Range

Image
Henrik Fisker has released the first teaser image of a new electric SUV with “close to 300 miles” of driving range and a price tag of under $40,000. This new electric SUV is the second vehicle announced by Fisker Inc. and is set to launch in the market in the second half of 2021. This means that it will be the first car to be offered by the company, as the already announced EMotion electric luxury sedan has been pushed back from its original late-2019 launch date. Fisker said that the Emotion will be launched after the mass-market electric SUV, partly because the former’s solid-state battery pack technology isn’t yet ready for a market release. The new Fisker SUV remains unnamed at this point but the company did release a few details, namely a 80kWh battery pack and the 300-mile driving range, both of which will be available on the base model. If Fisker delivers on its promise, it will place its SUV above the base Tesla Model Y, which is expected to offer around 220 to 230 mil...

2020 Karma Revero Teased, Will Be Faster Than Its Predecessor

Image
Karma Automotive has released the first teaser image of the 2020 Revero, ahead of its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show next month. The teaser isn’t very revealing, but it shows the Revero will have an evolutionary design with restyled headlights. That isn’t much to go on, but Karma said we can expect an “even more stunning” design than its predecessor. While Karma describes the 2020 Revero as “all-new,” previous spy photos have suggested this isn’t necessarily the case. Instead, it appears the car will be getting a minor facelift that focuses on updating the front and rear fascias. This is long overdue as the original Fisker Karma debuted at the 2008 North American International Auto Show and its design hasn’t changed much in the past 11 years. The updated Revero will go on sale in the second half of 2019 and the company says the car will be smarter and faster than its predecessor. This statement suggests the model could be getting an upgraded powertrain, but there’s no word on...
