Following a preview earlier this month, Acura has officially unveiled the Type S Concept ahead of its debut on August 15th. Designed to preview the upcoming TLX Type S, the concept is a bold departure for Acura as it adopts a sleek and stylish design that embraces “Precision Crafted Performance.” Starting up front, the model has an aggressive fascia with a prominent Diamond Pentagon grille. It is flanked by Jewel Eye LED headlights with “Chicane” daytime running lights that draw inspiration from the ARX-05 Daytona Prototype. Further below, we can see large air intakes and a stylish carbon fiber splitter that wraps around the front end. The Acura ILX has been updated for the 2019MY, with the facelift model obtaining the brand’s new corporate face without the steal beaks that was first previewed by the Precision Concept. Acura says that the compact sedan “is all-new from the A-pillars forward”, featuring the brand’s latest signature styling cues that include the diamond-shaped grille, multi-LED headlights and more heavily sculpted hood. Some similarities with the show car that premiered more than two years ago can be found at the rear end as well, which gets a new decklid, LED taillights and lower diffuser with aan exposed outlet. New wheel designs are part of the revisions, alongside five additional colors added to the palette. The RDX has been a top seller for Honda and its upscale Acura brand. In fact it’s sold over 50,000 of them every year for the past three – outselling the vast majority of its rivals. But now six years old, it’s beginning to show its age and lose its leadership. Fortunately Acura has revealed a new version at the New York Auto Show this week, ushering in the third generation of the compact luxury crossover. Previewed by the concept version shown just two months ago in Detroit, the new 2019 Acura RDX ushers in a new design language for the brand. The new theme stems from the Precision concept showcased (also in Detroit) back in 2016, and is slated to proliferate across the lineup. Acura‘s all-new RDX crossover is coming to this year’s New York International Auto Show. The new model will launch in mid-2018 and is the first in a new generation of Acura products to boast the automaker’s new design language, as well as a Precision Cockpit-inspired interior with the new True Touchpad Interface. Aside from the car itself, Acura will also unveil a brand new spec for the RDX, called A-Spec – the very first application of the sport appearance variant to an Acura SUV. The A-Spec will boast “sport appearance detailing”, according to the Japanese automaker, both inside and out. As for other noteworthy 2019 RDX features, there is the Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system, a new 2.0-liter VTEC Turbo engine, a segment-first 10-speed automatic transmission and the NSX-inspired Integrated Dynamics System – overall, this should be the quickest and best-handling RDX ever. As promised, the 2019 Acura RDX Prototype has premiered at the Detroit Auto Show and as recently-leaked images revealed, it is essentially production-ready in all but name. On a styling front, Acura hasn’t held back in transforming the vehicle’s body. As such, the RDX Prototype adopts the brand’s latest design language and scoffs in the face of the subtle and curvaceous crossovers on the market. It bears resemblances to other models in the Acura family but is much edgier and assured to split opinion. Among the key styling changes are a muscular hood, tapered headlights and LED daytime running lights, roof-mounted spoiler, and a large circular tailpipe. Step inside and you’ll find a large infotainment screen jutting out of the dashboard, digital gauges, and an intriguing gear selector panel. Following a preview earlier this month, Acura has officially unveiled the ARX-05 race car. Set to compete in the 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the ARX-05 is based on the ORECA 07 chassis and features Acura-specific bodywork as well as Jewel Eye headlights. Acura was coy on performance specifications but confirmed the model is powered by a twin-turbo AR35TT engine. It is loosely based on the 3.5-liter V6 that resides in models such as the MDX, TLX, and RLX. Two cars will be fielded by Team Penske and they will compete in a multi-year Daytona Prototype International program administered by Honda Performance Development. The cars will celebrate their racing debut at the Rolex 24 in January and one of the models will be driven by Juan Pablo Montoya and Dane Cameron. Acura has released the first pictures of the TLX-L ahead of a rumored debut at Chengdu Motor Show later this month. Previewed by a concept earlier this year, the production model has a familiar design but adopts a slightly less aggressive front bumper and angular fog lights. Of course, the biggest change is the car's extended wheelbase which helps to create a spacious rear passenger compartment. Little is known about the model at this point but reports suggest the vehicle will come equipped with a panoramic moonroof and company's Precision All-Wheel Steer (PAWS) system. The latter system independently adjusts the rear wheel toe angles for improved maneuverability. That's not much to go on but the company has previously said the car will maintain the "TLX’s high-quality driving performance" while further enhancing passenger comfort. Acura revealed the facelifted 2018 RLX flagship sedan, which now benefits from the brand’s latest design direction and a new suite of technologies. The most obvious change happened at the front end, where the 2018 RLX now features Acura’s signature diamond pentagon grille and a more sculpted hood. Other updates include the new wheel designs, the redesigned LED taillights, new dual exhaust tips and a gloss black rear diffuser. Acura also claims they’ve further optimized the powertrain in the Sport Hybrid model and its Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive technology, based on lessons learned with the NSX. The system continues to produce a combined 377hp out of the combination of a direct-injected V6 with three electric motors. Other hardware changes include the addition of a 10-speed automatic gearbox to the regular RLX, which is powered by a 310hp 3.5-liter V6. Want a new Acura sedan, but find the TLX too small? You could step up to the bigger RLX – or, if you live in China, into the stretched TLX-L. Or at least you could at sometime later this year. Previewed as in near-production concept form at the Shanghai Auto Show this week is the Acura TLX-L prototype. It's clearly based closely on the latest version of Honda's midsize luxury sedan revealed – complete with its more crowd-pleasing grille – at the New York Auto Show last week, but adds more space for the rear passengers by increasing the wheelbase. By how much, and to what effect, we don't know. The Japanese automaker released little in the way of details to accompany just two images.
