Up until recently, performance SUVs were exclusive to premium car brands. Well, mainstream automakers want a slice of that pie too, so models like this new VW T-Roc R are something we should get used to. Set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month, the T-Roc R marks the first time the “R” moniker is used on an SUV. Developed by Volkswagen R, the T-Roc R offers roughly the same power as a Golf R. It uses the same 2.0-liter TSI turbo-four that produces 300 PS (296 hp) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. Hooked to a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission and standard 4Motion all-wheel drive, the gasoline engine enables the T-Roc R to boast impressive performance for an SUV. The 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint takes just 4.9 seconds and top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph). Volkswagen has launched a new Performance Pack for the UK market 2018 Golf R, which not only de-restricts top speed, but also shaves some pounds and adds a few extras. Available as an option for the DSG versions of the Golf R hatch and estate, it includes an upgraded braking system that shaves 2 kilograms (4.4 lbs), 19-inch Spielberg alloy wheels that replace the stock 18-inch Cadiz rims, and in the case of the hatch, a new tailgate-mounted spoiler. Moreover, specifying the Performance Pack to the latest iteration Volkswagen Golf R means that top speed will increase in both hatch and wagon variants of the vehicle, from 155mph (250km/h), to 166mph (267km/h) and 168mph (270km/h), respectively. VW is extending the  range of its facelifted Golf family  in Europe with the addition of the high-performance ‘R’, entry level 1.0 TSI, and 2.0 TDI 4MOTION models. As with the other updated 2017MY Golfs, they too come with LED tail lights and the new Composition Color infotainment system as standard. Available in both hatchback and  Variant (station wagon) flavors , the Golf R benefits from a 10PS (10hp) and 20Nm (15 lb-ft) boost, pushing the 2.0-liter turbo four’s output to 310PS (306hp) and 400Nm (295 lb-ft). VW says the ‘R’ hatch can hit 100km/h (62mph) in 4.6 seconds.  In Germany , you can pre-order the Golf R with a manual gearbox from €40,675, and the Golf R Variant with a DSG from €44,800. The  new 718 Boxster  will be joined by a second world premiere from Porsche at the  Geneva Motor Show next  week, one that the company simply describes as a “a strictly limited-edition vehicle”. Porsche wouldn’t give out any other details on the surprise car, but we’ve heard from multiple sources that it’s going to be  the new 911 R , a back-to-basics performance version derived from the GT3 and GT3 RS without some of their crazy aerodynamic addenda, but more crucially, with a seven speed manual gearbox.  We’ll remind you that both the 911 GT3 and its  even more hardcore GT3 RS sibling  can only be had with Porsche’s PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission.  While some sources say that the 911 R will get a slightly de-tuned version of the GT3’s normally aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six with around 450hp instead of 468hp (475PS), others claim that Porsche may just give it the GT3 RS’ naturally-aspirated 493hp (500PS) 4.0-liter flat-six.  ...
