2022 Honda Civic Hatchback Combines Practicality With Turbo Power And A Six-Speed Manual

Image
The 2022 Honda Civic lineup is expanding as the company has introduced the new hatchback variant. The model unsurprisingly follows in the footsteps of the redesigned sedan and adopts a more mature, if boring for some, design. Of course, it’s not an exact copy as the hatchback is distinguished by an angular liftgate and a unique rear end with an integrated spoiler. The five-door model also features sleeker taillights, which are connected by a thin strip that follows the contours of the spoiler. The rest of the car largely echoes the sedan and there’s a familiar interior with a modern design. Drivers sit behind a 7- or 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and will find a freestanding 7- or 9-inch infotainment system off to the side.  The latter sports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, and the display resides above stylish honeycomb mesh trim. More importantly, the hatchback is more practical than the sedan as there are 60/40 split folding rear seats that allow fo...

2022 Honda Civic Fully Detailed, Gets Buttoned-Down Design, Promises More Premium Feel

Image
Honda has just unveiled the brand new 11th-generation Civic Sedan. Packed full of fresh tech, like a digital instrument panel, Bose sound system, and revised looks inside and out, the new Civic will look to continue its record as one of the best-selling cars in America over the last 48 years. Honda has tried to simplify the appearance of the Civic inside and out. To do that, it returned to the original design philosophy that made the Civics of the ’70s such a success: Man Maximum/Machine Minimum. The M/M maxim has led to a “thin and light” body design according to Honda. They worked hard to simplify the car, which has few design lines, while also making it look more premium. To do that, they did things like move the bottom of the windshield pillars back two inches. That makes the hood look longer, giving it more classic proportions. Where the team kept design lines, they did so intentionally. The sharp character line that cuts across the Civic’s bodywork connects the front and the back...

2022 Honda HR-V e:HEV Turns Into A Small Crossover Coupe With Hybrid Power

Image
Honda has pulled the wraps off the new HR-V in Europe and Japan, where it is known as the Vezel. The subcompact crossover boasts a more modern look that Honda describes as a “coupe-inspired design” and the latest technology gear inside. It will launch in Europe in late 2021 exclusively with a single hybrid powertrain ditching the outgoing model’s plain diesel and gasoline engines. It’s still unknown when we will get a new HR-V in North America, where Honda has already confirmed that it will be a different model “designed to meet the distinct needs of U.S. customers, and will differ from the Honda Vezel/HR-V that will be introduced in other regions”. However, it might arrive for the 2022 model year. The global-spec model features a much cleaner face than today’s HR-V, with a big grille with horizontal slats that blends in nicely with the bumper and slender headlights on each side, though truth to be told, it could easily be mistaken for something that came out of Mazda’s lineup or even ...

All-New Honda Jazz Is Hybrid-Only In Europe, Launches In Mid-2020

Image
The world premiere of the all-new Honda Fit / Jazz at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show was followed shortly by the European reveal of the 2020 Jazz. Coming exclusively as a hybrid in Europe, the fourth-generation Honda Jazz will offer for the first time a high-riding Crosstar version alongside the regular body style. The 2020 Jazz will also inaugurate Honda’s e:HEV powertrain badging in Europe, part of the e:Technology branding that will be featured on all future electrified products of the Japanese brand. Honda wants all its European mainstream models to feature electrified powertrains by 2022. The all-new Honda Jazz packs a two-motor hybrid powertrain as standard for the first time. No specs were released but Honda claims the new powertrain offers “an exceptional blend of strong and effortless driving performance and impressive fuel economy.” Newly developed for the Jazz, the hybrid system is also said to provide “a smooth, responsive and direct driving feel.” Honda also promise...

Production 2020 Honda e Bows With RWD, 0-100 KM/H In 8 Sec

Image
We already knew that the Honda e Prototype was going to be 99 percent identical to the production car – and now we have official confirmation. The carmaker has released the first images of the e in final mass production form, and the EV looks just like the pre-production concept that previewed it. The Honda e will debut officially at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week. Honda will offer two electric motor options, one delivering 100 kW (136 PS / 134 hp) and the other 113 kW (154 PS / 152 hp) and a peak torque of 315 Nm (232 lb-ft), with the latter being quite brisk, sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in approximately 8 seconds. The battery has a capacity of 35.5 kWh and is described by the automaker as one of the most compact in its class. Despite that, it delivers a range of up to 220 km (137 miles) from a single charge which Honda believes is “perfect for every day urban commuting.” Thanks to fast-charging capability, the battery can be recharged to 80 percent capacity ...

Honda e Prototype Previews RWD Electric City Car For Europe

Image
The wait for Honda’s first electric vehicle for Europe is almost over as the automaker is gearing up to reveal a near-production concept at the Geneva Motor Show. The carmaker has just released the first exterior shots of the study that’s called e Prototype and the good news is it sticks pretty close to the Urban EV Concept from 2017. However, it’s not quite as dramatic looking as said study. Honda says the e Prototype evolves from the Urban EV, and a closer look reveals some key differences. For example, it features rear doors with “hidden” handles and smaller, front-hinged doors at the front. As a result, the overall proportions of the car lean towards a more practical approach rather than a sporty one. Another big change concerns the rear end, where the study’s squared taillights have given way to round units that echo the design of the headlights. While looking all cute and friendly, the Honda e Prototype is tech-savvy at the same time. It features “pop out” door handle...

Honda Teases Geneva Motor Show-Bound EV Prototype

Image
Honda has confirmed a previous report concerning anew electric vehicle prototype that will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The automaker has also released an early design sketch of the pre-production study, and it’s pretty clear we’re dealing with the electric city car previewed by the Urban EV Concept at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. Honda says the new vehicle is developed “with a focus on functionality and purpose and the prototype sketch demonstrates this through its clean, simple and unique design.” The sketch reveals a very similar design to the Urban EV study, with highlights including the round LED headlights, black “grille” that may or may not display messages to other drivers, a black element at the center of the bonnet, and rearview cameras instead of conventional mirrors. As spy photos have shown last year, the production model will switch from a three-door to a five-door layout, with the interior offering five seats instead of the concept’s four. ...

2019 Honda Passport Is Here To Fill The Gap Between The CR-V And Pilot

Image
Consumers can’t seem to get enough crossovers and Honda is happy to oblige as it has resurrected the Passport moniker on an all-new model which will slot in between the CR-V and Pilot. Set to go on sale early next year, the 2019 Passport is larger and more rugged than the CR-V but sportier and more compact than the Pilot. As a result, the model promises to provide a unique blend of “on-road driving refinement and off-road adventure capability.” Sporting a matte black grille that the echoes the Ridgeline, the Passport features a rugged exterior with black plastic body cladding, an increased ride height and standard 20-inch alloy wheels. The model also comes equipped with LED lighting units and a dual exhaust system with chrome tips. Moving into the cabin, drivers will find a Pilot-like interior with a four-spoke steering wheel and a 7-inch display in the instrument cluster. The Passport also features a tri-zone automatic climate control system and a six-speaker audio system ...

Honda Civic Type R Pickup Truck Concept Is No Joke

Image
The new Honda Civic Type R has sparked a lot of controversy with its exaggerated exterior design, so we can only imagine what this pickup truck derivative would do. Created by the brand’s Product Engineering department in the UK and codenamed ‘Project P’, this concept was showcased at the annual SMMT Test Day. It’s based upon a pre-production version of the hot hatch, which had its C-pillars and roof chopped off and replaced by a roll bar. The rear seats and boot have been completely removed, making room for the open bed. As for the interior, this Honda Civic Type R study can sit two. Despite going through a massive makeover, the Project P retains the car’s body kit, alongside the rear wing, and is finished in Rallye Red. The powertrain, transmission and gearbox remain unaltered. Honda estimates that their hot hatch turned hot pickup takes less than 6 seconds to sprint from rest to 100km/h (0-62mph), and can reach a top speed in excess of 265km/h (165mph). Even ...

2019 Honda Insight Debuts In Production Form, Gets 151hp And 55mpg City

Image
Honda has announced that the 2019 Insight will celebrate its global premiere at the New York Auto Show in its final production version. Under its sleek design, the new Insight uses Honda’s third generation two-motor hybrid powertrain, featuring a 1.5-liter petrol engine that runs on the Atkinson cycle combined with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack. The combined output of the new powertrain is 151hp and 197lb-ft of torque, with Honda claiming best-in-class power-to-weight ratio, as well as an estimated 55-mpg in the city. “The Honda Insight shows consumers that the efficiency of a hybrid car doesn’t mean sacrificing style, refinement or performance,” said Henio Arcangeli, Jr., senior vice president of American Honda Motor. “The Insight is another symbol of a new era in the evolution of Honda electrified vehicles, where customers can have everything they want with no compromises.” The driver will be able to choose between three driving modes –Normal, Econ...

Honda Urban EV Will Enter Production In 2019

Image
Honda’s Geneva stars this year might have been the new CR-V and the jacked-up Jazz X-Road, but the real news was about the lovely retro-flavored Urban EV concept. The Japanese company announced that the order books for the production version of the compact electric car will open in early 2019. Honda also said that the production Urban EV model will be introduced in Europe in late 2019. “A production version of this highly acclaimed concept will be introduced to Europe during late 2019, and in response to the positive feedback to this model, we expect to open order banks for the Urban EV during early 2019,” said Philip Ross, Senior Vice President of Honda Motor Europe during Honda’s Geneva motor show press conference. The Honda Urban EV Concept attracted a lot of praises when it was first introduced at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. It didn’t take long before the Japanese carmaker confirmed that they will indeed build it, with Europe being the first region to get it in 2019, fo...

2019 Honda Insight Prototype Detailed, Gets Over 50MPG

Image
The all-new 2019 Honda Insight will feature a highly efficient hybrid powertrain as well as more conventional looks, and this Detroit-bound prototype is here to serve up a preview. We caught our first glimpse of the all-new Insight back in December when we also learned that a prototype version would debut at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. Since then, we've known to expect a new car with fresh styling, premium features and improved performance. Aside from the automaker's signature "flying wing" grille, the front fascia also features low-profile LED headlights, which accentuate the car's overall dynamic character and sloping roofline. "The new 2019 Honda Insight signals we are entering a new era of electrification with a new generation of Honda products that offer customers the benefits of advanced powertrain technology without the traditional trade-offs in design, premium features or packaging," stated Honda exec, Henio Arcangeli Jr. "The Honda...

New Honda Insight Prototype Previews 2019 Model, Debuts In Detroit

Image
The Honda Insight prototype will make its global debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January, previewing a more upscale production model set to arrive next summer. As you can see, the Insight will move on from its "quirky hatchback" roots and become a five-passenger sedan, taking its place above the Civic in the Japanese automaker's passenger car lineup. "With its sophisticated styling, dynamic stance, ample interior space and best-in-class performance, the all-new Insight embodies Honda's approach to creating electrified vehicles without the typical tradeoffs," said Honda exec, Henio Arcangeli Jr. "You won't have to be an electrification advocate to appreciate the new Insight - it's a great car in its own right, independent of what's happening under the hood." Compared to the old Insight, the all-new 2019 model features new styling, new packaging, premium features and improved performance, according to Honda. It wi...
