2020 Toyota GR Yaris Is A 257HP AWD Rally-Bred Hot Hatch For The Road

Image
Toyota have really outdone themselves with the new GR Yaris, a subcompact hot hatch with state-of-the-art engineering and power levels that broke cover at the 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon. Positioned against the Ford Fiesta ST, Renault Clio RS and Volkswagen Polo GTI in terms of size, the Japanese supermini is way more powerful and adds something its rivals lack: an all-wheel drive system. How was this possible? By combining the front end of the GA-B platform that debuted in the new-gen Yaris with the rear of the GA-C architecture. This allows the implementation of the all-wheel drive system, as well as a new suspension design, with double wishbone set-up, front strut system and rear torsion beam. Stopping power comes from the 356 mm (14 in) ventilated front discs with four-piston calipers and 297 mm (11.7 in) ventilated rear discs with two-pot calipers. Powering the GR Yaris is the 1.6-litre turbocharged three-cylinder that produces 261 PS (257 hp / 192 kW) and 360 Nm (266 lb-ft)...

2020 Toyota Yaris Officially Unveiled, Embraces “Less Is More” Philosophy

Image
Toyota has officially unveiled its all-new Yaris subcompact hatch in both Japanese and European specifications. The fourth-generation Yaris is the first application of the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) in the segment, with the new modular platform being code-named the GA-B. It enables significant improvements for the small hatchback in all areas, including styling, practicality, mechanical, technology and safety, and also helps reduce the car’s weight by up to 50 kg (110 lbs). The all-new Yaris features a much more emotional design than its predecessor, with more dramatic proportions thanks to it being shorter, wider and lower. Bucking the trend of most new cars, the 2020 Yaris loses 5 mm (0.2 in) in length and 40 mm (1.6 in) in height. However, it adds millimeters where it counts, namely the wheelbase (+50 mm / 2 in) and width (+50 mm / 2 in). This results in a roomier interior (the seats are mounted lower so headroom is not affected) and is a prerequisite for impr...

2019 Toyota Yaris Sedan Premieres With Same Mazda2 Footings

Image
Toyota has welcomed the 2019 Yaris sedan to its range, complete with a new name, fresher face, and three new grades. The exterior design of the Yaris sedan, once known as the Scion IA before turning into the Yaris IA, is the first thing that catches the eye. Up front, not much has changed and it still looks like a road-going catfish with an expansive honeycomb grille and a set of headlights absent of even a hint of aggression and simply made to look cute (presumably). Curiously, Toyota has yet to release pictures showing the rear fascia of the new Yaris sedan but we have been provided a look at the overhauled interior. Each and every 2019 Yaris sedan sold will come complete with a 7.0-inch touchscreen multimedia system with voice recognition, remote interface, steering wheel controls, and Bluetooth connectivity. Additionally, the car includes a backup camera, six-speaker sound system, auxiliary audio jack, USB port, and a 3-month complimentary SiriusXM All Access Trial. A...

Toyota Yaris GRMN Boasts 209 HP, 6.3-Sec 0-62 Time

Image
Hot-hatch enthusiasts have been patiently awaiting the arrival of the Toyota Yaris GRMN. The wait will be over soon as production is set to kick off this fall, but before it does, the Japanese automaker has released its key final specifications. While output from the 1.8-liter supercharged inline-four was previously said to exceed 205 hp, it's now been confirmed at 209 – 212 on the metric scale, or 156 kW. That's coupled to 184 lb-ft of torque, all channeled to the front wheels through a six-speed manual and limited-slip differential. The 0-62 time, as a result, is estimated at 6.3 seconds, with the top speed restricted to 143 miles per hour. That's thanks in no small part to the spritely curb weight of 2,502 lbs, giving the Yaris GRMN “the best power-to-weight ratio in its class,” according to the manufacturer. The figures also promise to put it out ahead of key competition like the Ford Fiesta ST and VW Polo GTI. And while the top Renault Clio RS 220 Trophy b...

2018 Toyota Sienna Features New Face, Interior Updates

Image
While Honda, Chrysler, and Kia have new generations of their minivans on the market, Toyota is sticking by the existing Sienna but keeping things fresh with mild revisions for it at the New York Auto Show. At the other end of the size spectrum, company also has updates for the little Yaris so that customers wanting a small vehicle can still have a big list of available equipment. The updated front end is by far the most obvious part of this refresh. Toyota’s fits a new fascia and grille that takes minor cues from recent models like the Mirai. The look might be rather polarizing among buyers, though. The massive mouth near the road doesn’t fit with the rest of the minivan’s conservative design, and the new parts make the model like a giant handheld vacuum going down the road.  Minivans are more about utility than styling, and Toyota makes an effort to make the 2018 Sienna more comfortable for occupants. Starting from the mid-grade SE trim, a new laminated windshield red...

New Toyota Yaris GRMN Supercharged With 205HP Gets In On The Hot-Hatch Action

Image
Toyota has been promising for some time to release a hot hatch, and that's just what it's done at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show with the introduction of the new Yaris GRMN. Tuned by the Japanese automaker's performance division (Gazoo Racing, Masters of the Nürburgring), the hot new Yaris is envisioned as the road-going counterpart to the rally machine Toyota fields in the WRC. Motivation comes, as promised, from a forced-induction 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. But where most of its rivals are turbocharged, the Yaris GRMN goes with a supercharger. 205 horsepower gallop as a result to the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. No fancypants DSGs or trick all-wheel drive systems here. True to the division's name, the new hot hatch was honed on the Nürburgring Nordshleife. The suspension pairs short springs with Sachs shocks and a beefy anti-roll bar. It's packed with additional bracing – including a structural bar under the hood between the fron...

Toyota Yaris GRMN To Get 1.8-Liter Supercharged Engine

Image
Toyota has confirmed that its performance-oriented variant of the Yaris hatchback will receive a 1.8-liter supercharged four-cylinder. Prior to the model’s Geneva Motor Show debut, the Japanese marque has also confirmed that it will be dubbed the Yaris GRMN, which curiously stands for ‘Gazoo Racing Masters of the Nurburgring’. Looking beyond the strange name, the engine is expected to be the real selling-point of the souped-up Yaris. Toyota’s official word is that it will produce over 205 hp meaning it should prove the perfect rival to the all-new Ford Fiesta ST, also bowing in Geneva. From a visual standpoint, the Yaris GRMN will stand out with its aggressive bodykit, large roof-mounted rear wing and motorsports-inspired livery. Carscoops

Based around the existing third-generation Yaris, the 2017 model is adorned with 900 brand new parts aimed at improving its design, dynamic performance and safety.  Visually, the front and rear aprons have been designed to give the model a sportier and more dynamic outward appearance. This has been achieved through new headlights, a trapezoidal grille, new headlights, a revised tailgate, rear bumper and distinctive LED taillights. Two new colors have also been added to the European Yaris range, Hydro Blue and Tokyo Red. The cabin of the  2017 Yaris  also benefits from a selection of improvements including a new 4.2-inch color infotainment screen, a three-spoke steering wheel, piano black trim inserts, propeller-style air vents and blue instrument illumination. Toyota Previews 210-HP Yaris Hot Hatch Bound For Geneva

Image
Toyota has been promising for some time to unleash a hot-hatch version of the Yaris. And the time will finally come at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show just a couple of months from now. Pictured here for the first time is the  forthcoming Yaris hot hatch , accompanied by one salient detail: it'll pack over 210 horsepower, putting it in prime position to dice it with the likes of the  Renaultsport Clio 200  and the 189-hp  Volkswagen Polo GTI . Unlike those five-door models, though, the hot Yaris will pack three doors, and naturally feature other visual and performance upgrades. As you can see, those will include upgraded rolling stock, enhanced aero, and some splashy graphics reminiscent of the Japanese automaker's racing livery. The hot hatch will appear on Toyota's stage at the Swiss auto expo alongside the new  WRC-spec rally car  that's set to debut at the Monte Carlo Rally next week. While Toyota's European division was releasing these preliminary photos ...

Toyota Teases Hot Gazoo Version Of The Yaris Inspired From WRC

Image
Toyota announced their return in the hot hatch segment with a high-performance version of the Yaris that will take inspiration by the WRC version.  The company released a teaser sketch of the  upcoming hot Yaris  which will use “experience gained from its full-blooded return to the World Rally Championship”, according to the official press release.  We don’t really have any other official information but the above statement should mean that the high-performance version of the Yaris will come with a turbocharged petrol engine to make the necessary connection  with the new rally car .  The teaser sketch shows us the profile of the new Japanese hot hatch, revealing an aggressive body kit on the familiar three-door bodystyle. The range-topping Yaris will likely adopt the Gazoo nameplate, with Toyota known to want to launch a new sub-brand for their future high-performance models  with the name of their motorsport arm Gazoo Racing on them .
