2022 Bentley Bentayga S Debuts With Sportier Styling, V8 Power And Plenty Of Alcantara

Image
The Bentley Bentayga lineup is expanding as the company has introduced a new S variant that joins the existing standard V8, plug-in hybrid and W12-powered flagship models. Designed to deliver “heightened agility and presence,” the Bentayga S features a sportier exterior with tinted lighting units, gloss black accents and a larger rear spoiler for increased aerodynamic stability at speed. Elsewhere, there’s a free-flowing sports exhaust system that delivers “enhanced character and volume” for a “more performance-oriented feel.” It’s joined by 22-inch wheels which are available in three different finishes. They’re silver painted as standard, but gloss black and black / bright polished finishes are also available. The sporty styling continues in the cabin as designers added “fluted” seats with embroidered S logos on the backrests. The model also boasts unique trim, illuminated treadplates and a digital instrument cluster sourced from the Bentayga Speed. Of course, the most noticeable chan...

The New 650 HP Bentley Continental GT Speed Is A Country Gent’s GT-R

Image
Bentley claims its new Continental GT Speed is a more than just speedy in a straight line. The latest high performance version of the already rapid GT coupe comes with four-wheel steering and an electronically controlled rear differential to make sure the 5,000lb monster can do corners, too. That wasn’t always the case with the old car. Sure, it was great to push through fast open bends, but throw in some tighter curves and it was all too easy to overwhelm the front tires. But Bentley is so confident in the difference the new hardware makes, it’s calling the Speed ‘the most capable, performance-focused Bentley ever.’ Let’s deal with the Speed bit first. The 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 gets a mild upgrade from 626 hp to 640 hp, while torque stays the same at 664 lb ft. The top speed climbs 1mph to 208mph and the zero to 60mph time is now 3.5 seconds, down from 3.6 seconds in the standard W12 Conti GT. But Bentley has done plenty of work to ensure the difference feels bigger. Switch ...

Bentley Mulliner Bacalar Is A Coachbuilt Roofless Two-Seater With Daring Looks

Image
A new ultra-exclusive coachbuilt Bentley is here, named after the Laguna Bacalar in Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula. Created by the company’s Mulliner coach-building division, the Bacalar boasts daring looks, inspired by the 2019 EXP 100 GT Concept. The rounded headlights and thin LED DRLs flank the new grille that has become smaller compared to the show car. The overall shape of the bumper carries over, albeit with bigger side creases and more generous lower air intakes, while the hood features a similar design and the front wheel arches are less bulky. It sits on 22-inch wheels and has a 20 mm (0.8 in) wider rear track than the Continental GT. With an Aston Martin vibe, the back end looks more toned down compared to the EXP 100 GT. The bumper is different and incorporates a diffuser that leaves room for the rectangular tailpipes, because unlike the study, which had an electric powertrain with four motors that developed a combined output of 1,340 horsepower and 1,100 lb-ft (1,4...

Bentley Looks Into The Future With The Electric EXP 100 GT Concept

Image
Bentley has finally revealed the EXP 100 GT concept, a fully electric luxury gran turismo designed to show what the company’s models might look like in the year 2035. The new EXP 100 GT also marks the company’s centenary to the day, featuring a fully electric powertrain with four electric motors, a torque vectoring system and a combined output of up to 1,340hp and 1,100lb-ft (1,491Nm) of torque. Bentley claims that the EXP 100 GT is capable of a 0-60mph in less than 2.5 seconds and of a top speed of 186mph (300km/h). With future battery technology expected to offer five times the current energy density, it’s no wonder that the EXP 100 GT is said to be capable of charging to 80 percent of capacity in only 15 minutes. Driving range is set at 435 miles (700km) on a full charge while weight is kept at 1,900kg (4,188lbs), which is mighty impressive for a car of this size. Speaking of which, the design study measures 5.8 meters long and almost 2.4 meters wide (19.02 and 7.87...

2020 Bentley Flying Spur Unveiled As World’s Best “Luxury Grand Touring Sports Sedan”

Image
As promised, Bentley has finally lifted the veils of the third-generation Flying Spur which marks a series of technological upgrades for the nameplate. Not that much has changed from a design standpoint, though, as the luxury sedan looks more like an evolution of its predecessor than an all-new model. Nevertheless, a closer look reveals that the new Flying Spur is cut from the same cloth as the latest Continental GT with which it shares the platform and underpinnings. Bentley describes it as “the world’s most advanced luxury Grand Touring sports sedan,” as if it wants to cover all the bases by using this description. As with its predecessors, the 2020 Flying Spur is said to combine limousine luxury and sports sedan performance while adopting “cutting-edge customer-focused technology” — starting with its totally new and advanced aluminum and composite chassis as well as 48-volt active anti-roll bars. For example, it features Electronic All-Wheel Steering for the first t...

Bentley Unveils Continental GT V8 Models With 542 HP On Tap

Image
Bentley has just unveiled two brand new versions of its third-generation Continental GT and GT Convertible models, both available with a new 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 petrol unit, producing 542 HP (550 PS) and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque. In a straight line, the Coupe can rocket to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.9 seconds (Convertible 4.0 sec), and will top out at 198 mph (318 km/h). Customer deliveries in the U.S. will commence in Q3 of this year, with availability for other regions to be scheduled starting in Q1 of 2020. The new-generation 4.0-liter 32-valve V8 unit features dual twin-scroll turbochargers located inside the ‘V’ of the engine. The 550 PS and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) are sufficient so as to help both versions (Coupe and Convertible) stay within 0.1 seconds of each other. Their 0-100 km/h (62 mph) times are 4.0 seconds for the fixed-roof model and 4.1 seconds for the drop top. In suitable conditions, the engine can even de-activate four of its eight cylinders, ...

Bentley Continental GT Number 9 By Mulliner Pays Tribute To ‘Blower’ Le Mans Racer

Image
Following a not-so-revealing teaser, the new Bentley Continental GT Number 9 Edition by Mulliner has been unveiled ahead of its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show. The new special edition of the Continental GT will be handcrafted by Mulliner in just 100 copies, with the specification inspired by the brand’s motorsport heritage and the Number 9 badging honoring the historic ‘Blower’ Bentley Le Mans race car. Each of the 100 examples of the Conti GT Number 9 Edition will actually feature a wood insert from the seat of the actual Le Mans race car, removed during a “sympathetic” renovation, on their special interior. The piece is set in resin and positioned in the middle of the center dial of the rotating display. Customers will get to choose between Cumbrian Green or Beluga heritage hides that feature increased gloss levels to the seats, inner door panels and elsewhere. The center console features a special aluminum ‘Engine Spin’ trim that’s was a popular finish for racing ...

Bentley Reveals 190MPH Bentayga Speed, World’s New Fastest SUV

Image
This is the new Bentley Bentayga Speed, the awaited performance version of an already quite powerful luxury SUV. Bentley claims that the new Bentayga Speed is the world’s new fastest SUV, featuring a top speed of 190 mph (305km/h) which is 0.5 mph quicker than what the previous record holder, the Lamborghini Urus, can achieve (189.5 mph). Power comes from an updated version of the twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 engine, which now offers 626hp (635PS) and 664lb-ft (900Nm) of torque. Compared to the regular Bentayga, the Speed variant offers 26hp more but the same amount of torque. 0-62mph (100km/h) is now a matter of 3.9 seconds (down from 4.1). From the outside, the new Bentayga Speed distinguishes itself with dark-tint headlights, radiator and bumper grilles, model-specific 22-inch alloy wheels, body-colored side skirts, a noticeable tailgate spoiler and discreet ‘Speed’ badging. The theme continues inside with a unique color-split theme that blends Alcantara, leather and...

New Bentley Continental GT Convertible Is A No-Compromise Continent Crusher

Image
Bentley has lifted the veil off the new Continental GT Convertible, the open-top variant of its luxury gran tourer. The posh convertible gran tourer comes with a tailored soft top that can be deployed or stowed in 19 seconds, with the car travelling up to 30 mph (50km/h). Bentley will offer customers the option between seven different hood colors, including an authentic tweed finish for the first time. Bentley says that the new fabric soft top features new sealing and acoustic treatments, making the new Continental GT Convertible as quiet as the previous generation Continental GT Coupe. The new Bentley Continental GT C also features a new neckwarmer system, that’s both quieter and warmer than the previous model, integrated into the heated 20-way adjustable Comfort seats. The new comfort feature gets a chrome center vane that stretches across the full width of the duct, mimicking the style of Bentley’s ‘bullseye’ vents. Combined with features such as the heated steerin...

Bentley Mulsanne W.O. Edition By Mulliner Is Craftsmanship At Its Finest

Image
Back in 1919, Walter Owen (W.O.) Bentley founded his car company with a clear goal in mind: to build “a fast car, a good car, the best in class”. Fast forward to present day and Bentley is simply flourishing under the close watch of the Volkswagen Group. And as fans of the brand based in Crewe know, they’re getting ready to celebrate the centenary, next year. A first step has already been taken in this direction, with the unveiling of the new Mulsanne W.O. Edition by Mulliner. The luxury model is limited to 100 examples and pays homage to the founding father of the company, while “incorporating a genuine piece of Bentley history in every car”, says the automaker. What they’re referring to here is a piece of the original crankshaft taken from Walter Owen’s own 8 Liter car, the last model he designed for Bentley, and displaying it inside the Mulsanne. The piece can be found in the rear central armrest, accompanied by a special plaque that tells its story, and is joined ...
