New Lotus Emira With AMG A35 And Toyota V6 Engines Is Brand’s Farewell To Combustion Cars

Image
Earlier this year Lotus announced it was dropping the Elise, Exige and Evora in preparation for the arrival of a range of hybrid and fully electric sports car and crossovers. But there’s just time for one last Lotus ICE adventure before the EVs arrive. Called the Emira, and projected to cost less than £60,000 ($84,500), it’s the natural replacement for the Evora, and will battle cars like the Porsche 718 Cayman when it goes on sale in Europe in spring 2022, and the U.S. at the end of that year. Closely following the Lotus sports car recipe familiar since the introduction of the Elise in 1996, the Emira rides on a new version of the company’s bonded and riveted aluminium chassis. And it’s almost exactly the same size as the Evora, riding on the same 101.4-inch (2575mm) wheelbase, and measuring an additional 0.8-inches (20mm) between front and rear bumpers. Lotus claims the new car represents “a paradigm shift in levels of practicality, comfort, functionality and technology”. And one of ...

2023 Kia Sportage Debuts With Bold New Styling, Vastly Improved Interior

Image
Compact crossovers tend to be dull and uninspiring, but you certainly can’t say that about the all-new Kia Sportage revealed here in its international form as a 2022 model, with the European-specification version to follow in September, and the North American variant that will carry the 2023MY moniker to debut later on. Set to be launched later this year in several global markets, the redesigned crossover is a radical departure from its predecessor as it adopts a “thought-provoking and daring” Opposites United design philosophy. The all-new look is immediately apparent up front as the model features a bold grille with a black mesh lower section. It’s flanked by boomerang-shaped daytime running lights, which create “solid boundary lines for the striking head lamps.” While the front end will undoubtedly prove controversial, it’s hard to argue with the rest of the Sportage’s styling. The bubbly bodywork of its predecessor has been replaced by taut lines, clean creases and more expressive ...

2023 Cadillac Lyriq Electric SUV Unveiled In Production Form, Arrives Next Year For Under $60k

Image
Cadillac is transitioning to an electric-only brand and that process is underway as the company has unveiled the 2023 Lyriq. Previewed by last year’s thinly-veiled concept, the production model is the “culmination of a century of innovation and the beginning of a great new era.” As you can see, the 2023 Lyriq closely echoes the concept as it features a black crystal grille with an illuminated emblem as well as lights that activate in choreographed sequences. The model also has “slim-line” LED headlights and a lightly revised front bumper. Moving further back, we can see flush-mounted door handles and conventional side mirrors. While the latter is a change from the concept, the production model retains distinctive taillights which wraparound the side of the vehicle and continue up the rear pillar. The model also comes standard with 20-inch wheels, but 22-inchers will be optional. The Lyriq measures 196.7 inches (4996 mm) long, 77.8 inches (1977 mm) wide and 63.9 inches (1623 mm) tall wi...

McLaren To Unveil 18 New Models, Including P1 Successor, Until 2025

Image
At Goodwood, McLaren has announced its new Track25 business plan, aimed at taking the British automaker well into the next decade. Among the milestones set by the Track25 roadmap is to ensure that McLaren’s entire sports car and supercar range will feature hybrid power within the next seven years, among them a new Ultimate Series that will succeed the petrol-electric P1. McLaren will also evaluate new augmented driving features in order to develop a lighter, superfast-charging, high-power battery system for performance applications, expected to offer more than 30 minutes of electric range around a race track. The soon-to-open McLaren Composites Technology Center (MCTC) will be where the automaker will develop and manufacture lightweight technology. Once operational, the MCTC will ensure that roughly 57% of vehicle content by value will be UK-sourced. Mostly, though, the focus will be to develop 18 new models or derivatives that should lift production by almost 75%, meaning b...

Aston Martin To Launch Two New Lagonda Models By 2023

Image
Aston Martin is working on a variety of different models including the Vantage, Vanquish, and Valkyrie but CEO Andy Palmer has just confirmed the company is also working to revive the Lagonda brand. In an interview with Car & Driver, Palmer confirmed the company has plans to offer two new Lagonda models that will target consumers who typically buy vehicles from Bentley and Rolls-Royce. The vehicles are scheduled to be launched by 2023 and will aim to offer a unique combination of luxury, style, and performance. Little is known about the models but Palmer said "I don’t want either of them to be what you’d call a traditional sedan." The executive went on to say he's challenged the company's designers to come up with something special that can still appeal to a "relatively conservative market" which is largely chauffeur-driven. Despite suggesting he wasn't looking for a traditional sedan, Palmer seemingly ruled out the possibility of either of ...
