All-New 2020 Chevy Silverado HD Packs 910 lb-ft Of Torque, Due In February

Chevy’s all-new 2020 Silverado HD is set to debut in February of next year, when it will instantly take up the mantle of the “most advanced Silverado HD ever”, according to the automaker.

This will also be the third all-new Silverado variant to make its debut within the past 18 months, and its assembly will take place at GM’s Flint plant in Michigan. Also, compared to its 1500 sibling, the HD model is almost entirely different, as the two trucks have only their roofs in common.

Still, like the Silverado 1500, the HD also gains an additional 3 inches (7.6 cm) of legroom on crew cab models, to go with a taller, more comfortable seating position.

“We know the needs and priorities of heavy-duty customers are different than those of either light-duty or medium-duty customers,” stated Silverado HD chief engineer, Jaclyn McQuaid. “As such, we built a heavy-duty truck tailor-made for them that has more differentiation than ever before from light-duty models, offers advanced towing technologies to improve towing confidence and includes new features such as the integrated Bedstep, which makes it easier to access the bed while pulling a fifth-wheel trailer.”

Come next year, you’ll be able to purchase a 2020 Silverado HD with a choice of two new powertrains. You can either go for the all-new gasoline engine with direct injection (which is mated to a six-speed transmission), or the Duramax turbo-diesel V8 unit, which feeds a monster 910 lb-ft (1,233 Nm) of torque to the wheels through a new Allison 10-speed gearbox.

Other features include a new customer-focused trailering technology, significant increases in towing and payload capabilities and a wide range of technologies designed for heavy duty truck buyers.

“We set out to make a statement with the 2020 Silverado HD and wanted to visually capture the power and capability of the truck,” said Silverado HD lead exterior designer, Brian Izard. “The result is a truck that looks like a piece of heavy machinery with modern, chiseled finishes and customer-focused details.”

The all-new 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD will go on sale in mid-2019.
