New 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE Revealed

Image
The latest generation the Camaro ZL1 was the top dog of the range on the track, but apparently, Chevy had other plans up its sleeves. Making its debut today at the Daytona International Speedway is the 2018 Camaro ZL1 1LE, an even more hardcore version of what was already labeled by many as a track monster. We had actually caught the Camaro ZL1 1LE back in October of 2016 while testing, but at the time, we had wrongly assumed it was a mule for the next Z/28. Chevy uses the 1LE packages on the standard V6 and V8 Camaros to improve their handling, and it promises to do the same with the ZL1 adding special aero technologies, an adjustable racing suspension, exclusive tires while also reducing weight. “The track-focused 1LE package offers progressive levels of performance across the Camaro lineup, from the V6 1LE to the SS 1LE,” said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. “But with the new ZL1 1LE, the progression takes a quantum leap — this is the ultimate track-day Camaro.” Ac...

2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1 Hits 60 In 3.5 Seconds, Priced From $62,135

If you've been waiting with baited breath for more stats on the latest high-performance versions of the 2017 Chevy Camaro, your wait is now over. Chevrolet has released some key figures for both the Camaro ZL1 and the 1LE package, and from the stats, both look poised to deliver the goods. The top-of-the-line 2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1 will rocket to 60 in 3.5 seconds, come back to a half in 107 feet, blast through the quarter-mile in 11.4 seconds, and round the skidpad at 1.02 g (Coupe version with the available ten-speed automatic transmission). This with the  650-horsepower output  confirmed, even higher than the 640 horses  initially announced . Of course the 220 pounds of dead weight Chevy managed to trim certainly plays its part as well. All that performance capability doesn't come cheap, mind you: the ZL1 coupe carries an MSRP of $62,135, while the convertible commands a more princely $69,135.  That's a heck of a premium over the base Camaro, which starts at just...

2017 Camaro ZL1 power figures revised, more power than ever before

Image
When Chevy introduced the all-new 2017 Camaro ZL1 earlier this year, it rated the supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V8 at an estimated 640 horsepower (477 kilowatts) and 640 pound-feet (867 newton-meters) of torque. Now, the final numbers are in thanks to a leaked order guide for the 2017 Camaro showing the engine inside the range-topping ZL1 is going to deliver 650 hp (485 kW) and 650 lb-ft (880 Nm). The good people from Camaro6  were able to obtain the lengthy document which has no less than 100 pages and contains all the info you will ever need about the entire 2017MY Camaro lineup. The power figures for the Camaro ZL1 match those of the Corvette Z06 which as you may have heard has some heat issues that Chevy has made the pledge to fix for the 2017 model year. That means people shouldn’t worry too much about the ZL1 since we imagine it will get the engine cooling improvements from day one. The 2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1 is slated to go on sale later this year and you...

Chevy says its 10-speed auto shifts quicker than Porsche's PDK

Image
When the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 goes on sale later this year, it’ll be the first General Motors product to use a brand-new, 10-speed automatic transmission. Chevy’s been testing this 10-speed for a while now, and the engineers have revealed an interesting bit of information: it’s quicker to shift than Porsche’s infamous PDK gearbox. That’s an important benchmark; PDK is widely heralded as the one of the best dual-clutch gearboxes you can buy in a sports car today. It delivers smooth, lightning-fast shifts, and Porsche models equipped with PDK are routinely quicker to accelerate than their manual-transmission counterparts. But Chevy says it’s got something really special on its hands with the new 10-speed automatic. Comparing the two transmissions, GM says its ZL1 testing shows “the 1-2 upshift is 36-percent quicker than the PDK, while the 2-3 and 3-4 upshifts are 27-percent and 26-percent quicker, respectively.” The 10-speed transmission has a wide...

Chevrolet Blows The Top On 2017 Camaro ZL1 Convertible

Image
Chevrolet pulled a nice one with the official launch of the  Camaro ZL1  Convertible at the  New York Auto Show .  Offering " comparable performance to the coupe model ", as the manufacturer states, it uses the Corvette Z06-sourced 6.2-liter LT4 supercharged V8 that's rated at 640 HP (649 PS) and 640 pound-feet (868 Nm) of torque. Customers can choose between the six-speed manual or the new 10-speed automatic that made its debut at the the  Coupe  and will be introduced in eight GM models by the end 2018. The ZL1 has been designed with the Convertible in mind from the beginning, so the chassis of the  drop-top muscle car  has " only a few minor structural differences " to that of the Coupe. The Bow Tie proudly claims that, unlike rivals, the ZL1 has no need for additional packs to make it suitable for the track as it comes with every feature that's needed for top performance. These include the Performance Traction Management, updated Magne...

2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Brings The Thunder With 640HP And Available 10-Speed Auto

Image
Proving that the horsepower wars are far from over, Chevrolet unveiled the new  2017 Camaro ZL1 sporting the Corvette Z06’s  supercharged V8 pushing out an estimated 640hp (477 kW) and 640 lb-ft of torque (868 Nm). That’s 10hp and 10 lb-ft short of the same 6.2-liter supercharged LT4 V8 found in the Corvette Z06, but a 60hp and 84 lb-ft leap over the  previous Camaro ZL1’s 580hp  6.2-liter supercharged LSA powerplant. Not only that, but the new ZL1 underwent a rigorous diet and lost 200 pounds (91 kg) over its predecessor.  While GM hasn’t shared any performance numbers yet, it’s not hard to imagine that the new top dog  in the Camaro’s lineup  will be faster than the old ZL1 that hit 60mph (96km/h) in 4.0 seconds for the manual and 3.9 seconds for the automatic version with respective top speeds of 180mph (290 km/h) and 184mph (296 km/h).  Speaking of transmissions, a six-speed manual with active rev-matching capability remains the standard op...
