OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition Is All About Speed, Costs $699

OnePlus and McLaren have officially unveiled the 6T McLaren Edition smartphone during a ‘Salute to Speed’ event at the McLaren Technology Center.

The new phone goes on sale in North America and Western Europe this Thursday, December 13, with availability in India, China and the Nordics soon after. In the U.S. it will cost $699, whereas UK buyers will spend £645.

Also, it seems yesterday’s leak was incorrect regarding the phone’s full name, as the press release doesn’t mention the term ‘Speed Orange’.

Either way, the specs were bang on and here’s what you get if you decide to buy OnePlus’ latest flagship killer: 6.41″ AMOLED display, 16 MP and 20 MP rear cameras, 16 MP front camera, Android 9 Pie OS with OxygenOS custom overlay, Snapdragon 845 chipset, octa-core CPU (4×2.7 GHz Kryo 385 Gold & 4×1.7 GHz Kryo 385 Silver), Adreno 630 GPU, 10 GB of LPDDR4x RAM, 256 GB storage, 3,700 mAh Li-Po (sealed) battery, 30W Warp Charge proprietary fast charging, dual nano-SIM and USB Type-C connectivity.

You also get an under-display fingerprint reader, single speaker bottom design and a tri-position Alert Slider.

The best part about the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition is that unlike other automotive-themed phones such as the Oppo Find X Lamborghini Edition or the Huawei Mate 20 RS Porsche Design, the OnePlus won’t set you back $1,500 or more. In fact, its price tag of $699 is just $70 more than what you’d spend on the regular 6T.

As for looks, this phone features Papaya Orange around the bottom edge, carbon-fiber pattern on the glass back, a McLaren logo and some more Papaya Orange on the cord cable. Once you power it up, you’ll also be able to enjoy exclusive software animations, “tuned to McLaren’s unique style and history.”
