Ford has finally unveiled the 2021 Mustang Mach-E, a dedicated electric SUV. Putting the aside the obvious sullying of the Mustang name, the Mach-E is a relatively stylish crossover with an aggressive front fascia and a fully enclosed grille. The latter is surrounded by slender LED lighting units and a sporty lower bumper. The aggressive design language continues further back as the Mach-E has a rakish windscreen, a coupe-like roofline and softly curved surfaces. The model also boasts bulging rear fenders, a dynamic greenhouse and hidden door handles that bring a touch of class to a mainstream brand. Unfortunately, the rear end isn’t as lucky. It features a bloated tailgate with Mustang-inspired taillights that appear to have been tacked on with little thought to aesthetics. Putting those criticisms aside, the crossover also has a rakish rear window, a tailgate-mounted spoiler and a black lower bumper. Ford has released the first official image of its upcoming all-electric SUV that will borrow heavily from the Mustang from a design point of view. The design sketch reveals the rear end of the vehicle, which features three-piece taillights clearly inspired from the Mustang and a muscular shape with wide haunches. The Mach 1 is developed by a brand-new team called Ford Team Edison, which focuses exclusively on electrified vehicles from Ford and Lincoln. Known internally as CX430, the electric crossover will be a globally engineered model that will share the C2 front-drive platform with the latest Focus. It will sit alongside the next-generation Escape/Kuga in Ford’s lineup, and it’s expected to offer a more road-focused character. Ford says it targets a driving range of 300 miles (483 km) for its electric utility vehicle. Ford has unveiled the Eagle Squadron Mustang GT at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Designed to pay tribute to the Eagle Squadron and the Royal Air Force’s 100th anniversary, the one-off model was jointly developed with professional drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr. His involvement in the project is clearly visible as the car has been equipped with an RTR carbon fiber widebody kit. The changes don’t stop there as the Mustang has a front spoiler, canards and an RTR illuminated grille. Designers also installed aerodynamic side skirts and a Gurney flap on the existing rear spoiler. Lastly, the car was given an eye-catching camouflage exterior which draws inspiration from the Spitfire fighters used by the Eagle Squadron. Drivers will find a custom leather interior with Recaro racing seats featuring embroidered Eagle Squadron logos. Other unique touches include a hand-engraved shift knob made from F-35 Lightning parts and a hand-engraved badge featuring aluminum sourced from a Spitfire. ...

The announcement was made with little fanfare as it was tucked away in the company’s first quarter financial results. Buried underneath various statistics is a rather blunt statement that the company will “not invest in next generations of traditional Ford sedans for North America.” Instead, models such as the Fusion, Fiesta and Taurus will be phased out over the next few years. The company isn’t abandoning cars altogether as the company will keep the Mustang. Ford also confirmed plans to launch the all-new Focus Active in North America next year. Ford will enter the Mustang in the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series on the back of another record-setting year for the road car. The new Mustang will replace the Fusion in NASCAR and celebrate its on-track debut at Daytona in February 2019. It will be just the fourth Ford model in NASCAR’s modern era following on from the Thunderbird, Taurus, and Fusion. Initial testing of the Mustang stock car is still underway and it will be formally submitted to NASCAR for approval this summer. This announcement comes alongside news that the Ford Mustang is the world’s best-selling sports car for the third straight year. In 2017, a total of 125,809 new Mustangs were registered around the world. Unsurprisingly, the United States remains the Mustang’s largest market with 81,866 units registered last year. Thinking about picking up a new Mustang? Great, now you’ll just need to choose which one. And Ford may have just made your decision a little more difficult. Returning to the 2019 lineup is the California Special, a new edition of Dearborn’s pony car that revives the look and feel of a classic. The name first surfaced way back in 1968 when Ford took stylistic inspiration from the ’67 Shelby GT prototype and offered it as an aesthetic upgrade package for the original Mustang. Now half a century later, the California Special returns with an array of enhancements. Ford has confirmed one of the worst kept secrets in Detroit, a new Mustang Shelby GT500 is coming to battle the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. Described as the "pinnacle of Mustang performance," the GT500 will be a fast-back coupe that is twice as powerful as the original 1967 model. Ford is keeping detailed specifications under wraps but the automaker confirmed the car is projected to produce more than 700 hp (522 kW). Power will be provided by a supercharged V8 engine and it will enable the Mustang to become the most powerful street-legal production model Ford has ever produced. The GT500 will even surpass the output of the Ford GT which has a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 that develops 647 hp (482 kW). The outrageous performance won't be limited to the engine as Ford says the Mustang has been "engineered to stand apart on roadways and race tracks." The rumors were true as Ford presented a new generation of its lauded Mustang Bullitt based on the S-550 at the Detroit auto show on Sunday. Ford fed this 2019 special-edition Mustang a manual transmission, where the gear shifter features a white cue ball knob as a nod to the car that lit up our movie screens 50 years ago. The new Bullitt is also wearing everything from the Mustang GT Premium and Performance Package, while its upgraded 5.0-liter V8 engine pushes down 475 HP and 420 lb-ft (570 Nm) of torque, allowing for a top speed of 163 mph (263 km/h). Standard equipment includes the leather steering wheel, unique green accent stitching and a 12" all-digital LCD instrument cluster (identical to the one in the 2018 Mustang), although the Bullitt comes with a unique welcome screen that features an image of the car instead of the pony logo. Following a preview last month, Roush Performance has officially unveiled the 729 Mustang at SEMA. Drawing inspiration from the 1970 Boss 429 Mustang, the 729 Mustang has a custom wide-body kit and a Sherwin-Williams Grabber Green exterior which pays tribute to the classic pony car. The model also features a functional hood scoop and unique fender flares which were 3D printed by Stratasys. Designers also installed a number of carbon fiber components including a front splitter, side skirts, and a rear spoiler. There are also carbon fiber mirror caps, a revised grille, and a blackout appliqué on the rear of the car. Other notable highlights include an adjustable suspension and custom 20-inch Vossen wheels which backed up by Brembo brakes. The car's interior has been extensively modified as it features Recaro racing seats, a roll cage, and Katzkin leather upholstery. The Chevrolet Camaro has managed to snatch away the muscle car sales crown from the Ford Mustang following a successful April. Last month, a total of 8,737 Camaros found new homes in the United States compared to the 8,063 Ford Mustangs that were sold. Despite only being a relatively small advantage for Chevrolet’s third-best-selling model, it does return the Camaro to a spot it once dominated. Prior to the sixth-generation Mustang being launched, the Camaro was consistently the highest-selling muscle car in the U.S. and dominated the top spot for the better part of five years from 2010. However, sales of the fifth-gen Camaro started to dwindle in its final year of production and even when the sixth-gen model hit the market, it failed to receive the sales reception many had expected. The tide changed so dramatically for Chevrolet that the Camaro only managed to reclaim the top spot from the Mustang in October 2016 after almost two years of being outsold by its nearest rival. ...

The Super Snake name is synonymous for being applied to some of the craziest Ford Mustangs ever created by Shelby and for the most part, these cars have been designed as straight-line monsters that can out-pace European exotics. With its new Super Snake, officially dubbed the Widebody Concept, Shelby has gone down a different route by creating a hardcore Mustang that has been designed to deliver the ultimate in performance around a racetrack. Shelby has yet to make a decision about whether or not the concept will reach production but the finished product looks ready to show the Camaro ZL1 what it's capable of with an overhauled exterior and interior and most importantly, some serious mechanical modifications. Shelby American celebrates five decades from the birth of the original and famous Super Snake with a new, limited Anniversary Edition. The reveal took place at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction, with the 2017  Super Snake Mustang  to be offered in 500 units and starting from $69,995 MSRP.  Shelby American collaborated with Ford Performance on improving the suspension and upgrading the braking system with big Wilwood rotors and six-piston calipers. Ford’s 5.0-litre V8 is now supercharged and makes 670hp as standard, with optional superchargers on offer able to pump out over 750hp.  Shelby claims that a  ‘properly optioned’ Super Snake  can hit a 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds, on pump gas and Michelin street tires, and run the quarter mile in just 10.9 seconds.
