See The Restyled 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class And E53 AMG Coupe And Convertible Models

Image
Mercedes-Benz has spread out its mid-cycle facelift for the E-Class with the presentation of the 2021 sedan, wagon and All Terrain Wagon in March this year being followed today by the unveiling of the long teased Coupe and Convertible models in both regular and E53 AMG forms. It’s nothing groundbreaking with the revised two-door variants sporting minor exterior and interior styling tweaks, new technologies and updated powertrain offerings. Mercedes has a good thing going with the E-Class Coupe and Convertible, as admittedly, both are some of the most elegant looking proposals in the market. As such, there was no reason to ruin a successful formula with deep styling cuts. The most noticeable changes are the newly shaped grille and crispier light treatments on both ends, with the nose looking more upright this time around. There are four new paint colors too, named Cirrus Silver Metallic, Graphite Grey Metallic, Mojave Silver Metallic and designo Patagonia Red Metallic. The wheel line-up...

Mercedes-Benz Gives 2021 E-Class A Face And Tail Lift Along With New Straight-Six

Image
After the coronavirus outbreak got the best of the 2020 Geneva Motor Show, automakers took to the web to present their world premieres. For Mercedes-Benz, this includes the refreshed E-Class family, which follow tradition by getting a subtle makeover and all the latest tech systems. In the design department, Benz played it safe, subtly tweaking an already well-received recipe. So what’s new about the latest executive model from Stuttgart? Well, it packs redesigned headlights, new front bumper and a wider grille, though you’ll have to head to the back to really tell a difference as Mercedes swapped the compact triangular lights for slimmer horizontal units inspired by the CLS on the sedan, with new trim joining them together and different rear bumper. Three new paint colors and an expanded wheel range complete the styling updates. Inside, the 2021 E-Class gains the latest generation MBUX infotainment system and a revised digital instrument panel graphics. It’s offered with t...

New Mercedes C- And E-Class Plug-In Hybrids Revealed With Diesel Engine

Image
On the eve of the Geneva Motor Show, Mercedes introduced new C- and E-Class plug-in hybrids. Set to go on sale this summer, the models will be equipped with a four-cylinder diesel engine, a nine-speed automatic transmission and a third-generation hybrid system. Mercedes was coy on specifics but confirmed the models will have a 13.5 kWh lithium-ion battery and an electric motor that produces 122 PS (90 kW) and 440 Nm (324 lb-ft) of torque. This will give the models an electric-only range of approximately 50 km (31 miles) and a total torque output of 700 Nm (516 lb-ft). The cars will also be able to hit speeds of up to 140 km/h (87 mph) while being driven by electricity. Speaking of electric power, the plug-in hybrids will be equipped with a new on-board charger which doubles the charging rate from 3.6 kW to 7.2 kW. Thanks to the improved system, the battery can be fully recharged in approximately two hours when used in conjunction with the company’s new Wallbox charger. Howe...

2018 Mercedes E-Class Debuts High-Tech 48V Turbo Four

Image
Mercedes is rolling out a series of new features, and they're starting under the hood of the E-Class coupe and convertible. While the revisions to the mid-range two-door models include new paint finishes, trim, and interior equipment, the big news here is the arrival of a cutting-edge new engine. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder in the new E350 coupe and cabrio border on hybrid thanks to their new 48-volt electrical system. The EQ Boost starter/alternator helps with ignition, low-end acceleration, coasting, brakeforce energy recuperation, and altogether running smoothly. With 299 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, the engine also performs closer to a six, running from 0-62 in 5.9 seconds (6.1 for the convertible) and top out at an electronically limited 155 miles per hour (250km/h)– all while returning 6.7 l/100km or 35 miles per gallon on the combined EU cycle. Aside from the engine, Benz has added more color choices, the Energizing suite from the S-Class (now ...

Mercedes Recalls Half A Million Vehicles For Unexpected Airbag Deployment

Image
Mercedes-Benz has announced the recall of nearly half a million vehicles across the United States due to a problem with their airbags. According to the recall notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the driver's airbag could unexpectedly deploy under certain conditions – but only if two problems arise at the same time, and apparently owing nothing to the massive Takata recall we'd associate with this kind of problem. If the air bag clockspring is broken, and an electrostatic discharge occurs, then the airbag in the steering wheel could deploy accidentally. That doesn't strike us as a scenario likely to happen very often. But since the deployment of the airbag could be disruptive, to say the least, it's probably a good thing that Mercedes is calling in any vehicles that could be affected. Included in the recall are various variants of the CLA, GLA, GLK, GLC, GLC Coupe, B-Class, C-Class (sedan, coupe, and convertible), and E-Class (sedan, w...

2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Convertible Looks Better Than Ever

Image
Mercedes-Benz has completed its E-Class lineup with the debut of the stylish Convertible model that follows the sedan, Estate, Coupe and the rugged E-Terrain wagon. Positioned between the smaller and somewhat sportier C-Class and the larger and more posh S-Class cabriolets, the E-Class Convertible adheres to the lines and body shape of its coupe brethren shedding the metal top for a retractable cloth roof. The result is a very elegant looking car, the design of which should withstand the test of time. The E-Class’ fabric soft top is available in dark brown, dark blue, dark red or black, and can be fully opened and closed in 20 seconds when travelling at a speed of up to 50 km/h (31 mph). It stores under a retractable cover with Mercedes promising a reasonable boot capacity of 385 liters, reduced to 310 liters when the roof is stowed. An increase in exterior dimensions (123mm / 4.8 in. longer, 74mm / 2.9 in. wider) together with a 113mm / 4.5 in. longer wheelbase than the previ...
