Techrules Ren RS Emerges As A Micro-Turbine-Powered Track Machine

Image
Last year Techrules captured its fair share of attention with the debut of the Ren supercar. Now it’s returning to the Geneva Motor Show with the track-focused Ren RS, revealed here for the first time. The Techrules Ren RS is based on the same architecture as the existing Ren, with its bodywork designed by Fabrizio and Giorgetto Giugiaro. Only now it’s been redesigned for the track, featuring a single-seat cockpit design. Power comes from an advanced micro-turbine hybrid setup similar to what Jaguar tried with the C-X75 concept, however Techrules thinks it can actually make a go of it. The experimental powertrain mates a pair of electric motors at the front and another four at the rear, with a small diesel turbine engine serving as a range-extender. With a 28.4-kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack, the Chinese startup says the Ren RS will produce as much as 1,287 horsepower (equivalent to 1,305 ps or 960 kW) and 1,725 lb-ft (2,340 Nm) of torque. That’s said to be en...

Techrules Ren Is A Diesel-Electric Turbine Supercar With 1,287HP, 2,000Km Range

Image
Chinese automaker Techrules believes that it has a real shot at the supercar segment with their first production model - the Ren. Displayed in Geneva in a world premiere, the exotic machine is available in three configurations, with two, four, and six electric motors, and a patented diesel-fueled turbine (TREV) charging system. Get ready to be blown away by the official output, as it sits at 1,305 PS (1,287 HP) and 2,340 Nm (1,725 lb-ft) of torque in the range-topper, which uses two electric motors at the front and four at the rear. This configuration allows the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration to be made in just 2.5 seconds; top speed stands at 320 km/h (199 mph). If these numbers scare you, then the supercar can also be had with 870 PS (858 HP) and 1,560 Nm (1,150 lb-ft) of torque in the four-motor version, while the two-motor one comes with more down-to-earth figures of 435 PS (429 HP) and 780 Nm (575 lb-ft) of torque. Coming to provide the necessary juice are three batte...

China's Techrules Turbine Recharging EVs Have A...2,000KM Range

Image
Techrules, a  new China-based automotive  research and development company dedicated to the innovation of new energy technologies, is making its global debut at the 2016  Geneva Motor Show . The company has developed an all-new patent-protected series hybrid  powertrain technology , called the Turbine-Recharging Electric Vehicle (TREV) system, that combines experience of aviation and electric vehicles technologies with several technical innovations in order to deliver “unprecedented levels of efficiency and performance and and ultra-low environmental impact”  – as the company states. Sounds too good to be true? Wait till you hear the specs, then. TREV is basically a range extender system that uses a micro-turbine to generate electricity which in turn charges a battery pack that drive the wheels. The concepts (AT96 TREV and GT96 TREV) presented at the Swiss motor show represent the first step towards production of  China’s first  electric hypercar an...
