OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro unveiled with Hasselblad cameras, 120Hz display, upgraded charging

Image
OnePlus warmed up the crowd a few weeks ago by announcing its three year, $150 million partnership with legendary camera maker Hasselblad. Hasselblad cameras flew on Apollo 11 to the moon, now they come equipped on the latest Snapdragon 888 flagship. The OnePlus 9 Pro introduces Fluid Display 2.0 and Warp Charge 50 Wireless charging. It also has a bespoke Sony IMX789 image sensor in its main camera. The vanilla model has its own upgrades. The headlining feature this generation is the camera that Hasselblad helped develop and the OnePlus 9 Pro has the best version. On its first go-around in the smartphone segment, the Swedish camera maker focused on improving the color science of the two phones. The main camera uses a IMX789 sensor that was co-developed with Sony. It’s a large 1/1.43” sensor with 1.12 µm pixels, 48MP resolution. It features the latest camera technologies, including dual native ISO, Digital Overlap HDR (DOL-HDR) and 2x2 on-chip lens (OCL). And OIS, of course. This sensor...

They are here and let’s get this out of the way first – OnePlus kept its promise that its phones will be under $1,000. Indeed, the full-loaded Pro phone is $999 and the base configuration is $100 below that. The vanilla OnePlus 8 starts at $700. The two new models will be available on OnePlus.com starting on April 29 and will also sell through Amazon in the US as well as the major carriers. OnePlus 8 Pro The OnePlus 8 Pro comes with a new 6.78” Fluid AMOLED display, the largest for the brand yet, and its first to hit 120Hz refresh rate. The screen comes with 240Hz touch sampling rate to minimize input lag. The display is calibrated at the factory achieving a record-setting color accuracy. It’s a 10-bit panel with HDR10+ support. HDR Boost will take old 8-bit content and enhance it. There’s also MEMC, which can interpolate 24fps video to 120fps. That’s a “love it or hate it” feature, but OnePlus also did extensive optimizations to the software to ensure that the interface fl...

OnePlus 7 Pro has a 90Hz screen, three cameras, and costs $669

Image
OnePlus has announced its latest smartphone — actually, it announced two. The first is the familiar-looking OnePlus 7, which will be available later this year in select markets. But the central focus is the all-new OnePlus 7 Pro, which is available this week everywhere OnePlus phones are sold, including on T-Mobile in the US. Both new models bring the latest processor from Qualcomm, multiple camera arrays, large screens, large batteries, stereo speakers, and OnePlus’ proprietary fast-charging systems. But while the OnePlus 7 retains the exact same design as last year’s OnePlus 6T, complete with a 1080p display and “teardrop”-style notch cutout, the 7 Pro debuts a number of firsts for the company. It’s the first truly full-screen OnePlus phone without a notch or other screen cutout for a front camera, it’s the first OnePlus phone with a screen resolution higher than 1080p, and it’s the first OnePlus phone with three cameras on the back (in a wide, standard, and telephoto configurat...

Image
OnePlus and McLaren have officially unveiled the 6T McLaren Edition smartphone during a ‘Salute to Speed’ event at the McLaren Technology Center. The new phone goes on sale in North America and Western Europe this Thursday, December 13, with availability in India, China and the Nordics soon after. In the U.S. it will cost $699, whereas UK buyers will spend £645. Also, it seems yesterday’s leak was incorrect regarding the phone’s full name, as the press release doesn’t mention the term ‘Speed Orange’. Either way, the specs were bang on and here’s what you get if you decide to buy OnePlus’ latest flagship killer: 6.41″ AMOLED display, 16 MP and 20 MP rear cameras, 16 MP front camera, Android 9 Pie OS with OxygenOS custom overlay, Snapdragon 845 chipset, octa-core CPU (4×2.7 GHz Kryo 385 Gold & 4×1.7 GHz Kryo 385 Silver), Adreno 630 GPU, 10 GB of LPDDR4x RAM, 256 GB storage, 3,700 mAh Li-Po (sealed) battery, 30W Warp Charge proprietary fast charging, dual nano-SIM and USB ...
