The third generation Suzuki Swift Sport made its global premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show. As expected, the new Japanese hot hatch ditches the naturally aspirated 1.6-liter engine of the previous model for the company’s 1.4-liter BoosterJet unit which makes 138hp and 169lb-ft (230Nm) of torque. The new model is also lighter by 80kg compared to its predecessor, tipping the scales at just 970kg. The new platform is not only lighter however but stiffer and safer as well. The 1.4-liter BoosterJet engine features direct injection, a short-port intake manifold and an integrated to the cylinder head exhaust manifold. Paired to it is the six-speed manual transmission used in the previous Swift Sport but now it has been tuned for improved smoothness, better feel and increased rigidity. Suzuki has confirmed the latest generation of the Swift Sport for the Frankfurt Motor Show, releasing its first official photo as well. The compact hot hatch is set to continue the company’s hot-hatch tradition, only this time the time has come for its zingy, naturally aspirated 1.6-liter engine to retire and make way for a turbocharged unit. The new engine will most likely come from the Vitara’s range and is no other than the turbocharged 1.4-liter BoosterJet unit, which makes 138 HP and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque in the case of Suzuki’s SUV model. Combine this with a really low kerb weight, with reports talking as low as 870kg (1,918lbs), and the new Suzuki Swift Sport suddenly sounds hotter than ever, as it will deliver an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 159hp per ton. We've seen the  spy shots , we've seen the  leaked images ... but now it's official:  Suzuki  has revealed the  all-new Swift . Shown and detailed here in JDM spec, the new hatchback looks exactly as expected – which is, to say, instantly recognizable as a Suzuki Swift, but as a completely new one. In its home market, the new Swift will be offered in seven trim levels with three engine options: a 1.2-liter inline four is the base engine, but a mild hybrid version of the same will also be offered – along with a 1.0-liter turbo in the sportiest RSt model. Output figures have yet to be released, but a number of drivetrain configurations have. The hybrid is mated (as is typical) to a CVT, while the base engine offers a no-cost five-speed manual option as well. Additional pictures and details of the  next-generation  Suzuki Swift have surfaced online following the emergence of a leaked brochure of the new hatchback. As with a recent  leaked image , this brochure reveals that the Swift’s new bodywork will make it look much more modern than the outgoing car. At the front, there are smaller headlights, a reshaped grille, overhauled bumper design and new black fog light surrounds.  Other new details visible include a blacked-out part in the C-pillar, new taillights and a number of interior refinements including a different gauge cluster, redesigned air vents and a cleaner and higher-class dashboard layout. An intriguing image of the updated Suzuki  Swift  has emerged online and despite its low resolution, it’s certainly provides us with our best look yet at the model. Earlier in the year, a number of apparent  official renderings  of the next-generation Swift emerged online, showcasing a much more modern and flowing design. This particular image also shows the Swift with a new look but it differs on a number of fronts from those renderings and, of course, the outgoing model. For starters, it has been fitted with a set of distinctive headlights with more curved edges than the current car. Additionally, the inner design of the headlight units themselves have been refined. Other noteworthy elements include the new fog lights and the black fog flight surrounds which stretch across the entire width of the front fascia. Unsurprisingly, there’s also a new grille. The hot version of the upcoming Swift is going to ditch its naturally aspirated powertrain in favor of a turbocharged 1,4-litre Boosterjet unit.  Autocar  reports that the next Swift Sport is going to be powered by an upgraded version of the 138hp 1.4-litre engine found  in the current Vitara S crossover , with the new model expected to tip the scales close to the 1,000 kg mark. The current model has bucked the downsizing trend, combining a high-revving 136hp 1.6-litre with a close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox. We've known for quite some time that the next-gen Japanese supermini  was on the works , though we had no info what it would look like. Renderings  such as the iK-2 Concept  turned into a production Swift were perhaps too conservative from the get go, as these leaked images certainly seem to suggest. The new Swift that is expected by the end of the year keeps the overall proportions of its predecessor but features sharper styling thanks to completely redesigned headlights, grille and large integrated air vents in the front bumper area, hidden rear door handles and unusually styled C-pillar. The back of the car features a "floating roofline", while the taillights now extend into the tailgate. Also, unlike the current model, the new taillight design is bulkier and less streamlined.
